Wild watching this ten years later; they really showed EVERYTHING in development for Wii U.
dang that true
Imagine if you had done a live reaction to this one.
It's so ironic when Iwata said that not many people had the opportunity to play Wind Waker originally because the GameCube install base was small. Wii U install base today is half of the GameCube one in its days. Poor Wind Waker... Also RIP Iwata. We will miss you!
Yes .....maybe for Switch now?? 😉
It’s not half, more like 2/3rds of Gamecube
Still, between the Gamecube version and the Wii U version, its combined sales are a lot better now
r.i.p also sorry wii u
Rip
The wii-u was slept on :/
And also, you could play GCN Games on most Wiis.
I love this direct. I know it's almost three years old but I still watch this to remember the excitement I felt first watching it but also missing Iwata.
if you're looking forward to hearing
6 years now.....
8 years now..
It makes us fans feel included in the development of the games some how, and i'm grateful for that... sadly, the majority of the people like to get things more... you know... *DIRECTLY* , the game has to be understood and shown in a complete state while also showing a close release date or the consumer will be pissed.
@@user-ti6us2br4x 10 years now
1:29 IM NOT ZELDA. Did not expect that on a Nintendo Direct
1:27 *
R.I.P Iwata ):
Zelda fan p
😢
GamerX 09 yes sadly
@Meowsy2.0 yes..since a long time ago actually
Since 2015
You know, as godly as this Direct was, I actually think it hurt Nintendo more than it helped them. It made expectations for future directs balloon out of control and announcing a lot of these games so early did a number on their hype later on. I understand why they had to do this given how dire things were back in January 2013, but I am glad Nintendo now tries to not announce games too early just as they used to.
Also, god speed Iwata. May your pure soul be at rest.
this direct is also known as the ''Panic'' direct, it was a desperate move to get the WiiU going. Not that it helped.
@@theonlyone1895 No, Not really....they Just didn't have the Games....Games, Games, Games....
@@theonlyone1895 wtf do you have that from?? 🤦♂️
RIP to Satoru Iwata. He was a game developer, a corporate president but in his heart, he was a gamer.
oh god, that xenoblade trialer is just too good. chills... everywhere
Yes!!! Switch Port now!
@@alessiocece2098 We demand a Switch PORT!
@@eshswam exactly!!
When Iwata said they would release Wii U updates due to "player requests" instead of "user feedback" just shows how much he viewed gaming as something for everyone and not just a corporation. The Wii U was far from a traditional success, but it will probably be the last era of Nintendo higher-ups being this genuinely caring about gaming. I won't stop missing this saint.
It honestly feels crazy to me that the game that ended up being the final 1st Party Wii U game and one of the launch titles for the Switch had a presence throughout the entire lifespan of the Wii U (Like, this Direct was roughly 2 months after the Wii U launched!). Probably the closest thing the Wii U ever had to vaporware. It's just wild how throughout the entire lifespan of the Wii U, we were constantly getting peeks at what next-gen Nintendo would look like.
29:37 I don’t think people understand simply how important this part of the presentation was and still is now. It was literally the foundation of Breath of the Wild 1 and now the sequel.
Especially since at this time, they had essentially only _Started_ developing the main game.
This Direct is now 10 years old.
What an honour! Iwata used my answers in this Direct !
Miiverse will shut down in November/2017... I will never forget it.
10 años ya, como paso el tiempo... aun jugando con mi Wii U
R.I.P Mr. Nintendo :(
It's Iwata!
@@therealzeldafan6018 it's his nickname in the early 2010s
This was truly the "save the Wii U" direct.
and now miiverse is gone :/
Not gone yet, but only 18 days left as of the time I am writing this comment.
Pero wtf
And so is Iwata :(
@@MazeBeans yes!!
Yes ☹️
This is still my favourite Nintendo Direct. They announced a TON of new games and info in this one and made me so hyped for E3.
8:55 *PLEASE UNDERSTAND*
I miss Nintendo Directs so much that I'm watching old ones
Ah, I miss the WiiU OS and Miiverse services.
Now with eshop shutting down this more sad to watch 😔
@@wiishopchannel0175 Wiiu ,Wii, and 3DS had the best background music. Yeah it was elevator music but with the UI, it was a good experience. Current Switch eShop doesn't compare.
I would say the Vita background music was good, but the UI was lackluster and didn't get the network support that it should have.
This whole direct is so depressing! Iwata passed away, Miiverse discontinued, we will never get anymore virtual console, and the Wii U in general isn’t being supported anymore by Nintendo! It’s just all so sad!
Of course it failed the developers were so confused
I remember when the days weren’t so bad... 😭
Great direct!
R.I.P. Mr. Iwata
Back when Directs were special
I miss these days may you rest in piece Iwata
I actually went back and watched this today, the day yoshis woolly world finally came out in the U.S. It took 2 and a half years, but it's finally here, and it's great:)
Hey, where's my Yarn Yoshi game?!
At e3
Its released in PAL regions this day. only 3 years late!
Yoshi Wooly World XD
Rest in peace Iwata. ;_;
Oh my lord it’s been 10 years 😳
Happy one year aniversiry of this direct!!!!
Happy almost 2 year anniversary of this direct!
Jorge Aguirre And still no shin megami tensei cross fire emblem.
Or Metroid, Xenoblade news, or the New 3DS coming to America. Hopefully these things change though as the year progresses.
Now are ten...
This was the direct that announced Mario Kart 8
Anyone else here in 2020 ;(
I remember when this was first shown
Me
Me in 2022
@@jarmag1512 i miss the wii u :(
I was here just to look at Yoshi's Woolly World again, because it looks so different!
@@jarmag1512 same
who is watching this after the 3ds direct?
🖐🏼
A lot of these games announced in this direct were released a year to a few years later.
Mario Kart 8 (2014)
Smash Bros. for Wii U (2014)
Bayonetta 2 (2014)
Xenoblade Chronicles X (2015)
Yoshi's Woolly Word (2015)
Tokyo Mirage Sessions X FE (2016)
Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017)
Also GBA games were added on to Wii U in 2014.
Wild that this was almost eight years ago. This remains my favorite Direct, it was so exciting at the time, unlike any other Direct so far, while being calm and focused purely on Nintendo thanks to Iwata. Miss you :,(
4:34 Leeroy Jenkins! Ever think you would see that in a direct? lol.
Lol!
As neat as the Switch is it just doesn't feel the same as being a Wii U owner. There was so few of us Wii U owners that when you met another one it's like you shared a connection. A connection of owning a failing system, but still a connection.
Absolutely. In general, I feel the Wii U & 3DS era brought and delivered some of the most unique and underappreciated games, features, and experiences. Sure, not everything during that era was perfect. But I'd gladly take that over the current underwhelming state of both Nintendo & Switch. (That's just how I view it, you may think differently)
@@jushy64 the switch has fulfilled many long awaited dreams and delivered some of the best games we've ever seen. it's probably their best era.
but I do miss the more fun side from back then
Thank you RUclips, it is essential for me to know what games were releasing 8 years ago.
What if.. in January 2014's nintendo direct, what if they talk about yarn yoshi, smt x fire emblem, monolith soft's game, smash bros launch window, and more!!
One year later, still no SMTxFE
It's been a whole year and we still haven't heard of Yarn Yoshi and SMT x FE.
What happened?
***** Let's hope they show something today.
Bipolar Bear nothing -.-
NintendoAndMusic1205 There was something. It was recently confirmed that development for the SMT x FE was right on schedule, I think it's safe to say we'll see it at E3, I think they said that actually, don't remember where though.
Yoshis Woolly World and Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE came out!
Yarn Yoshi became Yoshi's Woolly World.
Nintendo, please. I understand that you are currently under a lot of pressure and hard work, but please give us just a little bit more information for Yarn Yoshi. I loved Yoshi's story, and this game looks very promising. Thank you.
It's fun to look back at this direct after finally getting Breath of the Wild
Better than Nintendos E3 2015
Zelda fan yea bro you're right e3 2015 is worst e3 in nintendo history I think e3 2014 is the best
+Ultimate Gamerz idk 2008 e3 was bad for Nintendo
Wii U’s gigantic failure and the fact Iwata had to die in the middle of it makes me sad
You have to admit. His english is so nice to listen to.
this was one of the best directs I've seen in a long time.
Hot damn was this an insane direct, literary everything you would want to hear as a fan.
However, this was clearly Nintendo's trap card for the weak Wii U sales because the release dates for all these games ranged from 1-4 years which is crazy!
RIP Iwata !
I can't believe it's been 10 years already since the first footage of XCX was revealed.
Many people didn't play Wind Waker on Gamecube because of the small install base, so we're releasing it on Wii U.
*Curb your Enthusiasm theme plays*
Hindsights always 20/20
YES! my favorite Zelda game, in HD!
Watching before Nintendo switch reveal in January . Anyone else?
Watching before e3 2018 :D
10 years of this direct I cant belive it
1:02 TTYD reference!
RIP virtual console....
@TBB.Drent But Virtual Console isn't dead. It's still on the Wii U.
Iwata, núnca tiraré mi Wii U. Te lo prometo
😢🤞
:(
10 years ago today, we first learned about Mario Kart 8.
Two months ago, the last bit of new content for Mario Kart 8 was released.
What a wild ride.
This was one of the best directs ever because of X and SMTxFE
man, this was 8 years ago.
Dude I am so hyped for smash for wii u can’t wait for it to come out
Is this satire or not, because believe it or not, Smash Bros. For Wii U came out in 2014
Why am I seeing this 10 years later? Still best Wii U games ever.
There's been announced a new Nintendo Direct for tomorrow, 14.2, at 6 a.m. PST! You can watch it live on Nintendo's Direct site or their Facebook page.
Shin-Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem where/when?
I'm actually still waiting for the actual Shin-Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, not the thing that we got.
Brian Silva i mean, its still a good game-
That’s my Mii at 4:20 🌳😏
Where?
Joshua Pangan “stan” - “Roll tide roll”
Clefargle Smash Nice Job Getting In
Joshua Pangan thanks! It’s all been downhill from there!
New Nintendo Direct scheduled for tomorrow, about both 3DS and WiiU. I love the Directs.
Nice. Thanks for some info regarding the WiiU.
24:21 Is the new 3D Mario game announcement (it ended up being called 3D world) that made me so happy! This needs to come to switch with new worlds soon!
It did!
I want this more than anything else right now.
You can do it when the Virtual Console update comes.
Great start for the new year!
I came here from Chuggacconroy's for 26:56
That way they can incorporate more details from Wii U games in to the game.
Makes sense.
I wish we could get *this* Nintendo back.
This is the best direct of all directs for me. It's almost like E3, they announced so many killer new games that time. Unlike the directs these days, they just show games again we already know a few months ago. I hope Nintendo directs would always be like this, new games to show every direct.
oh sorry for the misunderstood :)
that work like in littlebigplanet games, like if you discovered a glitch or a trick or something you can snapshot it and upload it in the photo section for other to see it whether in the level you've taken the photo in or on something called your earth, then you can save it and export it to the ps3 HDD and send it to your friends websites etc.
8:50 please understand R.I.P Satoru Iwata
Eight and a half years after this was posted, and RUclips recommended it to me.
The Miiverse community really facinates me From excellent interactions with each other, to wonderful hand-drawn pictures. I am in awe.
Click The CC button. Click English (automatic captions). you'll then GET A SENSE of what he's saying. (P.S: He Learned English a short while ago. Plus he is 60 years old)
i so want a Wii U right now
SSBB was one of the games that my parents got me the same Christmas I got the Wii. I was amazed and I hope SSB4 will be even better
My body is so ready for E3 it's insane
Rip Miiverse. Im getting a wii u for my birthday but i wont be able to experience it sadly.
I sometimes turn on the Wii U to play a game, only to find myself on Miiverse the whole time! I love it! =D
Yeah that is a good point, but it would be nice if they both had a system for it. Then You could keep track on two different scales.
I couldn't really understand but I think heard something about being able to re-buy regular wii virtual console games from the e-shop. Is this true as of right now? And if so, how do I go about doing this? Thanks for any and all answers!
Watching when the new direct is 3 hours away
Wao, Nintendo announced breath of the wild 5 years prior its realase
THANK YOU!!! that's exactly what I had in mind too!!!
Can someone give a timestamp of when Iwata goes, “Please Understand”? RIP Iwata
I am late..but I got you
8:55
I REALLY WANT A NEW LUFIA!
I am 28 years old now and I played Lufia on SNES when I was 14... It would be a blast to see a new Lufia!
and the controller could be used as the little communicator thing you have with your teammates.
1:08 , the person drawing's name was ITCHyHEINy hahahaha
They saved the best for life I CRIED WHEN I HEARD THAT MUSIC!!!!!
this is probably the best nintendo direct till now
so pumped for wind waker HD!!!!!!!!
This is the best direct shown!
Wow, an open world Zelda game. I'm going to buy a Wii U specifically for this game
This was the best 15th birthday present ever
In the next Nintendo Direct in January, I sure hope to see a new trailer and a release date for SSB4 and hear word of N64 and GCN Games coming our way to Virtual Console. I hope they saw our post's willing for them.
