The motherboards are very different on these models mine doesn’t have the NVME slot anywhere on the board and the ram is not soldered down to the board and has only one slot also hard drive are in different a place on the board and the hard disc drive that is built in is upside down too so many differences as the models change mine is a L340 15WL series.
17IWL is the 17" chassis with Intel internals. 15IWL is a 15" chassis with Intel. Surprised that they are so different in terms of board layout though - the 17IWL feels very much like a 15" machine internals spread out in a 17" chassis.

I'm pretty sure its basically the components of the 15" model inside a larger chassis. Demand for 17" laptops isn't particularly high, so it probably doesn't make sense to have different internals, particularly at the lower end of the market.
@@BrueComputing I have the 15 inch touchscreen model and I am absolutely going to drop an M.2 and more ram in, gonna go for those chromebook boot times even tho i only have a ryzen 3
@@gymcelsocialism I’m having slow boot up times and just slow performance overall really. I’m def gonna upgrade my ram and hdd as well. Do you think I’d be able to put a graphics card in it as well or is that only possible for the gaming model?
@@joseph_tuckerman graphics and cpu are integrated, adding up to 16gb of ram is possible on a laptop like this but thats going to be the limit of your performance increases.
Its most likely the 15" model mainboard in a physically larger chassis - you see it quite often as it doesn't make sense to design a separate board for a lower volume 17" model and you can just use longer cables between the mainboard and IO board.

This is very handy, to give an idea how it's done- even for an unrelated laptop!
Lenovo sold this bare bones. Feel ripped off. Having to add ram today , thanks for the video showing to get it open, much appreciated.
So on this device, we could not have 2 hard drive at the same time? One HDD and one SSD?
Is it set for lenovo ideapad l340 15iwl 4th gen has m.2 sata slot?

anyone knows the max height of an m2 nvme SSD that fits this notebook?
That was very useful,.

You could have put in an M.2 PCIe instead.
okay my Lenovo is good for fan clean 👍
They had that much room inside the case and they stuck a battery that pitifully small in it? Well, the LG Gram's got nothing to worry about lmao

Because it is cheap to do and there is SOME demand.
