Okay so look - I know the people have spoken and no one seems to like MS 2.0 Prime, but it's literally the only MP scaled figure that I actively flip back and forth daily because it's so pleasurable and I don't need to set aside 20 minutes to do it. I know we all want heavy metal die cast everything but there's something to be said for playability too. This feels like a prime example of something that looks good, proabbly feels good, but just isn't super fun. Oh, and great review Bobby - thanks for putting in the time so we don't have to.
I haven't got it yet, but if what you say is true, then I'll make it a higher priority for myself, because being able to play with a toy (because that's what these are) is ultimately much more important to me than having something that I can bench press before it explodes into a million pieces.
Not sure where the dislike over Magic Square's new Prime comes from, but I thought it looked pretty good overall, albeit a bit bland.
@@GareWorks hahaha! Same. And I think you said it best - if you view figures mainly as decoration - maybe go TE or 44. If you want something to pose, play with and transform, there's none better. Lemme know how you like it!
@@jonathandavenport5326 From the reviews I've seen, MP44 seems complicated while TE and Light of Peace seem really easy and intuitive. I still love my MP01 because that thing is so simple yet impressive and built like a brick. I've been out of the loop but I haven't heard of people disliking LoP either.
Well said. I love my Magic Square 1.0 for the same reason. The Open n Play version of Springer isn’t over-painted and has a bit of die cast, but just enough in the upper legs to give it a little heft. His engineering for an MP triple changer is super intuitive and I figured it out w/o directions…which is good because it didn’t come with any. This tension between materials, likeness, and engineering is why I have two versions of many characters…and MP version and one of the latest mainline releases. Typically the MP for posing and dioramas and the mainline for actual play/flipping. It is nice when an MP hits both sweet spots.

I no longer wish to own X-Transbots Commander Stack.
I got this as I came to the game late and missed all the takara releases. I'm really pleased with how it looks, it looks great on my shelf. It does look a bit plain I get that but in my diorama along with the other movie bots it works really well. I do always like to transform my figures at least once for fun but unfortunately I'm just not gonna bother with this guy 🤷♂️ Overall I'm happy but it is a slightly backwards step from what I've got from them recently being their inferno and grapple which were both amazing!
If you're late to the game and really just a bot mode display XTB is perfect for you. The bot mode is probably better.

This obviously isn't a BSF friendly figure transformation wise, but it really is a great bot. For anyone that can handle transformations, it isn't as bad as it appears here,especially if you use the RUclips video over the instructions.

I am uncomfortable with this transformation.
Shout out for the smooth plate you added to transform on, that textured surface for the display looks good but always gave me anxiety when you were transforming something that bumped against it.

The engineering is impressive, but I think it crosses that line where it's not fun or worth the time and effort
See, I'm not so sure that it _is_ impressive. Anyone can make a thousand flaps flip over a million times to turn one shape into another.
What would be truly impressive is _not_ needing to do all those tedious steps. For example, having the cab only in one or two pieces sitting inside the torso, so that when you turn him inside-out, you have it ready to go instead of tons of flaps needing to be assembled into a cube.
I don't think XTB's designers are skilled enough to do that though, and it shows.
Please X transbots please make Galvatrons transformation a nice well done, no plastic bending, work of art. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 probably too late for that though lol

Especially when Magnus isn't exactly known for dynamic posing. I'm sticking with my THF Magnus. Transformation on this one looks abysmal. Might not break today or tomorrow, but someday for sure trying to get through that mess.

It looks nice enough but as a fiddler I'm passing. I'll wait and see what FT do but I'm not convinced by that one either at this point.
This looks like it blows the takara out of the water in the articulation and looks department (specially on the side view) but that transformation... Its just looks nightmarish and the end result its just a truck which only improves on covering the thighs and crotch and doesn't even hold together that well, overall i think i'll stick with the mp
It does, I think.
The robot mode on MP-22 was just so bulky and shell-ish. This one is amazingly sleek in certain areas.

I really hate when companies like XTB and FT don't prioritize transformation, just to achieve a perfect look on both modes. What the point of a transformer, if the transformation is bad and getting to the other mode is borderline hell.
Biggest issue with MPs imo. Not every figure has to be a walk in the park transformation, but jeez this is ridiculous. What little excitement I had for this toy was gone as soon as I saw the video length.
No interest in a transformer that's a chore to transform. I get that most who buy this will just display it and can't/won't transform it, but that ain't me. I don't "get" them, they probably don't "get" me either and that's cool. I can't buy this Magnus though. I'll stick with the THF TT KO, at least I can transform that.
I think it's perfectly fine that they go for the accuracy at the cost of it taking a while to transform. Because there's plenty of non Badcube level complexity versions of the characters out there already. Just maybe not in the scale you want. Yet not that many achieving as much screen accuracy. Takara Magnus is less accurate, but is fun and intuitive to transform and I still love it. I think the point of this existing is to show it can be done. If you want total accuracy though, then get a custom statue. If you want playability and a quick changer, get a simpler one.
@@darwinxavier3516 here's the thing tho. If the transformation is hell, you're pretty much buying a statue or at least a non transforming figure. Because, if you hate doing the transformation or the transformation is borderline impossible, like Alien Attack Megatron, then you can't get to the alt mode. So you're buying a figure only for it's robot mode, aka, even if the figure can transform, it's basically like you bought a statue or a ThreeZero/3A product.
@@theholo-library4020 Well, I'd say it's more akin to owning a plane that you're not certified to fly. It's not serving it's function, but it very well could if you bothered to go through the hassle to use it. Or better example, I could say the same thing about collectors who keep their figures mint in package but don't have a 2nd one to play with.
@@darwinxavier3516 in that case, yeah. I just personally find it frustrating because transformation is a big deal for me. I'd rather get an 8/10 appearance wise with a great transformation like an MMC/Dx9/Maketoys product, than a 9-10/10 appearance wise, but with a transformation that's ball cancer like Fanstoys/XTransbots. If you understand what I'm saying.

I'm surprise we didn't get a "Good night" during the transformation. What I nightmare.
I really wanted this bit man that transformation. Its should be fun going between modes but i just feel this looks insanely not fun. Guess ill stick with my MP 22
Sat down to watch this with somewhat high expectations and coffee. Finished the video with a couple pain pills. Good.night. what a head ache, that transformation was as bad as the bayverse megatron you reviewed. All those tolerance issues I'd have lost my patience. Thanks for the review Bobby!
Also an ab tilt in this puppy😮💨also the side skirts will go all the way out, for the shoulder panel I had to sorta lift the front panel to snap it all the way in but could just be poorly toleranced on your copy
Tolerance is fine on this copy. When you spend the time putting everything together correctly without the time pressure of producing a review video it comes together properly. Bobby did a great job with these considerations in mind.

Great Review Bobby...I never bought the MP UM because I always felt it was way too bulky. I do however like this XTB release and eventhough the Transformation is Next Gen, I still like the end result. With that say, A word for XTB...Don't make your Audience work Harder, make Them work Smarter. If only this applied to Comm. Stacks. Lol...
Looks beautiful in both modes - but good lord that transformation. Glad I'm not the MP hole..... I guess that complex, or difficult, transformation is the cost of "toon accuracy".

I thought for sure you were going to be redoing your Junkion shelf at least 10 times during that transformation. And I say that with love, I’d have broken that thing six ways to Sunday. I like the look in bot mode, but the alt mode just doesn’t work for me. Look forward to the eventual comparison between this and Fanstoys to see what winds up working better, the armor like Fanstoys is doing or this all in one that quite honestly looks to be a mess at this point. Here’s the thing about this Bot. Look at it and it’s alt mode. Then look at it in its robot mode. Then once again, look at it and it’s alt mode. Then once again, look at it and it’s robot mode.
Yes, the transformation was painful and probably not that fun, but what did you think it was going to be considering the distinctions between the alt mode and the robot mode?

Seems that XTB tryed to improve on the MP Magnus design, just like MS-01 did with MP-10, but made it way more complicated than it should be, and for the little improvements it got and don't think that it was worth it.
Wow, that thing looks like it jumped out of the TV Screen.... I could almost see my 10 year-old self sighing with awe LOL. When this was announced, I was initially hesitant to get it because I wanted to wait for FT's version. But after seeing how Toon-accurate it is, and knowing that FT may take forever to release their version, I might just go and grab a copy of Mr Stack 😊
Hell naw. I'm OK a tough transformation the first time, needing instructions. But then I want to be able to walk away for 6 months or 6 years. When I come pick it up for the first time in however long, my vague memory that "there was something tricky" should be enough for me to reconstruct how to transform it without assistance. If it fails that test, the transform is too complicated.

Right, I knew I was out on this Magnus as soon as I saw the video length...
Got a couple of XTB bots and I might pick this one up as well. But this guy is a prime example of QC issues that's inherent to a lot of the XTB products. Panels that don't tab together we'll, that red panel under his head in bot mode that's not painted red on the sides, parts of the transformation that require you to bend plastic, etc. It is those type of QC problems that stops them from really competing with the likes of fans toys. Granted they are cheaper.

Ah, this is why i hate the "cartoon accurate at all costs" approach. It mostly leads to nightmarish transformations
As usual it looks good in both modes but the built, transformation, paint and materials aren’t as good as I wanted them to be. I’m waiting for the FT one.

It'll be interesting to see how this will stack up against the future Fanstoys Magnus, especially since Fanstoys is going in a totally different direction than the XTB / Takara. With the G1 toy-esqe "Prime in power armor" design rather than the all in one design of the others.
I think regardless of however good or bad the FT Magnus might be, there’s going to be that personal preference of what type of Ultra Magnus figure someone wants.
Some people will be more than happy with an MP Magnus that’s just a power armor surrounding a white Optimus figure. But other people will want an Ultra Magnus that functions like an actual singular transforming robot rather than an armor you put onto a robot.
Now there’s definitely going to be comparisons between their overall looks, their stability, their materials, and their posability. However it’s going to be that robot in armor versus full on robot that will be the deciding factor for who gets either version of these 3P Ultra Magnus’.
@@jaydonmagan4694 I always prefer all-in-one transformations, but would still only get the FT. I am currently not buying XTB, mostly because I don't like their design choices, which often seem to lead to a more delicate feeling figure. Did you see that thing (above) when he was done transforming it? One thing I can say for FT is that when the transformation is complete, in either direction, the figure is still super solid. XTB is learning, just slower than I was hoping. I got their Virtus. But when I saw that the front of the whole torso didn't clip in and just hung there, relying on gravity instead of engineering, I was like "nah, I'm out." And Virtus looks really good on the shelf too.
@@scottrenfer2735 Yes, the very difficult transformation is a drawback of this figure, but that isn’t to say the way it ends up looking is an issue for every copy. Reviews for XTB’s Ultra Magnus are just now coming out, and two reviews I’ve seen before Bobby’s ended up with their truck modes all tabbed in well together.
Now obviously when there’s tolerance issues varying on expensive figures, that lessens one’s desire to purchase said figure. But there are those who’ll still take the risk to get the type of figure that they want. Yes, their transformation designs could be too complex and have design choices that wouldn’t have been needed, but like I said some people are willing to take the risks to get what they desire.
@@jaydonmagan4694 I hear you. And don't get me wrong, I'm glad XTB is in the game. The more options, the better! I really like cartoon accuracy, so I think their Magnus looks great in bot-mode!
@Scott Renfer of course it's gonna look floppy and sad when BSF doesn't properly tab everything in. Go watch transforms into a guitar and you will see this thing is solid in alt mode when done properly

Ye gods, talk about a grade-one fustercluck of a transformation. Having an all-in-one solution might have sounded like a good idea at the concept stage, but seeing it in execution - yeesh. Full marks for going the distance with that disasterpiece, Bob!
All that work to transform him, including needing a spudger every step of the way, you'd think the result would be a solid, satisfying vehicle mode but instead panels coming loose or untabbed all over the place. Nice robot mode but they might as well just made it a non-transformable and shaved half the price.
Only because of the guy transforming it. It's not gonna be solid when you have someone rushing through the transformation, not properly tabbing things in as you go.

I know Bobby isn't known for being the best at transformations, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is common (in addition to all the other common issues, most of which Bobby didn't encounter nor mention), and he outright said that the tabs for the truck bed were too big to tab in, so I fail to see how that's user error, unless you think he should force them in and crack that plastic just like the other parts which have been cracking on people (such as the hip skirts).
@@GareWorks go watch someone who knows how to transform figures and you I'll see it's user error. Bobby has problems with mainline stuff sometimes.
Does the truck cab turn independent of the trailer? Maybe I missed it but it seems like all reviews show the truck and trailer stuck in a straight line.

My man... I'm surprised someone trusted you with a large XTB. MAD-Props to that aussie fan. After tmreviews an guitarintoatransformer I was certain you'd break it or get the worst QC ever. (I looked it up on RUclips cuz certain folks have certain privileges... duh) That transformation is a bear cuz it's xtb. Kudos to you my friend. Still not for my collection but looks fantastic in bot mode. And those arms are low (surprisingly like the sunbow chart) but the figure has heroic proportions (which you oddly didn't mention). Good review as always. I love your opinion on mp related stuff. Did you get any of the new neca tmnt mirage offerings? They are pretty decent in paint still suffer qc issues that require floor polish.
Mine didn't stay tabbed together until my second attempt.

To me, even on a pure looks scale, it's a maybe 10-15% improvement over the Takara - and that is NOT worth the nightmare this thing is, let alone the hassle of buying this and selling my MP. It's really not a big difference for, what, seven years later?
I felt Xtransbots should first release the light blue toy version as earlier announced, and listen to the feedbacks from reviewers. They can then fix whatever issues and release this cartoon version later.
Why can’t they separate that front cab from the trailer.
I truly hate Takara for going with the simplistic, cartoon accurate Masterpiece look that all these 3rd party companies now seem compelled to imitate these days. Haven't bought so few Transformers since this trend began so I guess it's better for my bank account at least.
Thanks for the up front attitude about it. Good thing it comes out of the box in robot form. All mine that come out of the box in robot form STAY in that form. It looks great, but transformation is trash a.k.a. not fun.
I lost interest in buying this piece even before you got to the transformation, and it was when you showed the comparison with the Takara. I just didn't get that "look how far we've come" feeling; yes, the size and proportions are definitely better, but my main issue with the Takara was how plasticky it looked compared to other Masterpuieces at the time. X-Transbots could have blown them out of the water visually with a premium paintjob or sharper lines (just imagine if this guy had the same finish as Gravestone for example), but they just didn't. I'm slowly moving into the "curating the collection" phase, and I fear that I just need to see something more impressive to justify the cost of switching out a piece.

Good review. I think the robot looks good by itself and the Alt mode looks nice. Good grief that transformation does not look fun. I reallly like the Takara version myself and after seeing the sequence to get from robot to alt mode I am perfectly fine with what I already have. I got the SXS shoulder upgrade so mine has a better shoulder range now and it was only like $15. What I found interesting is that by itself I thought I liked it, when I saw it next to the TT version I did not like it and thought the proportions were off. It's funny, I saw this figure and I was like Wow they really compressed all of the alt mode to make the robot looks so clean. Now I know how they did it, with panels! It does accomplish quite a feat, but I for one want the transformation to be a little challenging not one where I need an engineering degree and it takes 2 hours to complete. I like the Diamond plating pattern in the alt mode. Does this figure have the Matrix gimmick in his chest? That seems like the one thing I would expect it to include Given the TT MP has it. I am happy for those that wanted an updated Magnus and are happy this was released. It would not surprise me if Takara decided to make a 2.0 version of this guy at some point given we got an updated MP44. I look forward to the Versus against the Takara version in the future. I will probably give XTB a shot with Runabout and or Punch/Counterpunch as I have not bought anything from them since Arkose (Beachcomber). Glad you got a chance to review it.

No clue when I’m watching as a kid wondering why everyone thought it was funny! Then as I got older was like OOHHHHH! I see now lol
The toon aesthetic has gone too far. I feel the manufacturers went that way to make the molds cheaper, not just to appease some fans. MP sales previous to toon accuracy were still good. This bot looks too plain. There have been several issues with it. People are going to scream how good it is, to justify their purchase. Can't wait for a SS comparison for this and Takara Magnus.
Xtb mostly misses, and their Cosmos is their best figure they ever done.

I respect Skullface. There are indeed some problems with this figure, so he chose not to recommend in good faith. Other people have experience hip skirts falling apart and shoulder joints loosening.
I think it looks good, and the articulation seems decent... but that's about where it ends for me.
I was keen to get a copy (probably the toy version since it looks a bit more interesting), but after seeing the numerous QC issues (such as how rotating the shoulders backwards unscrews them) and the horrendous transformation, I'm convinced both that Keith is utterly sadistic and that I have no interest in buying this figure.
It's a shame - I think it's a visual improvement over MP-22, but I'd take Takara's offering any day simply because it's not Hell on Earth. And just to be clear, I passed on Takara's version (and the improved KO) as well.
Another X-Trash-Bots Masterpiece of overpriced trash! Well done Keith. Not even a prominently placed fake green FT Quality Control sticker will help. Sad.

I still think XTB should refrain from tackling big bots. Their smaller sized figures are usually decent while the larger ones are finicky.
Or they should do movie figures their engineering (exploding into tiny pieces) do fit with movie transformation philosophy

I think anyone buying this is doing so to display an as close as toon as possible Magnus. That transformation though ... Mines never getting transformed! I'll have the Takara for that lol

Dang, I'm early.
Since it has swap out faces I wish they had options without the giant eyes, I don't believe I've liked them on any figure.
When I first saw the transformation in a stop motion video I thought it could be an interesting transformation, but naturally XTB did what XTB does and made it as unfun as possible. Fortunately I had seen enough to determine I didn't like it and cancelled my preorder even before FT announced theirs. I feel I have been proven more and more correct in that choice as time has gone on.
