As a developer, the thumby really excites me - I’d love to make some kind of mini music sequencer! Also, the USB port could be used for all sorts of stuff… WiFi-enabled thumby, anyone?
One idea I just had was like a dock to let you use a slightly bigger controller. That would be cool, if you could just slot it in, to give up some smallness for actual comfortable controls. Maybe even make it have a flap with a magnifying glass like those gameboy peripherals.
@@Yipper64 I’d say a multi-function dock. It houses the WiFi (maybe for updates or downloading new apps) and Bluetooth (for controller support) and maybe even a video out…I know..it’s a novelty thing, and shouldn’t expect a ton out of it..still a neat little thing. 😀
this thing is pretty neat, I was half expecting it to be able to run actual GameBoy games when you said the processor was a beast compared to the original console. from the games that are aready on there, I'd say a flappy bird clone would be a decent fit. Even tho it's not really a game, I could probably port Conway's Game of Life on there, but the canevas is so tiny I don't think it'd be worth it, I'd still try it most likely, it would be my 8th re-implementation I think.
Someone actually got gameboy games to *play* on the thumby. Emphasis on the word "play" and not "run". The games aren't actually being ran on the thumby, they're being emulated on a computer, scaled down, and sent to the thumby via OTG. It's hardly playable, but it's a pretty cool concept.
Dang, I don't even develop games/emulator, but when you mentioned micropython and the online IDE it really made interested to develop something for this monstrosity.
Great video! I have a full set of the Tiny Arcade devices and there is just something cool about tiny versions that actually look pretty close to the real thing, even if hard to play. Would be cool if you could plug a controller into it, ridiculous but would be interesting to see. Lots of Gameboy demakes would be neat to see.
Honestly, I want to see how many "demakes" of original DMG games we can get. I'd love to see a basic RPG Like Dragon warrior/Dragon Quest. Question though, is there a file size limit per game? as in are games limited to 4-8 kb or is it limited only by the amount of onboard storage?
Thumby kinda reminds me of the old Digimon/Tamagotchi electronics. It's probably a great idea to develop a similar game since the Thumby has multiplayer.
The Tiny Circuits game library actually has a Digimon clone called Tiny Monster Trainer, which you can play in dual-player mode using 2 Thumby's and a link cable to connect them. That'll allow you to train your "Digimon" monster and then battle someone else's monster they trained on their own Thumby... If you wanted to!
I'm following your stuff since I saw the Xbox Mod video, and since then I have been watched all of your videos! Love the way you talk about all the retro stuff you review, it's clear, simple and pleasant to watch. I can clearly see how much love and passion you put in every single console you make videos on. I rediscovered a true passion about the retro gaming itself, especially about the DMG. Keep on doing that, in the way you're doing it. Greetings from Italy, Tito! 🇮🇹🤙🏼
This is by far the best Thumby review I've seen, good work. As someone else commented, I'm also excited because I'm a developer and I'd like to create my own game. I'd also would like to see other devs creating tools or some other apps to ease creating more games. I'd also want to be part of the gift dynamic. Greetings
I wish it was 10% bigger, had USB type C (on the top so it looks like the cartridge slot) and had a better build quality. In that case I wouldn't mind paying 50 bucks for it.
I see you’ve played Gris I’m glad people are trying it, it’s an amazingly beautiful game I’m in love with it. I’m a simple man I’d like to see good ol pong on it. I think it would work fairly well, support 2 players, and is easy for anyone to understand so it’s a solid pick for all. Look forward to seeing what the next videos about. Take care!
Thanks for another great video showcasing a quirky little piece of hardware. It was interesting to watch, and while I would probably only use something like this as a keychain novelty, I am excited to see what people come up with for it!
I’d love to see an attempt at putting an FPS or flight sim on the Thumby, or maybe the world’s least visible visual novel. Thumbgeon looks like it’s probably a Thumby version of Rogue or Nethack.
@@MachoNachoProductions Have you ever played Nethack? From the brief glance in the video it seemed like they were going for that sort of concept. And that's one of those games where either you love it (or at least get it) or you extremely don't. But at least having familiarity with Nethack might help to figure Thumgeon out. Not sure it'd be worth the effort though. :)
I'd like to see the classic card game "high-low" developed for the Thumby: - Starting with a standard deck of cards, you draw a card, then guess if the next card will be higher or lower. You get a point if you're right, game over if you're wrong, and no point if it's a tie (but no game over either). Aces would be low (i.e. equal to 1). - When you guess right, your current card is discarded, and the card just drawn is your next starting card to guess against. - Every time you clear a full deck of cards, the deck is shuffled and you go again, but this time you get another point per right answer in the next round: 2 points per right guess in round 2, 3 points per right guess in round 3, and so on. - It would be a simple, arcade-style high score challenge type of game. Controls would be simple: Up to guess Higher Down to guess Lower Either face button to pause Menus would be simple, too: Main menu: start/exit app Game Over menu: restart/exit app Pause menu: resume play/start over/exit app
Another great video, thanks Tito! I'd love to see a teeny tiny port of Mario, even if it was just the first iconic level. It'd be insanely small and near impossible to play but it'd be fun!
Even though I have notifications set to "ON" for "ALL" I still didn't get a notification for this channel for the last 3 weeks and had to look it up when remembering something random and it made me think of the channel
I'm impressed how this is able to exist in the first place, external connector, battery, screen, processor and memory... not to mention the thickness of the case that also occupies some internal space in there. About the game I want to see, maybe some racing game should be challenging from a technical point of view. Definitely doable, but certainly challenging to do something "playable" like these other games
Very Nice it would be awesome a port of DOOM will run on anything even on thunby, seriously it would be nicer if the audio was kind of high-pitched as a joke because of the tiny size lol

Truly my favourite thing about this is the scale and knowing how hard it is to design, redesign x10 and bring to production something like this, it makes my inner child happy! I hope they get a more square screen and USB-C instead of micro I'd buy a good few of them as pokemon keyrings for my kids, guarantee they'd never lose the keys again! 👍
Fun-fact: annelids are segmented worms. I want to see a minigame collection Warioware style. I think the limited capabilities of the thumby make it perfect for showcasing short, creative ideas.

I've collected the whole range and I've found that some of the older arcade games lend themselves really fairly well to these smaller consoles. I think ports of Pac-Man, Galaga, Space Invaders and Frogger could all work well for this type of control scheme. The only issue might be screen size.
This is a really cool piece of nostalgic looking technology. For something like this of this size, I think a simple game of Pong could be useful and kind of fun. Either way it's a cool piece of tech.
I haven't heard too much in depth info until now, but I really wonder if other USB capabilities will be added down the line, because just by itself this is a great way to work on tiny projects!
I'm wondering if there's some kind of work around with it being monochromatic such as flickering pixels at different intervals in order to achieve the appearance of different greys
This right here is an awesome gadget! As a programmer myself, I'd love to play with it. With this being such a tiny device, I think that games that could really work are reaction-based ones with very simple controls like the dinosaur running one that comes preloaded.
