    Frank in Ireland. I spent 40 minutes in a cloud and did 30 km. My 2 euro compass saved me. It was pitch black inside and like a washing machine. Terrifying is what it feels like.

    Ich finde es jedenfalls stark, dass Du das Video einstellst und Dich allen Fragen und zT auch Beleidigungen stellst. Vieln herzlichen Dank, denn ich kenne das Einsaugen bislang nur vom Hörensagen und Dein Video hilft mir auf alle Fälle dabei, schnell zu reagieren, sollte ich mal in so eine Situation kommen. Ich wette, dass jeder hier schon mal Mist gebaut hat, nur dass es davon einfach kein Video auf RUclips gibt.
    Danke man👍🏻👍🏻

    Happened to me once - started using big ears and speed bar before being sucked in, and the vario kept beeping once in the clouds.
    I didnt want to risk going to lee side, etc. so within a few seconds I had decided to spiral out of it (despite never having done a spiral at that stage, but having read so much about it).
    Fortunately the spiral worked and as soon as I could see again I stopped the decent and headed away from the ridge.

      My thoughts exactly, only spiral helps here!

      @renedekker9806 Год назад

      @@juricacabraja9509 _"only spiral helps here!"_ - at 0:15 you can see that the top of the mountain is in the cloud. Definitely do NOT do a spiral close to the mountain. A spiral will keep you in the strongest part of the lift, with the wind pushing you towards the mountain.
      The choice of the OP was correct: big ears and speed, and fly towards the valley. He just should have done that one minute earlier.

    • @janwinders9702
      @janwinders9702 Год назад

      @renedekker9806 yes, you can see that the top of the mountain is in the cloud. But it is quite far away. The height of the mountain top is about 2250 m while the pilot is close to the valley. The ground is about 1200 m at this location. So we are talking about 800 to 1000 m vertical distance between pilot and ground. No need to worry to spiral into the ground before leaving the cloud.

    • @janwinders9702
      @janwinders9702 Год назад

      @@renedekker9806And the wind is coming from the mountain (north). So it is pushing you into the valley. Are you even familiar with the area?

    • @renedekker9806
      @renedekker9806 Год назад

      @@janwinders9702_"But it is quite far away"_ - it is not as far as it looks, because of the wide-angle lens.
      _"The height of the mountain top is about 2250 m while the pilot is close to the valley. The ground is about 1200 m at this location"_ - he is flying approximately over Sattleggers, which is at elevation 1800m. The nearest top is Naßfeldriegel, which is indeed about 2250. You can see on his vario that his altitude is 2200m in the beginning. So the distance between cloud base and ground was less than 400m. And that would have diminished rapidly if he would have drifted more towards the mountain.
      _"And the wind is coming from the mountain (north)"_ - it is not clear from the video which direction the wind is coming from.
      He was not going up very fast. Better play it safe, and fly towards the valley than to risk a spiral dive into the mountain.
      He made the right choice to fly towards the valley. He only should have done that much earlier (already before the video starts).

    If you find yourself under a cloud, looking up, always have a 45-degree angle to the edge of the cloud (with reference to the horizon). If this angle becomes less than 45 degrees then move closer to the edge. Use speedbar as necessary.

      True, the cloud had not much vertical development, not strong updraft. I had got in two times before in this flight but this time the suck was strong enough to keep me lifting with bar ears. But max 3-4 /ms for few seconds as seen.

Was wäre gewesen, wenn das Steigen etwas stärker gewesen, und oder ein anderer Flieger plötzlich im Wolkendunst exakt vor Einem aufgetaucht wäre?
