    Thanks so much! I am in the middle of this right now - You need a 32mm 12 point deep socket to remove the orginal hub nut. I didn't have one so I cut the end of the shaft off with an angle grinder and used the shallow one I had. When grinding the out the bits that retain the ball bearings I ground through most of the way then gave it a sharp whack with a hammer and it just snapped the rest off. Only needed to remove about 4 balls and that was enough to release the rest. I am now stuck removing the circlip so have left for the morning. Will also need a 32mm hexagonal deep socket for replacement cv joint. Thanks again.

    Is clocking important with these kind of Joints? VW (2006 or newer models) use the same style outer joint and the inner joint is like the one on the Porsche . Do balls on the inner and outer joints have to be aligned (In line)?

      That's a very good question. I have not seen anyone done that on modern cars. The joints are different on the inside compare to the Porshe (or Vanagons) I would clock the Porsche ones, but not sure it's absolutely necessarily, as the suspension travel is very short compare to a "off roading" car like the Vanagon syncro
