its great how interviewer #2 gave kudos to the interpreter aswell. i'd imagine you have limited time with each celebrity so to veer off to talk to the help, that is very considerate of him for her acknowledgement.

Sharon Choi, the interpreter got recognition here! I Iove how Bong slightly nudged her to enjoy it.
I get the impression that Bong Joon-ho is a genuinely kind-hearted guy.
Miss Choi is the link between us non-Korean language speakers and Director Bong's mind. She is one of the most essential elements in Parasite's campaign.
What can we learn here for foreign language films campaigning:
1. Get one translator and stick to that person throughout the campaign because as the season goes on, the translator becomes more and more familiar with the usual questions and answers and translation becomes better.
2. Get a translator that really translates. We know Miss Choi's translation skill is superb because the Korean speaking commenters always say that she does not miss anything whilst translating.
tbh bong joon ho knows enough english to express himself but he decided to be loyal to his language and say fuck to those english supremacist that only care about art if it is in their language. that's why his speech was literally "stop being lazy and selfish and learn to watch films in their original language". a genius.
but yes, the interpreter is amazing, she is so talented!
I generally very much agree with you! However, it would be great to refer to her as an interpreter and not a translator since there is a massive difference. Translators usually translate written language and interpreters with spoken language!
Yes! As a bilingual, I am absolutely amazed by how she conveys even the smallest nuances of whatever Director Bong is saying, especially when mere direct one-to-one translation between the two languages would be insufficient in conveying the real meaning behind the words.

I went in to see not knowing what was it about at all and it was all worth it.

@Only Jungkook -Technically they do . It up to the filmmakers to submit their film in categories of their choosing , whether you make the cut for nominations that Another matter . Theirs a lot of technically made foreign films year in year out but The way I see It always comes down to subject matter , taste and of coarse advertising. As for Parasite success , it not surprising that a film that comment on Capitalism would be well received in the holy land of capitalism itself , I think the director eluded to something similar.

The translator did a great job. You can see her understands cinema as well. Very simply and gracefully when she put - "once you overcome the one inch barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to many more amazing films". Simply sleek. Kudos
Parasite was robbed of Best Director and Best Supporting Actor for Kang Ho Song
I think the award season are just getting used to Parasite. I think Parasite will win SAG ensemble.
Similarly slumdog was robbed of any nomination in acting category as all actors were indian.
too many good movies this year. One cant win without saying that Marriage Story, The Irishman, Parasite, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was robbed (with Uncut Gems, Little Women, and the Lighthouse as snubs)

Thanks for interviewing the interpreter! I was very curious about her. Yes, she really is the BEST translator I've ever seen and I have seen many translators over the decades. She is phenomenal. Best luck to her pursuing her directing career! Go Sharon!! Proud of Bong Joon Ho and the actors!! I haven't seen the movie yet but I certainly well soon!!

Bong Joon Ho is such a class act and the entire "Parasite" cast left a really good impression on me. But Sharon Choi is who really surprised me during these interviews. She's not only beautiful but also extremely intelligent being able to translate on the spot like that despite not being a professional translator. Heck, even professional translators aren't as smooth as her. Makes me anticipate her future works as a director.
Lol during 1:09 she realized the question was directed towards her not Director Bong. She is cute as well and really talented. Hopefully she pursues her dream and makes a movie. And thanks to the male interviewer for asking her some questions as well.

I'm happy the THR reporter actually watched the film, THR has a history of sending journalists who don't do proper research to interview people, especially for POC *Cough* Seth *cough*
I am so happy this movie is a great success in the west, South Korean cinema to be very honest, I find it even better in terms of storyline compared to most of the typical Hollywood movies. I hope more Korean movies become mainstream US in the future.
It's also my favorite of the year ^^

Yes she is maam. Yes she is.
As "foreign films" (read, not 'murrrican) get more popular, the need for nuanced, high-quality subtitles and translations of media will be ever more in demand. Bong-Joon Ho's acceptance speech really brought attention to the "one inch barrier at the bottom of the screen", and I think people like Miss Choi are going to be the craftsmen putting some hand-holds into that barrier for the audience.

Bong knew he needed an interpreter who could pinpoint what he really meant, not a translator who convert from one language to another. Ms Sharon Choi succeed at conveying Director Bong's every subtle nuance since she's not only an excellent English speaker but also a film maker herself. This arrangement,her being his interpreter, shows well why he's called BONGtail. 👏👏👏
