  • I took some of the strips of LED baqcklights from a broken Samsung TV and turned them into some very bright cabinet lights.
    Each strip originally required 48 volts. I make them run on 12.

    Very interesting there! Currently troubleshooting my first given-to-me-free-TV. A Samsung UN48J5000. After disassembly, I found a badly-burned spot between two LEDs that would arc, causing the PS to cycle on & off. I attempted a repair by scraping off the white coating and soldering a wire across the burned-out area. Sort of worked. Kept arcing. Burned out the single LED to the right of the burned area. LED ~ 1.4mm/side. Way too tiny to 'replace'. So I figured I'd just cut the end of the strip off with the burned area + dead LED, scrap off the white coating and complete the series ckt with solder. The rest of the LED's all light. Maybe then the PS would stabilize and stay on. PSB is L48MSF_FDY BN44-00852A. LED light strips are 2015 SVS48 FCOM FHD DOE A RIGHT REV1.2 150605 LM41-00120Q_LM4100149A.

    I just bought a flat screen TV home from garbage that had a broken screen didn't realize it was an LED TV wanted to take it apart for the heat sinks inside like another one that I want to use for a project. Instead, I found all these LED's 7 in a row. Like you have their 10 rows, 70 LED's now I've learned how to power them up, and there was no large heat sinks in this TV.

    perhaps there will be heat problems, the backside is glued to a metal surface in the TV so they are probably specced to not be stuck to a heatsink.
    I have a 94v strip, each led has 3 LEDs in it... it's something like 28 LEDs per strip. 28*3.5 is about 94v perhaps that's the way it's wired.

    Nice illustration. I happen to have the old/original set of led lights from my Samsung 55" TV. Some are blown but a majority are good. Since I am in the process of building an "airbrush painting booth" (64qt bin), I want to add these leds along the top. I will have to review your video, so as to pin point where you scratched the paint off and where to solder wires.
    I'd like to know if that black box was a laptop power supply? You said 12v..? I kinda thought these leds needed about 27v to light up. Do you have a way to hook my idea up?

    I came across a broken TV in an alley that I took apart on the spot just to see what was inside and it had these kind. I didn’t keep them in a strip through and cut them into pieces with the +&- still showing. Since then I have taken apart a 65” TV, a 24” computer flat screen, and a laptop monitor and those 3 had LED strips but they were all surface mounted flat LEDs about 1/4” apart from eachother and not spaced out in a little clear bubble. And I kept them in a strip. They are incredibly bright. Infact they are bright enough to blind me temporarily. I’ve only lit them up with 2 AA batteries since I think most white LEDs are 3v.

      Many of those modern laptop chargers actually communicate over the power cord to the laptop to see if it is the correct make / model and if not they will not charge or put out any voltage.
      My HP work computer will not charge on my DELL adapter even thought they are both rated the same, nor will my Dell laptop charge on my work computer power supply. For that matter it also will not charge the battery from my old Dell power supply, but that one will run the newer dell, just not charge the battery unless the computer is totally powered down and then the adapter connected. In that case it will charge, but as soon as the laptop is booted a message comes up on t he screen saying that the adapter is not the correct model and will not charge the battery. Both are 19V 4A chargers, but the older one doesn't have the chip that communicates with the laptop. Sony was good at pulling that crap with their camcorder batteries so if you bought a new camcorder the old batteries would not work with it.

    Do they still run as bright as they would have on a 24v feed? If so, I don’t get why they’d set these up with 24v instead of running a 12v up the middle or just manufacturing the strips in half sections.. but if NOT, then I get why they’d use 24v...
    I’m just asking because I have tons of these and tons of the screen films just waiting for DIY projects but the bulb strips always scared me ever since I tried to just leave them in place and plug the TV’s wire right in.... I got a spark and magic smoke 💨 which confuses me because other videos and people I’ve read in blogs do this with no issue... so I’m trying to learn and understand. Thanks

    • @12voltvids

      They run 24 / 48 / 96 volts per strip because the higher the voltage the lower the current and the smaller wires they can use to feed them.

    As LEDs are connected in series, if you abandon one or two coz they are faulty with out replacing them, don't you think that there is an increase in supply voltage of LEDs remaining on the strip ,compared to their rated voltage, hence affecting their performance?

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  Месяц назад +1

      Not at all. The power supply is current regulated not voltage. It adjusts the voltage dynamically depending on the series load. Remove 1 or 2 and the voltage drops. I have seen panels with 20 shorted led and they rest are still running. Remember led fail in 2 ways. They short or go open. When they short you get a slight dimming of the panel at that area. The one I did a full backlight replace on last year had a bunch shorted when one went open and took the panel out.
