I just got the Black Bay “monochrome” this weekend and loving it! It’s like an “if you know, you know” watch. Love the snowflake hands, iconic at this point
Omega Seamaster is a really nicely finished watch but to "90s" looking design and a bit too macho for my taste. The Tudor is classy retro elegant vibe and would gets my vote especially with the jubilee style bracelet.
Tudor's bracelets are leaps and bounds better than Omega except for the Planet Ocean. I have a 300m and a Tudor Black Bay 41mm with the blue bezel and IMO both are a good choice. I ended up putting my blue (2018+) 300m on an Artem strap with the OEM folding Omega clasp.
This video is extremely relevant to me. I am down to these exact two watches for my 30th b-day gift to myself. They both have strengths and weaknesses over each-other. Omega the better movement and an original design. Tudor the better bracelet & clasp with a timeless look. At the end of the day, they both are fantastic watches that you can wear in literally any setting and will be great looking forever. Its just going to come down to price/deal for me.
I would look at the second hand market! Great deals on the Seamaster all day! But if you haven't done so already, try them both on and see which speaks to you more!
@stevepapa I hear you. I have a Planet Ocean and it seems more luxurious to me too. But the Monochrome is so perfect that only the Sub can compete with it.
I bought my Seamaster Professional in 2001. To date I haven’t found any watch that I like more, still a daily wearer. Nothing wrong with the Tudor, but I like my Omega.
Comgratulations for being forward and not giving a mealy mouthed opinion, as is often the case in many reviews. Fwiw I also don't like the Tudor snowflake hour hand. But what probably kills the Tudor for me is that in case of a major repair the movement is chucked away and a replacement is put into place. Omega works on the movement but does not replace. Does it matter from a use perspective, no. But watches are an emotional thing, you 'd like to think you have the same watch down the line. To me this makes Omega a little bit more special.
I agree with you on the movement front when it comes to a luxury piece. Typically I don't mind movements getting replaced on a more entry level watch, like the PRX Powermatic 80, but for something that's high dollar, I want the movement to be as original as possible. Theseus's Paradox comes to mind in regards to watches.
Man, those hands in the omega along with that old looking bracelet are the parts that urgently need to be changed, the bezel needs to be revised as well so it can actually be gripped. The Tudor is a great watch for the price however I do not think it is better than the omega.
The hands have grown on me so much since picking this watch up, I've never had an issue with the bracelet either! But it doesn't mean some refinement can't take place! I want to see how Omega evolves the line!
I’ve owned both the seamaster 300M and a Tudor black bay steel. Quality wise, the omega wins in just about every area, except for the bezel action. In relation to the lume, I’d say they are on par with each other. In regards to the caliber 8800, it only has one barrel. Its the caliber 8900 that has 2 barrels.
@ Nope. Only the 8900 series. But it’s still a fabulous movement… basically the same, except for the twin barrels, 5 horas extra power reserve and the jump hour function, but no quick set date which is a negative if the watch has a date.
@BenNS1971 well thanks for the heads up! It must be the co-axial escapement which causes the seconds hand to immediately start up the moment I start winding it
Great video as always Steve! I've own(ed) both. I currently have a BB41 Burgundy on the 5-link. I absolutely adore it. Like you said, it's very comfortable and just easy to wear. (My wife and I have somewhat matching Black Bays; she has a BB54, so it will not be leaving my collection). However, I've owned and sold two Seamasters, the white dial and summer blue dial. I've discovered I don't connect with white dial watches and the summer blue's legibility wasn't great in all conditions. With that said, I miss the Seamaster SOOOO much and will soon be buying the classic Blue dial. There's something about the Seamaster, has an "IT" factor for me. So I agree with your conclusion - Seamaster for the win!
I have ma Sealander and Planet Ocean. Im usually not a fan of Tudors, the snowflake, rivets and slab side put me off. However, this Monochrome has me interested.
This is a way more balanced comparison with , in my opinion, making the Tudor a more compelling peice . I've never understood why anyone compares the Seamaster to the submariner, the Rolex being a far superior peuce . That's just my opinion, after collecting for many years and owning all three .
Both have incredible strong points. The Lume and the composition of the lume layout at night is way better on the Tudor. I’d like it if the Tudor was on 42 mm So in conclusion I’d choose hidden option number 3, the Breitling Superocean heritage II 44
I have Tudor BB mono and Seamaster green dial (I hated those red details in other colors and these new models came after). I hate Omega steel bracelet, it's classic but it's dated. I love omega mesh but it's ridiculous expensive, 920e for Mesh bracelet. So I bought rubber with deployant clasp. After that Seamaster came my daily driver, not too fancy and very comfort for lefty. I absolutely love Tudor BB mono with jubilee, all the shiny parts against matte black bezel, beeeeeautiful. If I wanna dress up even a little bit, you know smartcasual, I wore that watch.
I like the Tudor much better than the Seamaster. The Escape valve is ugly, the bezel shape is ugly, and the wave pattern on the dial is a big turn off. The Tudor is classy, timeless and outright beautiful compared to the Seamaster. Generally I love Omega. I actually own a Aqua Terra
I have the Tudor BB Mono and the white seamaster 300m diver and enjoy them both. I will say that lately I haven’t been reaching for the BB as much as before. Hit me up if you’re interested 😂
Omega is a better product, that’s just an observation. However, the 300m is long due an update on its strap, and it would be nice if they addressed the thickness of movements. For me personally, the aesthetic of the that new black bay is great, and the new omega black no date is only a small step towards fixing its appearance. I’d like to see the design go back to the 1990s, as I find the skeleton hands difficult to read in low light, and the helium escapement is unappealing. I bought the NTTD, and it’s great to look at. I also own a Rolex 14060m, which is the real version of the Tudor homage. Why pay 4k for a homage. Tudor has no design language its own.
I own both the Monochrome and the Seaweed variants, the Seamaster is the superior watch hands down no question about it, that said, the Monochrome has far better bezel action (one of the best) and a far better bracelet, the five link is amazing. Now trying to pick between the Pelagos 39 (I also own) and the Balck bay 41, to me that’s a really though one.
RUclips is tough, I hope you get a lot more views on this video. I would say pretty fair comparison but I would hands down give the bracelet to the Tudor.
I gotta say Tudor on this one. I think the monochrome looks amazing with that bracelet. I’m trying to be responsible and hold off for a while before getting it but your vid isn’t helping lol. Great vid man
I’ve got both ,it is no comparison because the Omega is two levels higher quality ,I like both but Omega is much ,much better made . The Tudor monochrome looks so poor and boring ,better choice is red bezel .
Omega is Swiss Made dummy. Always the noobs that need to speak their misinformed opinion. Tudor is garbage BTW! (and this is coming from a Rolex fan boy).
Omega is Swiss Made, smooth brain. Always the noobs that feel the need to impart their misinformed noob knowledge. Also, Tudor sucks! (And this is coming from a Rolex fanboy).
@@HerschelLaCroixI’m an Omega fan but unfortunately, yes their bracelet and certain parts are in fact made in China 😢. That has made me think a few times before committing to another Omega piece.
Not a Tudor fan but this Black Bay with Jubilee is killing it.
The 5 link bracelet is a game changer on this watch
@@xelaeeg you’ve got on the mean fully scratched bezel Tudor of mine ?!
I just got the Black Bay “monochrome” this weekend and loving it! It’s like an “if you know, you know” watch.

Nice pick up!
I like the new Tudors too. Mine is the older version 41mm with the blue bezel.
I 100% agree with you, Steve. I own the BB41 Burgundy(2023) and the Omega Seamaster(blue). I wear the Seamaster every day, it's perfection.
So good!
Omega Seamaster is a really nicely finished watch but to "90s" looking design and a bit too macho for my taste.

I do love Artems straps! Great choice!
Put it on a Formex clasp and you’ll get the best clasp out there
Meta certified 5 link tudor bracelet is a win win anyday . The best vintage design made by tudor till now
I do love that bracelet!
I liked how the Tudor looked on your wrist most, but I'd also go with the Seamaster
They both look really good to me!

I wear my white Seamaster on a Forstner bracelet. Love my 6 Omega's and love my 3 Tudor's. Terrific brands
I should check out the Forstner bracelets!
The Monochrome is better. Best watch of 2024. Timeless elegance. Way more comfy on wrist. Better bracelet and bezel action by a mile.
It's definitely a close one! The Seamaster feels more like a luxury piece to me!
@stevepapa I hear you. I have a Planet Ocean and it seems more luxurious to me too. But the Monochrome is so perfect that only the Sub can compete with it.
@maitrehg I need to get a Planet Ocean in for review!
