When I thought I was going to build a Modular setup in 2014 (Pittsburg Modular) The case and Sequencer were almost $1000.00 then looked at the MOOG Mother 32 and Minotaur and that was the same price. Then 2018 the Neutron and Model D (Behringer) were released and I jumped on them, then brought a Pro 1 and a Crave. I am beyond stratified and so is my Liver!.
My question is..Since there's no Hold on this, in a setup with several synths, running from one Keystep37, can it be controlled from another Synth, and stay on, when you switch to another Synth? If that makes sense. I'm waiting for the Pro 800, but for now, all I have is a Volca Keys, and a Crave. I want to be able to set up a sequence, and have it play, while I go to another synth. I'm thinking it also might work with the CV out from the Keystep. I don't want to get one without knowing if it has enough flexibility, so that I'm not stuck on one synth at a time. I do have a MIDI router, but when you change synths on the Keystep, the one you're playing stops. Thanks! ( If it's not obvious, I'm still pretty new to all of this.)
the sensitivity of the tuning can be moderate by lying a little washer of cork or feutrine between the chassis and the button, it works very well ! this synth is a pure marvel !
Considering what it would cost you to buy this in seperate Eurorack modules its absolutely worth it. The LFO alone is awesome, with the morphing waveshapes. Two oscillators with morphing waveshapes. Hard to find even just those two features in eurorack modules.
I'm not sure if this, the Crave, or the MiniBrute 2s is better. I think the MiniBrute would last longer and look better but I'm not sure... How is the build quality on the Neutron?
I have a minibrute 2s and the neutron. The minibrute is really big and the tuning can be finicky. I do really like it, but I find the neutron has a more unique sound due to the morphing functionality, and stands on its own better due to the delay. The brute has the sequencer as a killer feature
I'm a kind of "gateway proof guy" )) Did smoked pretty much about 15-20 years ago and didn't went further to some "higher sections". Some pals even suggested me A for free few times but it just wasn't for me! The same with Neutron and Model D - I've didn't proceed into the modular hole of eternity. And even didn't continued to buy more "little funny mono synths" of Uli. I've couldn't cancel myself to buy DM12 and Pro-800 though. DM12D was used and for a really good price! Pro-800 got for 150% price though! But I don't regret because it sounds great. Rather than that I don't want "WASP", "CAT", "K2" and etc... because I don't need them :) I barely use Neutron and Model-D now. But they're cool and versatile (for that price!) The biggest regret is that I've didn't ordered MFB Synth Pro when Manfred was alive. It's my dream to have this synth! I know how to use it. I'll sell A4 MK2 probably if I'll get it or a very similar gear.
I own the poly D , and it def does NOT have 4 note polyphony , or 4 note paraphony as most who are reading this expect. I’m not an engineer so I can only speculate , but if you play the poly D in “poly mode” each time you press a Key it trigger an oscillator. So if you play a major triad , C,D,E with your right , you’ll see the lights for osc 1,2,3 light up, and you’ll hear a chord. However there is no microchip or microcontroller releasing voltage to the Oscillators, I’m pretty sure it’s just your finger pressing the key. Why does this matter? It does not when you just play a single chord with 3-4 notes. But if you play the synth with any articulation , and get more than four notes involved , the synth does not know what to prioritize . It does have a auto damp, which is good and bad depending on style. This is not to say that the poly D isn’t great, and you can play with articulation, you just need to know it’s not as sophisticated as other 4 note paraphonic synths I’ve played. Many synths have multiple oscillators per “voice” so what’s listed as VCO 1 and 2 actually have multiple oscillators . Basically the polyD , it’s nice to have the unison paraphonic and poly modes, but I find myself playing in monophonic more often than not. Just due to the voice stealing and lack of note prioritization in paraphonic “poly” mode.
I thought the definition of paraphony was that it distributes notes across available voices/oscillators, but I may be wrong! You can do some cool stuff with it especially slightly detuning some of the oscillators, but yeah monophonic is where it shines I agree.
Good video 👍. I'm thinking of getting a second Neutron. Mine forms the core of an analogue sound engine for my Roland AE-30 wind synth which means I am reluctant to re-patch it for other things.
It is a nice synth, indeed. However, it is really hard to tune both oscillators, that is, not using sync or tune pot feature, of course. Because of that, phasing happens, and you end losing gain But, I really like it. And I mean it. You can go from the fatest overdriven bass to the weirdest modular bleep blop self generative FM moded with no sweat Also, great tune at the end of the video
Many people may not know this, but the Neutron is not actually a clone, but an original synth released by Behringer. Deadmau5 also has one in his studio!
Run the LFO in saw mode through the s&h. It won't be quantized tho. If you're gonna add to it, clock the s&h with an external clock/LFO, and use a clock divider to reset the LFO with a division of the same clock. That will get you an arp. Use a quantizer and you've got a cool patch for live stuff. Orrrr use a midi controller with arp function like the arturia keystep
You can have at least three OSCs (as I remember) if you'll use the custom firmware. One big con it has: no USB-MIDI :( So I've didn't tried it. But it's not hard to find.
in no cable is connected to att2 it routes the lfo to the pw of both oscillators so basic lfo pwm does not require patching
The main thing I learned from this video was the proper way to pronounce certain words.
That is my main mission, I appreciate the support

Thank you!
The Neutron is mono out. I own 2 Neutrons and pan both hard left/right for rich stereo separation. Great video by the way 👍🏻

I want one of those so bad. Or a Proton that they haven't released yet. Or the VCS3 synth they haven't mentioned for ages now...

Really good

Thank you for a brilliant demo! I do think this thing has legs.

Yeah I agree, it’s very sensitive to the point where it’ll almost nudge by itself and I imagine it would get worse when it’s worn out. Thanks man!
I need to know how you hook up a midi keyboard to please and thank you
You plug a MIDI cable from your MIDI keyboard into the MIDI IN socket on the Neutron.
Cool synth, it has certain sound, I used it a lot, but then I got Machine Plus and I rarely use something external with it. Still dope, tho.
Machine Plus is a totally different concept: incomparable. This isn't a groovebox session.
Many people may not know this, but the Neutron is not actually a clone, but an original synth released by Behringer.
Deadmau5 also has one in his studio!
Thought it was known as one of their only non-clones 😁 But better than most of their clones!

There's single preset, man. Just leave your cables patched up, and keep the cats off it, and you've saved your preset. No problem.

Haha exactly
Does this have an arpeggiator of some sort?
No built in arp, but I thought it may be possible to create an arp type sound with S&H. I found this for you

Run the LFO in saw mode through the s&h. It won't be quantized tho.
