It's so ironic when Iwata said that not many people had the opportunity to play Wind Waker originally because the GameCube install base was small. Wii U install base today is half of the GameCube one in its days. Poor Wind Waker... Also RIP Iwata. We will miss you!
I love this direct. I know it's almost three years old but I still watch this to remember the excitement I felt first watching it but also missing Iwata.
It makes us fans feel included in the development of the games some how, and i'm grateful for that... sadly, the majority of the people like to get things more... you know... *DIRECTLY* , the game has to be understood and shown in a complete state while also showing a close release date or the consumer will be pissed.
When Iwata said they would release Wii U updates due to "player requests" instead of "user feedback" just shows how much he viewed gaming as something for everyone and not just a corporation. The Wii U was far from a traditional success, but it will probably be the last era of Nintendo higher-ups being this genuinely caring about gaming. I won't stop missing this saint.
You know, as godly as this Direct was, I actually think it hurt Nintendo more than it helped them. It made expectations for future directs balloon out of control and announcing a lot of these games so early did a number on their hype later on. I understand why they had to do this given how dire things were back in January 2013, but I am glad Nintendo now tries to not announce games too early just as they used to. Also, god speed Iwata. May your pure soul be at rest.
29:37 I don’t think people understand simply how important this part of the presentation was and still is now. It was literally the foundation of Breath of the Wild 1 and now the sequel. Especially since at this time, they had essentially only _Started_ developing the main game.
It honestly feels crazy to me that the game that ended up being the final 1st Party Wii U game and one of the launch titles for the Switch had a presence throughout the entire lifespan of the Wii U (Like, this Direct was roughly 2 months after the Wii U launched!). Probably the closest thing the Wii U ever had to vaporware. It's just wild how throughout the entire lifespan of the Wii U, we were constantly getting peeks at what next-gen Nintendo would look like.
This whole direct is so depressing! Iwata passed away, Miiverse discontinued, we will never get anymore virtual console, and the Wii U in general isn’t being supported anymore by Nintendo! It’s just all so sad!

Hot damn was this an insane direct, literary everything you would want to hear as a fan. However, this was clearly Nintendo's trap card for the weak Wii U sales because the release dates for all these games ranged from 1-4 years which is crazy!
I actually went back and watched this today, the day yoshis woolly world finally came out in the U.S. It took 2 and a half years, but it's finally here, and it's great:)
Appreciate this style of Direct. Iwata made me a Nintendo fan, rip. Now its just all flashy rather than a personal connection to Nintendo. These directs allowed us to see who we were supporting.

As neat as the Switch is it just doesn't feel the same as being a Wii U owner. There was so few of us Wii U owners that when you met another one it's like you shared a connection. A connection of owning a failing system, but still a connection.
Absolutely. In general, I feel the Wii U & 3DS era brought and delivered some of the most unique and underappreciated games, features, and experiences. Sure, not everything during that era was perfect. But I'd gladly take that over the current underwhelming state of both Nintendo & Switch. (That's just how I view it, you may think differently)
