Great! I didn't notice those little details I see in the comments ~ like trees not moving but wind is howling or a metal roof on a cabin! And who cares? Nit pickers & complainers only ones who just looking for stuff like that. Main stuff is the heart of any story & this had a great heart!

Nothing to do with that,Like walking around with red hair and your a bloke,Blokes didn't have red hair until the 90, because if they did they would probably have been beaten for being gay,So detail is important,Don't change the roof just change the angle of the Camera

Has Clints Joses Wales feel to it. Original and very well done. I have been watching westerns since the early 1960's and EVERYTHING about this was well done. Loved the story. Then main actor did a VERY natural and convincing job.

Constructive criticism: No smoke from any chimney in the town in mid-winter. Price label on the underside of the Dads coffee mug. Clean clothes. People just sitting outside doing nothing in mid-winter. Firearms were new. Modern red twine on the Dads cross. All would have been a easy fix.

Thanks for your comment and critique! We have been working on new films striving always to get the look right, within a low budget. This film was done with three high school kids from Washington, who traveled by train with all their gear to shoot in the Montana winter. The film was a great learning experience and the time we had on our own away from home in Montana was such an incredible time. We still laugh about all the silly mistakes in this movie lol.

It was fun to watch. Please realize no one would be out in snow covered terrain wearing cowboy boots and a cowboy hat for long. And leaving a door open in the middle of winter is unrealistic as well as sitting outside in those conditions. If you're going to introduce high winds as the backrkound noise suggested, then one should see movement from the wind. Not to criticize, only hoping to help. Good luck.

Also because we were picking up a scene from a warmer day we werent wearing jackets then so that day we couldnt wear jackets.

What was the significance of the brief shot towards the end of James fording a river?

    • @Snowblindproduction
      @Snowblindproduction  4 года назад +3

The original story was that James mother was killed during the summer 3 months prior to when the film starts. The shot at the end of him in the water is a flashback to James going back to find her. We are aware that this story line didn’t really shine through haha. But that shot was one of our craziest to get! Our camera man chased after our actor in the rapids (stupid I know but we was kids) and tripped on a fish (he claims) before being swept away. Don’t worry I saved him but his camera was gone for good. We still have that footage! Lol

Maybe a longer 'resumé' would help rather than " _A young trapper must come to terms with his father's failing health, they can't stay, but everything he loves is here_"? When is this set, the hotel is brick built so fairly late in the 'Gun Law' of the 'Wild West'.

Thank you so much for your in depth review! We still come back to this project being that it was our first and think of all the ways we could have made it better. Actually the point of the gun scene was to show that he wants to be a “cowboy” but he Isn’t really prepared for the real world. With all the stuff we learned on this shoot and the ones after, I honestly want to remake this.

@@Snowblindproduction Wow, when I read this it sent shivers down my spine, I loved this so much you have no idea, it was the first good thing from a lottt of bad things hanging around lately. I'm no film critic so I can't talk from that perspective, but the whole movie, backgrounds, the city, the pony express, that moved me and gave me a perspective from those times, how hard real life was for young and old people back then.
Do you know any other short movies with the 2 father and son actors ? Mr. Colton and the dad, I really want to see more of both.
      Thank you stay safe !

@@Mamuttum thank you so very much for your kind words. It’s still one of our favorite projects of al time. Many memories were made. My grandfather is in this movie as the drunk man on the porch, he passed away recently so the movie holds a lot of value to us. Currently we don’t have any more movies with Stan Smith (father) but Colton Cummins is in nearly every one of our other movies haha he’s great!! And also one of our co-founders lol

@@Snowblindproduction My condolences, my grandfather is also very old and now that you mentioned this I treasure this movie even more thinking about our "old timers" and the rough time they grew up in and all the happy times they had with us their children and grandchildren. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for replying, I found this movie of yours in some rough times that I have and it really makes the day better. Each weekend when I'm off work I start my morning with this movie, I cannot express the words how this little piece made me feel, especially the intro song, damn that hits hard. Sorry for my long comment, I wish you and your loved ones all the best, stay safe in these troubled times and thank you showing us what people are capable of if they set their mind to it.

Please forgive me. I will pick it to death first. Many of these things really do not matter but I am just that way. 1. Tin roof on cabin. Cabin not made for weather. If they had been there three years, the cracks would have been filled, windows covered. 2. No path to town. Dodging branches for a regular trip? 3. On the way into town, a man made earth dam. 4. Miners "screw up" town??? 5. Modern suspenders 6. Ragtime music was not yet invented. 7. Flint pistol so out of date. Disruptive. 8. Trap on daddy s foot but no yell of pain? A trapper would have been able to release a wolf trap. 9. 7 (?) shots from the pistol? 10. Plastic baler twine for the cross. (That is really the worst one!!) O.K. Enough nitpicking. Loved daddy's hat, the speckled horses, Thought the young man did a good job. Not a bad story. Could of built up the struggle about leaving and going in his mind more. Saw some great camera angles and work. Grew up in Bozeman and visited Virginia City and Nevada City often. Loved the setting. Most of my nitpicking didn't really matter. Overall I would give it a strong B. Keep at it!!

Hey Jon! Thanks for your comment!
Actually, the reason why the father's hat looked so real was that he was the only real cowboy we had in the movie, and that was his real sweat! XD.
We definitely cut a lot of corners but what can I say, there were only 3 of us on the crew and the 3rd crew member was the lead actor lol! If you watch the scene of them drinking in the cabin, you'll see red stickers on the bottoms of the cups from the store haha.
We are so much more focused on getting our accuracy down for these period pieces now (which can be tricky on a low budget). Unfortunately, we have yet to upload these newer films due to this Caronavirus shutting down our premiere. We are aiming for summer and hope you'll watch those movies as well!

My first wife used to wear period clothing. I think they called it a sanitary napkin belt.
