@@tyrannicproductions I think they meant moreso where in that segment of the video, they mention how the nailgun is a great primary for midrange which "was never seen before" but yeah, the shortstop is used for midrange so aside from the rapid fire, the midrange element was seen on the shortstop before
@whereisthatbustlingmarketp4227 Yeah that is true, but I mean.. if you play TF2 classic, it is increasingly clear that the nailgun seems superior due to just how quickly it can mow down someone in a matter of a couple seconds with very little need for aim other than basic tracking, while the shortstop requires precise aim to kill as quickly. Needs more Demoknight ... wait, hear me out. Unless you're against a fairly experienced demo, Demoknight isn't hard to deal with as Heavy, Pyro, Soldier, Scout, and experienced Spies can either out tank or out range Demoknight but makes getting better at Demoknight that much more fun.

Honestly, you're kinda right on that Demoknight part. I love playing it, and while I love what TF2C provides, the lack of and constant insult towards Demoknight felt like a sour taste on an otherwise sweet idea
On the detonator: 1. you do not need a surface to jump off of, simply hold right click and THEN press left click, this also sends you farther. 2. Dealing damage with the detonator is actually quite useful, I've been in many scraps that were made far easier by utilizing the detonator's manual burst to snag enemies around corners before they can completely escape. The burst is hard to get used to but can be deadly effective when utilized properly. Plus having a flare gun of any kind, even one that isn't as heavy hitting, is still better than nothing. Mostly I agree that the boomstick is a much more effective tool, I just wanted to let you know about the detonator's true potential. Have a great day! (also is it just me or are the audio cuts really choppy? I dunno what's going on with that)
I'd argue the twin barrels is too overpowered. Sure it fires once, but the fact its reload is passive, and it being able to deal a max of -120 dmg, is a bit overtuned for a mobility tool. There's also no downside or trade off to jumping unlike the detonator. Not saying pyro has to take self-damage to have burst mobility, but giving a medium hp class a large spike in movement shouldn't be that free.
@@bronzetrophy2171 I mean it has basically no ranged damage. Yes it can do 120 dmg, tu you're going to have to have the gun at point blank because of the horizontal spread.
As a TF2C regular, I'm glad to see more people having fun with it. This is my go-to version of TF2 now and I never looked back to regular TF2 ever since the download links for it came back. There was also a April Fools event led by the devs and it was a blast to play.
I was shortly contemplating if we actually did deserve it, but then I remembered how TF2’s community is eons better than most of the others I’ve been in, MSM included
@@l.psimer6124 msm community most likely (look at their pfp). It’s mostly full of whiny kids who complain that their monthly update was a week late pre something every 5 seconds, but it’s a pretty decent game besides that

One of my favorite things about tf2c is demoman's grenade launcher First off, it now has 4 tubes instead of 6. (Very old versions of tf2 had 6 rounds in his grenade launcher, before that was nerfed... but the model was never updated). Second is that the barrels ROTATE! Like a revolver. Like they should of. It's full of those minor graphical details that honestly makes it so appealing.
As someone who has been playing TF2C since 2020, I want to say that I am grateful for this video existing, as it gives TF2 Classic the love it trully deserves. There have been many videos in the past covering this project, but none come close to this level of dedication. There have been a lot of misconceptions regarding the mod over the years, but hopefully this will help people understand why me and many others enjoy this game so much.
You don't need a surface to detonator jump. You can detonator jump from nothing. The secret is to hold right click while you do a quick spin+ jump+shoot+crouch combo and you can get the maximum amount of height and distance from that.
Not rly a fan of vip gamemode , but by God, did they do a phenomeal job at the model of VIP and the voice, the voice actor is AMAZING, its like he was always a Tf2 voice actor and was always one of the main voice actors, its a shame we cant see more of it
31:31 really? Of all the stuff you want to call annoying you're gonna pick Demoknight? The objectively terrible playstyle which completely nerfs the most powerful class into the groud in exchange for funny sword moments? There's a lot of options for actually annoying/OP shit: deadringer/kunai, vaccinator pocket medics, the bazaar bargain, the scorch shot/phlog, the blackbox/conch, the diamondback. The most annoying thing about demoknight is when your teammate is playing him, because 99.99% of the time they're gonna suck ass and accomplish nothing for your team.
You think the blackbox/conch combo is annoying/OP? It's a crutch combo that makes soldier weaker due to having less rockets. I say this as someone who regularly uses the Blackbox, the Conch is not the best combo, and I genuinely do better with a shotgun I can switch to after the 3rd rocket to finish you off than needing to reload. I agree about Demoknight though. It's weird thing to be so against. Demoknights are usually pretty bad, and easy to take out. A good Demoman with sticky or pipes is way harder to deal with.
@@LeafMaltieze No you're totally right that's it's not OP, not at all. I play a lot of Soldier too and I agree with you that there are better options. But I will stand by it being annoying if the right player is abusing it to its full potential. Especially if my team is just getting pub-stomped.
One time I got into a server that was also social. There was a dude who seemed to be on weed and talked about Wisconsin, and also about America. I hope I run into them again.
I've honestly been surprised by actually feeling the urge to speak up in a tf2 lobby for the first time in years. If you don't sound like a guy, there's a hefty chance you might just get harassed for using the microphone until you leave or get vote kicked. I want to hope TF2C won't go down the same drain pipe.

@@Blaze-nm1uhhe also has a fixation on some low skill weapons like that Pyro shotgun, that sniper melee, the brick, not to mention his liking of movement stuning weapons like the tranq but that one isn't too bad.
The Source 2 Port was just TF2 in Source 2, so Valve had that shut down since it barely changed anything. With TF2C, they're less likely to shut it down because the game is different from normal TF2
The Demoknight hate is completely unwarranted lmfao Also, the Anti Aircraft cannon fires projectiles. Really fast projectiles, but you can tell they're projectiles because the explosions trail behind your crosshair when you turn while firing.
No, it's really hitscan. Devs played around giving it a actual projectile but it didn't feel right. It's a hitscan weapon that triggers a slightly delayed explosion to simulate a projectile.

30:31 Yea i gotta be completely honest, while i do understand a lot of the talking points behind this and the facts present, the dismissal of base tf2, like the multiple times you very clearly stated your distaste for demoknight in a less then respectful manor, really just makes hard to want to try this out. This does, by an objective outside looking in perspective, look cool! But the way you treated things in the video makes me as a player not want to try it. You tried to be impartial around 4 teams but it came off mostly negative and not in a reviewer sense, but in the “complaining gamer” way if that means anything. The way you dissed another youtuber (one who i dont know the brick reference to) felt like a rude joke i wasnt in on and just wasnt that good of an idea to include. And again Demoknight, when you berate something beloved by many different people in a community without giving reasons why besides “demoknight is a mistake” just makes me not want to value your opinion as much. You’re dismissing something out of hand, without evidence, so why should i care about *your* opinion? Yes its good to be opinionated in a piece where you are reviewing something you have passion for, but there is being passionate and being hyper-critical. In this it really did seem like you let your emotions and bias for how negative you currently are for modern tf2 guide your creation in this video. As a viewer, i dont see WHY i should be intrested in TF2C. Your talking points were good, but you bogged them down with negativity or incorrect information like with the Detonator or with the definition of Sync Jumping. What im trying to say is I think you can make some amazing content, and at the end of the day these are criticisms from an internet rabbit. Take the thoughts however you want, or dont take them at all, im just excited to see you make content regardless
I appreciate the thought out comment! When you click on somebody's video, you are choosing to listen to what they have to say and you are actively making the choice to hear out my opinion aka I did not force you to watch my video lol? As for 4 teams, I don't see why I should say I like something when I don't? I am very passionate about the subject at hand and I sang the game's praises where it's due and pointed out things I really didn't like. At no point was my video supposed to be some neutral boring infodump as all of it is my opinion, I thought I communicated that well enough, but I'll make it more obvious next time. As for "bogging down" my points with "negativity", I am not a salesman, I LOVE TF2C, I love talking about it and I wanted to start a discussion on it with my video, I thought I praised the game plenty and I feel that many in the comments are blowing my "negativity" out of proportion. Again though, thank you for the lengthy comment, I'm always happy to read critiques and I strive to improve! Thanks for the kind words and take care.
Starting from the beginning, absolutely! I did want to hear about tf2c, and wanted to hear what you had to say. Even if i didnt agree with the points its better to stay till the end and think things through before making judgement and or criticism. Like i said, rabbit on the internet, my thoughts mean nothing unless you want them to mean something to you. Im about to be super contrarian to my own point but yea the comments about negativity are a bit blown out of proportion. But i do think there is something to be said if a majority of people are telling you that the negativity in your creative project is a bit much. I will also say tho, being passionate about your project or just a game you like (ie tf2c) is something i dont mean to downplay. I think this is really cool! Maybe the hook of the video just didnt land for *me* personally. Im honestly more of the type that likes those “this is exactly what this does, how you can use it, the pros and cons, and what can be improved” information formats. How you and i take in info isnt the same, but that doesnt mean that both arent valid. That being said, you did a really good job on this vid! I do think you make some pretty entertaining points in it, and Im sure that youve gotten a few people or more to look getting into tf2c at least a little bit more closely and maybe considering playing themselves
I didn't even know of this project until I watched this and I went and tried it and I haven't had this much fun in years actually and I thank you for this. The amount of regulars and people who use voice chat and people laughing and having a good time. The game runs so good and the updated visuals and consistent art style like having no stupid weapon skins or unusuals or little off tf2 style cosmetics and weapons or just annoying weapons is really magical. Had my first time playing as the civilian on VIP badwater yesterday, while badwater is maybe my least favorite popular map, that was so much fun too.
Tf2c is definitely a refreshing experience but I heavily disagree that it's the "best version of tf2" not by a long shot. I do agree that demoknight is absurdly overrated, but the gunboats on demo don't exactly work I have no idea why they gave Pyro a super shotgun, but its way cooler than any of his flare guns. Im just happy they didn't add the loose cannon
I love the loose cannon but even I can agree that the effort that goes into learning it just isn't worth it like 80% of the time. And the knockback us super annoying to fight because any idiot can pick it up and use it like a mini scorch shot.
ad sponsor chapter mark? genuinely informational video? actually entertaining information and commentary? interesting takes? yeah, I think I'm subbing.
0:06 Yes I agree with You. Diavolo is the best protagonist in all of Harry Potter's parts. The way he defeated Palpatine was crazy, like really. I know that he would have probably died if he didn't receive help from The Rock but still. Crazy female character!
as someone who started playing TF2 in 2011, i can tell you that it hit my 13 y/o gugu gaga brain hard, i still remember cranking over 200 h of playtime in just 2 weeks, it was best sh*t ever. It was simple, it had only one i belive place for a hat, and not whole 3 slots for drip. It was fun, under all these updates its still the same game, but i think it was actually community and times that were so diffrent that made this game such a gem.
The VIP mode was introduced in Quakeworld Teamfortress already in 1997. We played it a lot, especially "Canalzone President" which later became Badwater and "Protect the President" where you guided the poor VIP through a narrow valley. There was also "The Civilian" which was a slightly different class as the civilian at least got an Axe but less HP. We played a lot "Cross the border" and "Civsaw" where one Heavy fought up to 30 Civilians. Also 8-Team was a game mode available in QWTF too in 1997. But honestly, I only ever saw ONE Eight-Team-Map. Four Team though were common. The Team holding the hill got insane boost so all other had to work together to remove the team. The one Eight-Team-Map though was pretty wacky: The objective was NOT to capture something but to fullfill objectives like "kill 100 ducks" or "Avoid getting killed by the red team" or "kill all blues but no one else". It was INSANE. Sometimes you had three teams going after one but the one team had "perma-quad", then all eight teams ignored each other and hunted ducks and so on...
Cool that so many people get to enjoy this version of the game. Even though I personnally don't enjoy TF2C, it's good to know that community projects like this one exist and thrive.
As someone who was around for 2008, I'm jaded on the "magic" of the old days. Your rose-tinted glasses for a time you didn't experience is clouding your judgement. "something we haven't seen on scout... trading close range effectiveness for mid range effectiveness ... good vs buildings" The Shortstop: does the same but requires actual aim instead of holding M1 at enemies for more a more satisfying weapon to fight and use. "You need to be near surfaces to jump" My brother in Christ have you used the thing? That you can hold M2 to detonate while shooting makes the Detonator unique among all blast jumping weapons in that you DON'T need a surface. And just in general, while the Twin-Barrel fits in TF2C for it's stripped back nature, having a close range finisher in the form of the Axtinguisher makes the burst damage of your secondary less of a necessity. Which is why the Detonator provides something else for the pyro in long range harassment which is oddly glossed over here. "Gunboats on demo just works" It really doesn't. For the class that has the easiest form of blast jumping, giving him that much extra self-damage resistance to jumps makes it braindead easy to clear distances and harass the enemy backline. Like it's annoying enough when stickyjumper demos have grenades to camp the enemy spawn with, it's another thing entirely when they have functional stickybombs. "It's a great evolution of the KGB" It's really not. The passive downside for just equipping it before you get any use of it isn't worth the benefit since it doesn't aid heavy in getting those melee hits in the first place. It simply relies on your enemies being unaware enough to get into your melee range without noticing. Also please learn to edit and stop your voice clips cutting out at the end.
I disagree with you on pretty much everything here but I respect your opinions, thank you for writing a thought out comment these are always a joy to read. As for the mic cuts, yeah, that's genuinely on me I tried a new way of recording and it did not end well, won't happen in the future. Again, thank you for writing and I hope I can explain my points better in the future :)
11:59 "It's almost baffling this hasn't become an official valve product". Both TF2C and the Open Fortress devs were contacted by valve who expressed an interest in collaborating with them. Both games had their downloads taken away during this time. After months of radio silence from valve both games had there downloads put back up.
What I love most about the dynamite pack is how much depth there is. Like, at first you just see it as a sticky-trap in a can. Then you realize if you hit someone with the actual projectile they take knockback. Then you realize that while pyro can airblast it, he can't reflect it like the pipes -- that first boom at least is still going off. He can put out the mini bombs but not the main one. Then you realize that engineer does have counterplay, but it's seriously high-risk, high-reward. Defusing the bomb is amazing, but if he messes it up he's going down along with his buildings, and even if he does get it, making the attempt means he's focusing on that (and even looking down), not paying attention to the pipes you choose to follow it up with. And then, once you think you have it all figured out, you press G for the first time.
It depends on who you think of as the community. Redditors have atrocious takes, but some RUclipsrs and certain Discord servers actually have brains. This mod's balance falls closer to the bad end. Pretty much all of those weapons go against a fundamental aspect of class design. Soldier shouldn't have arcing explosives, that's demoman's job. Heavy shouldn't have single-shot high-damage long-range attacks, that's sniper's job. Engineers are for holding a line, not putting classes that are supposed to have low mobility onto unfair perches (even if it can be done with a teleporter, that would take much more time, usually require wrangler and self-damage, and reduce his usual efficacy as a defender or mobiliser). I'm sure it all works out in its own little ecosystem but it would never work if applied to TF2 at large.
i started playing some time ago, this mod really feels like a fresh tf2 update, my only complain is that servers support a too small player count, i think bigger servers would make matches more chaotic and lower the need for competitiveness, would also help with 4 team maps
A little surprised that the quality of the video is so high yet there are so many lines of audio cutting out too early/late. not sure if there was an issue with recording but it's a pretty noticeable flaw to an otherwise great video
I think it's worth mentioning that the Sandvich also got reworked, it's now a sort of a fusion between the modern Sandvich and the current one. It doesn't refill your health completely but you can use it whenever you want, only needing to recharge if you throw it.
with all of the items that returned from base tf2, I’m surprised the bonk wasn’t one of them. It’s not all that broken, is quite unique and with a few tweaks I’m sure it could find it’s place among the tf2c armaments
This version of the game is my cup of tea! It's a sweet middle ground of tfc and tf2 and I love it! I miss the deathmatch tho, i know open fortress exists but still.
This version of the game is also more nostalgic to me, while i only really started playing tf2 in 2020. (Cause before i didn't have a good PC) I have been exposed to it for nearly my entire life thanks to SFM and GMod animations, and the version of the game i was exposed to was like this, no hats, only a few weapons, very arcade and arena like gameplay, it was the version of the game that was "promised" to me (Or i guess advertised is a better term here). Modern TF2 is still good, but it will never be like the 2008 version, So TF2 classic makes me glad that I'm able to experience a similar version to something like that!
i dont play tf2 classic because the balance is centered around the avarage player. and they also did shish like giving heavy a medium range rocket launcher or straight up give some weapons upsides that dont exist in vanila for a reason. like as if they dont know the tf2 balancing concepts that are not surface stuff. ignoring that stuff, it was rly fun to play when i did some time ago and also feels nice
There's alternative playstyles, and there's blurring the lines between the classes. All the more power to you if it works for you and it's what you enjoy but, as much as Valve has forgotten about TF2 now, there was a reason why back in the day they didn't give heavy long-range explosives, why scout was made a shotgunner not a machinegunner, why soldier didn't get any projectiles with gravity or why pyro has to pay some sort of price for mobility rather than getting a scout primary as his secondary basically for free.
Just for sake of correctness, TF2C didn't get taken down by valve quickly after release in 2015. Valve actually said they were ok with tf2c as long as there was no monetary gain. Really nice video though, loved it!
Funny thing about the more detailed weapons, that's just... what the weapons were like before they got butchered in later updates at the altar of performance. It's TF2 _classic_ after all.
True. On the weekends aus servers get infested with bots sometimes, casual is literally unplayable then. You have to wait like 15 mins to get into uncletopia servers whenever it happens Thankfully I think the most recent minor update broke some of the bots at least for aus, so casual is fine for now
Honestly Uncletopia does have a large chunk of players but at the end of the day it's just alt casual, with a monkey paw trade of no bots for sweaty miserable players. Custom content like what Skial, Blackwonder, Flux, etc host is much more conducive to TF2 being TF2 because despite the unofficial maps and mods it's still better for chilling, relaxing and enjoying the game rather than trying to win at all costs. Also Uncletopia doesn't know how to play anything other than payload.
No disrespect indii, but this isn't it. I can understand that a lot of users in tf2 are bitter and restless for new content from Valve, but this video comes off like you're mocking those who play tf2 regardless of the game's shortcomings. Your constant negativity towards tf2 versus tf2c seems disingenuous given how you don't talk about how overpowered some of the sidegrades in tf2c are, and how they're "better" than the other options in tf2. The heavy's weapons are blatantly overpowered, and the pyro's twin barrel deals way too much damage for a mobility tool. -120 burst dmg is questionably high.
@gamerbeginner5019 I've been playing tf2c since the Fight or Flight update. As someone that's been playing the mod for awhile, this video is less of a commentary, and more of an advertisement. A dishonest advertisement at that.

On the detonator:
1. you do not need a surface to jump off of, simply hold right click and THEN press left click, this also sends you farther.

Smh my head moment for real. Man's really never heard of holding right click lol
A lot of people really don’t know how detonator jumping works
well, techniclly, it works better in a surface.
i mean yeah it can give you a boost on the air but you cannot double jump like how the scout does
@@capy684 It's not appreciably better off of a surface. Just make sure your jump+crouch+ fire timing is right.
@@chimpanzee243 why are you saying "Shake my head my head?"
One of my favorite things about tf2c is demoman's grenade launcher
First off, it now has 4 tubes instead of 6.
That literally hard bro
@gamerbeginner5019 you can do it I believe in you :)

It's even more of a shame that we can't get voice clips of the other classes talking back to him. I feel like Scout would have some choice words.
Those who besmirch the good name of Demoknight shall not see the pearly gates.
@@jjurss7263 Complaining about Demoknight in a game where Sniper exists, is borderline psychopatic.
I played tf2c last night and forgot just how good it was, hell I even got into a extremely social server, something I never get from tf2 somehow
@@N0tsaved I don't think thats a tf2 issue. I think thats a general society issue overall. been playing TF2Classic since 2014 and patiently awaited its 2020 re-release and i gotta say it truly feels like i've went back in time to when i first started playing TF2. the mod is astounding and i recommend it to anyone either looking for something new, wanting to relive the old days, and even people who've never played TF2 before. it's more worthwhile to play than live TF2 these days.

THATS NO CIVILIAN THATS JULES ARCHIBALD
As someone who was around for 2008, I'm jaded on the "magic" of the old days. Your rose-tinted glasses for a time you didn't experience is clouding your judgement.
"something we haven't seen on scout... trading close range effectiveness for mid range effectiveness ... good vs buildings"
The Shortstop: does the same but requires actual aim instead of holding M1 at enemies for more a more satisfying weapon to fight and use.
"You need to be near surfaces to jump"
My brother in Christ have you used the thing? That you can hold M2 to detonate while shooting makes the Detonator unique among all blast jumping weapons in that you DON'T need a surface. And just in general, while the Twin-Barrel fits in TF2C for it's stripped back nature, having a close range finisher in the form of the Axtinguisher makes the burst damage of your secondary less of a necessity. Which is why the Detonator provides something else for the pyro in long range harassment which is oddly glossed over here.
"Gunboats on demo just works"
It really doesn't.
"It's a great evolution of the KGB"
It's really not.

TF2 Classic and all other TF2 spinoffs are why we shouldn't listen to what the community wants the games balancing to be.
I'm sure it all works out in its own little ecosystem but it would never work if applied to TF2 at large.

with all of the items that returned from base tf2, I’m surprised the bonk wasn’t one of them.
(Cause before i didn't have a good PC)
I have been exposed to it for nearly my entire life thanks to SFM and GMod animations, and the version of the game i was exposed to was like this, no hats, only a few weapons, very arcade and arena like gameplay, it was the version of the game that was "promised" to me (Or i guess advertised is a better term here). Modern TF2 is still good, but it will never be like the 2008 version, So TF2 classic makes me glad that I'm able to experience a similar version to something like that!
I want us to all move forward from tf2 knowing that artworks have a soul, and that soul can be destroyed.
i dont play tf2 classic because the balance is centered around the avarage player. and they also did shish like giving heavy a medium range rocket launcher or straight up give some weapons upsides that dont exist in vanila for a reason. like as if they dont know the tf2 balancing concepts that are not surface stuff.
ignoring that stuff, it was rly fun to play when i did some time ago and also feels nice
What are some examples of bad/mediocre balance in TF2C you can think of, and if you can articulate it, why?
Those new weapons are amazing. More utility, more alternative playstyles, more options.
Guess I'll know what I'll be doing today.
23:48 Bo0Oo0oing! 💥

Funny thing about the more detailed weapons, that's just... what the weapons were like before they got butchered in later updates at the altar of performance. It's TF2 _classic_ after all.
I’m about 82% sure Uncletopia (and servers like it) is the only reason TF2 is still being played as much as it is
True. On the weekends aus servers get infested with bots sometimes, casual is literally unplayable then. You have to wait like 15 mins to get into uncletopia servers whenever it happens
Thankfully I think the most recent minor update broke some of the bots at least for aus, so casual is fine for now
Honestly Uncletopia does have a large chunk of players but at the end of the day it's just alt casual, with a monkey paw trade of no bots for sweaty miserable players.
I like the concept for Heavy to have AA gun. You can now be the Anti Trolldier
-120 burst dmg is questionably high.
agreed
Do you even test in game yet ?
@gamerbeginner5019 I've been playing tf2c since the Fight or Flight update.
As someone that's been playing the mod for awhile, this video is less of a commentary, and more of an advertisement. A dishonest advertisement at that.
Dude really said only 1/4 of the players winning is a bad thing while we had entire year of battle royale craze
About the nailgun, didnt see all the weapons yet but I do think that giving more weapons a semi-auto mode is not the good direction. Part of the unique fun of the game was that each shot matter usually
I love the heavy rocket gun as well as the pyros harvester and double barrel gun though
