  • Check out our three, brand new Accoya USA videos below.
They've been specifically created by SGC for their building science programme to inform and educate building professionals about Accoya wood's attributes and differentiating factors.
Video 1: In this first episode the Building Science Team travel to the Netherlands, to take a look at the complex science behind Accoya wood's seemingly simple product. The team delve into how Acetylation catapults Accoya above the competition.

What about the problems with the acetic acid in the wood reacting with irongmongery and brass fittings?

it is recommended to use stainless steel hardware for the accoya wood, acetic acid remains in the wood will rust metal. It might be better to use Accoya for exteriors because of its incredible performance, so...stainless steel makes more sense than the metal

@@baohuyinh259 Right. We are installing a new porch made with acetylated wood. A protective layer between the treated lumber support beams and the Accoya, and all fasteners are stainless steel.

Same for Oaks..esp green oak unseasoned oak and other high tannic acid containing species. So nothing extraordinary about that 😊 how does it react to salt water exposure ..assuming its been epoxy paint or bio epoxi resin sealed?

So I just picked up a piece of 5x2 Accoya I had in my outside storage and half of it was not under the sheet metal roofing, it rained for 3 days on and off, the exposed part is measuring 25% MC whilst the covered part (of the same piece of wood) is 0-5% when measured in the centre (cut through the middle on the table saw.
I've actually never ever had any wood get physically soaked right to the very core like this has.
So far this is the worst performing wood I've ever used in trend of NOT taking on water

What kinds of wood can this process be done to?

    • @t0dd000
      @t0dd000 Год назад

Any. But this is a game-changer because it gives cheaper woods properties similar to hardwoods. Better than hardwoods.

all sources of ignition. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Avoid
contact with skin, eyes and inhalation of vapors.
Environmental Precautions Should not be released into the environment. See Section 12 for additional Ecological
    Information.
    Methods for Containment and Clean
    Up
Remove all sources of ignition. Do not expose spill to water. Soak up with inert absorbent
material. Keep in suitable, closed containers for disposal. Use spark-proof tools and
    explosion-proof equipment.
The Acetic Anhydride is some dangerous stuff to mess with. Static electricity can cause it to explode. All these harmful chemicals companies are using. We need to be using less, not more. That was from the MSDS.

Misha, you are 100% correct to question "why". I have spent years retraining myself to be inclusive in how I address hypothetical people, and for at least 25 years regularly say, "he or she", but now find myself in error again by not saying "they/them" as often as I should. My difficulty is that I have spent a lifetime associating "they" and "them" with plural, so it is harder to get used to. My kids, on the other hand, have no problem using "they" and "them" with ease. A person's understanding of gender and all of the associated historical inequities correlates with their own personal identity, and who they interact with on a daily basis. I am working on doing better because we all benefit when we are inclusive. Besides, you are right; there are plenty of women in the industry!!!
