- Ernie served on the on the USS Missouri during WWII and witnessed the end of the historic war. Volunteers from the Battleship IOWA in California put together the event to him for his bravery and his service to the country. 24 chief selects stood in front of his California home and sang a Navy march song, 'Anchors Aweigh'. #InsideEdition
98 year old standing up and saluting.. Wow!! Respect.
But 23 old professional millionaire athletes cant stand, they kneel and turn there backs. That's how sad this country and the generations has changed
@Scotty Scotty you know it started out with Kaepernick sitting. It was a member of the military that told him taking a knee would be more respectful. So you're actually hating on this suggestion of a member of the military.
Many thanks to Ernie and a deep obeisance for his efforts!
What a man who still stands up and salutes at 98 ...
and when I see our youth like this, I get scared and fearful.
It takes more men like Ernie...
@Scotty Scotty sad to bring that discussion up after watching a nice gesture like this.
He is 102 year old
I worked for a 93 year old ww2 army vet one summer, helping him do maintenance on his rental houses. One day he said that it been 20 years since he had a beer and asked me to buy him a six pack of Budweiser. We sent sat down and split the six pack together and he told me all about his experiences in WW2. That conversation motivated me join to the army and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made.
You're making me want to join. I'm tired of having wasted my 20s
@@mitchellparker7076 just go on my brother 🔥
@@mitchellparker7076 it’ll be painful. But you can handle it. You sweat in training, to not bleed in war.

It’s sad to see all the WW2 veterans becoming almost extinct now. God Bless em all...
And the West is falling apart. It's not a coincidence.

@@lazarflicks240 that’s so disrespectful. Shut up
I just realised that our generation will be the last one to see WW2 veterans still alive and strong.
More than likely, yeah
It's a shame that every generation after will only read about ww2 and never have the chance to physically meet one. My grandfather was on the shores of Normandy so I am fortunate to have heard first hand the totality of the moment. He passed in 2004. He was a Hospital Corpsman.
Not exactly, depending on how young other countries allowed soldiers the next generation may be able to witness some. Actually the age gap shouldn't be that long so maybe not
yeah but wb our young veterans? they're helping us survive. we should also help them in whatever way possible
I mean a new generation started in 2010, but it is sad
Now to do this for all our wwll vets before they're all gone
They will never be all gone .human nature will not allow it .There will always be war.
Ethan Mooney there dieing fast
Sad to think the last ww1 vet died in 2012
he said WW II vets not war vets
Yes, it was Florence Green. Look at here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_last_World_War_I_veterans_by_country

Very lucky. Our sailors got to see a lot of the war just like our men on the battlefield.
Bless this man, he's a badass in my eyes but to him he was just serving his country.
As a veteran myself, I thank all older veterans for their service. Without them I would not have had the chance to serve in the Infantry myself.
Mad respect for Ernie and the guys who honored him like this. I especially liked how they each chose a different key to sing in.
I love the my country England but I simply cannot imagine that happening here. It was great to see such honour and patriotism, flags flying at homes and people coming out to see the servicemen honour Ernie. You guys really know how to celebrate your serviceman. Thank you for your service Ernie, folk like you have given us the life we take for granted. God bless.
Thanks to the Troops and civilians of the UK and the Commonwealth. Your people showed our Troops how it was done and inspired every civilian in North America to hang in there and do their part. Thank you for always being our ally and our Mother Country. As for the display, you see it sometimes. We're a little more nationalistic and that's not always a good thing. We love our WWII Vets, though. My little group of Vet friends used to hold court in the middle of the shopping center. Everyone loved them and begged for stories. They're all gone now and I miss them.
I saw a video of people vandalizing Sir Winston Churchill's statue, it looks and feels so wrong.

A battleship sailor is a special breed ! I lost my Navy veteran uncle last summer. He was nearly 97, and always modest about his WWII service.
Wow, what a great tribute to a Vet. I too served on the USS Missouri and am grateful for the work, dedication, and honor those guys put into that ship. We were honored to take the ship around the world to show the flag and we enjoyed the reputation that our shipmates before us earned. Fair winds and following seas Ernie.
