I love how MaoMao looks like this innocent, if intelligent young woman and all of a sudden we're reminded that she was raised in a Brothel by three of the top courtesans in the country who all dote on her and love her like she's their daughter/little sister. What I'm going to say are not spoilers, it's purely my reading of the situation. The emperor made the request to MaoMao in front of Lady Gyokuyou as a way to balance the power between the concubines. All concubines are part of families that in turn have their own interests and due to recent events, Lady Gyokuyou has been seen as a "favorite", which would give her and her family greater prestige. The emperor is basically making a political move to avoid a huge imbalance, which would greatly displease other families in the court. It's something deplorable but considering the historical period it's not strange to think that they would do this kind of thing.

If Lihua die, there will be rumors that Gyokuyou's lady-in-waiting didn't heal her on purpose, balance is somewhat maintained". Also saying this in front of Gyokuyo was like "rumors saying you are favourite but don't get too full of yourself"
The word you're looking for is "suffocating". The emperor also can't blatantly show his favoritism towards any of the high consort due to political reasons. Sure he likes Gyokuyou the most but that doesn't mean he can ignore the others.

I love Maomao taking the ladies-in-waiting down a peg 🥰 In regards to the ladies-in-waiting basically making Lady Lihua sicker, it's just like Lady Gyokuyou said in the first episode "It truly is a sin to be ignorant". In their eyes feeding someone with such social standing as Lady Lihua what basically amounts to "peasant food" and not keeping her beautiful/covering up the smell of sickness is disrespectful towards her social status.
That being said, the part where Lihua basically forgave the lady in waiting without actually saying it, well, was truly a beautiful moment. Both for Lihua and for that ladyinwaiting. For my part, I think Lihua's earlier bad attitude was mainly because of her indirect poisoning, not because she is a bad character.
I dont think Lihua knew about the rose with maomao's warning on it. I think it was one of her ladies in waiting that found it on the window sill and threw it out

As a guy i don't really have the right to say this, but if there's anything I learnt from my female friends, one of the worst things for a woman to experience is losing a child, and is definitely a heartbreaking moment that can take someone's will to live away. There's also something called post-natal depression which could be made worse by the passing of the son. And let's not forget she was being inavertantly poisoned all this while so her mental faculties were affected up to this point. Traditionally in Chinese history (or maybe other civilisations too) most concubines aren't normally the wise type, Concubine Gyokuyou being intelligent and wise is an exception to the rule. For my part, I empathize with Lihua nearly giving up on life. Thankfully she still had some sense left of self preservation which is why she continued eating even as her body was failing. And Maomao bitch slapping sense back into her servants and her definitely helped. That being said, many concubines can end up practically running the country instead of the emperor if they end up favored enough despite not being elevated as queen. Sadly most of those historical figures don't have a very good reputation and end up ruining the country with few exceptions. Empress Dowager Cixi is one famous bad example during pre-modern China. But another one called Wu Zetian, ended up being Emperor herself, instead of just being the wife of an emperor. Her reign didn't last long, but was considered a very good reign by Chinese standards. A brutal woman who was said to have murdered other concublnes to become favored, but extremely competent in running the country (research her name during the Tang dynast, which is what this series is based on I think)
