    Making guitars is not easy - they don't make themselves y'know! I'm always saying that getting your wood flat and straight is half the battle - it is one of the hardest jobs and you need to do this before you can even start building. Tht is where we come in - our ready to work blanks are already 'thicknessed' and sanded clean, level and straight to make your life just a little bit easier.
    Remember:
    Its guitar making...its live...Bring your best Q's! Carol will be on hand to harrang me where necessary!

    Sorry I keep missing the live streams but I am so grateful that you upload them so I can watch them over and over. Thanks for everything.

    I realy appreciate the blanks I ordered from your shop that are all ready to go and beautifully quarter sawn. I'm very pleased with the whole kit. As a beginner I have a lot to learn about wood species and wood grain. I feel it's more important to focus on the actual guitar at this time. I've almost finished making templates, jigs, and caul(s)for making my first guitar. Soon I will be able start right in to the build.

    You keep saying 'more expensive than everyone else' but I'd say you're on a par with other pre-worked body/neck blank suppliers. Never bought a body blank from you but the necks & fretboards have always been spot on.

    Another lockdown lifeline from Mark. Hand planing on a bench is even more difficult when you’re 6ft 1in tall.

    I love using an Alaskan mill for 3’-4’ logs. Makes necks and bodies a breeze and I get to pick the best looking pieces. Although the cost for all the tools required for totally ready to go wood can be quite high. Love the videos and new subscriber here.

    Another insightful session - Proving once again that the world ain't flat unless Mark says so!

    Really interesting to see what goes into preparing the blanks... Good to have the skills to plane etc but I vote for machine anytime... Ha ha..

      Great contribution with the lighting and tv tips Stephen. Thanks a lot, only one question what’s Carol going to do with the spare hands she won’t be using

    Another great live stream, and again lists of info...brave to hand plane and sand an acoustic back live on the net..not for the faint hearted.

    Here's another planing tip. When I plane, I usually want my shavings to feel like tissue paper. If it feels a bit thicker than that, it's good for rough work, but tissue paper is really nice for fine work.

    Why don't to pass rosewood back in drum sander instead of using screper?

    • @GuitarMaking
      @GuitarMaking  3 года назад +3

      I always use the drum sander - but if you don't have one you can use the hand plane - it just takes MUCH longer!

    Thanks. Any thoughts on using a router sled to flatten and thickness? Probably not a good idea for thinner acoustic pieces.

      Works great with some ingenuity but will go through the router bits. Best of luck.

    A tip is "don't turn your router on before plugging it in".
