- I created a program which allows the Thumby to play Gameboy games. There are two versions of this program, one in Python and one in JavaScript.

I just got mine yesterday. This is so dumb that it's amazing
I have one I got it today
@@DarkLightO1 I really need to take a look at mine again

@@ghjgjgjttytttt Google Thumby
thats neat but isnt this just functionally playing the game with a worse screen and smaller controls? If you could take it on the go, that'd be a different story, but this seems to just be using the thumby as a monitor more or less.
It's cool
ironically, it has a better screen
@@therolyn_herolyn you mean besides the decreases in size and color output?
I would love to see a new speed run category for first gen Pokemon games called thumby% where you use this setup. Would be a really cruel test of will power to see if you could do an entire run basically blind with buttons smaller than my will to live.
K lets se wat i kan do
Have you considered flickering the display colors for interpolation of colors? Have one black and gray data table, and one all black data table and swap between them each frame?
Also what would stop you from porting the game vs emulatiing? Trying to match up cpu functions is a simple challenge and there might even be programs out there to rip such source code.
@@Mentalbox52 the screen resolution would still make that impossible
This is so cool!!! Could you replace the Computer with an Arduino or Raspi or something to have a more 'portable' version of this setup? Just let me know, thanks!
-Tyler
It wouldn't be hard at all. You can run either the python or javascript versions (you could download the JS version from the website for offline use) on any computer basically.
@@InkboxSoftware they have recently added a new greyscale api!!!
Pushing up and down at the same time is not possible on a dpad as the entire pad is a lever.
WHAT A DUDE!
This is crazy man!
The picture and framerate are so mashed haha
Super cool you still got it working though
Subbed.
Thanks, I appreciate the support
Just got my Thumby. I'm playing with this right now, nice work dude.
i’m leaving this comment on my thumby
Same here
@@thegarf5677you can play RUclips videos on it?
@@se7encapadonhe is joking lol
@@pegece oh ok lol
But can it run DOOM?
Sort of. Check "Thoom"
Is it possible to flicker the screen to give shades of grey? Works on the Arduboy, although that's LCD and is the Thumby an OLED? Even so, with the right timing you might get it.
yes it is. Several of the games made by some talented people utilize this. It requires the user to do a little "calibration" though.
Maybe this is a dumb question, but how do u press Up and Down at the same time
Никак
Just got mine in the mail lol. So cool!!!
So I remember watching this video when you first posted it. Is it possible with the programming they have to make the thumby shown up as an x-input device with a game?
Hey! Do you think you'll make an updated version for the Thumby Color?
Bro can just plz give download link to download that Pokemon games bcoz I didn't want to do programming 😅 plz sir
Quick question- do you have a beginners guide on doing anything with the thumby using the serial library? such as displaying graphics, playing noises, etc. I mean serial, not micropython.
No, what I did was read the code from the online editor as it uses serial to communicate with the device
@@InkboxSoftware oh ok, thx!!
could you make a port of pokemon tho
Can you save on this "emulator"? Or is there no save function?
Do you think you’ll ever manage to port games like Mario land 2?
After a certain point, it might be easier to just write a game that's a total rip off of pokémon and then to port it to this device.
How do you add the pokemon game permanently in Thumby?
this is awesome, thank you!
I can't get the code to work even after deleting all the games
Hard to actually play, But fun and cool!!
cheating
Likely no one would do that. *some random guy who likes a challenge. And 4 monsters*
This is hilarious.

Bro I have program a game on this tomorrow in programming lol
What kind of witchcraft is that how did you get pokemon on there
The true game boy micro.
Game Boy Pico/Nano?
Some madlad got it to run doom
You should call it "ThumBoy"
where to download
what do I put in the file port
Where do you download the emulator games from?

Now try doom.
thank youuu subbed

Do you think its posible to recreat a tomagotchi program for the thumby its been on my mind lately, since its the only "game" i feel could go on it other then the basics like pong and tetris
Yeah it wouldn't be hard at all. With micropython and the thumby ide website it would be really easy to put together.
There is a tamagotchi style game already simply called "VirtualPet"
it was made even before I came across the thumby to begin with
So cool !!
do you think you could make it so it doesnt take up the whole screen and only makes a square so it isnt so squished? or does the thumby lack thr pixels for that?
The resolution on the thumby is smaller than a gameboy, so with my program in the video I have to scale it down to fit. I could have resized the screen proportionally to the original resolution of a gameboy and had nearly a square as you've said, but I went with an unproportional resizing to both use the full thumby screen and not scale down as much.
There's a trick to show more colors on the slow display, so that might help it look a bit better.
Can you add Storage to it.
Let me know Thanks.
Depends on the save size and it's read write access if anything, and plus there's only like 6mb on the thing.
@@notsa_sactually 2mb
send me one too please
thanks for the clickbait
👍
Bro you don't even tell us how to play Pokemon on the thumby
misleading thumbnail, not cool
