Alarak controls the Tal'darim army. He specializes in getting extremely powerful armies, as his Supplicants sacrifice themselves for the Highlord. He can also control the Deathfleet.
Captured from Gamescom, where Alarak got announced. He will be introduced shortly in StarCraft 2 as the new co-op commander.

Alarak, the best Protoss Highlord. The only character that bears any semblance to how the protoss were depicted in Starcraft 1 and Brood War, Xenophobic and Superior but still Pragmatic.
***** True. I hope he makes the Protoss the villains in Starcraft 3. And the Terran have to survive both them and a violent Zerg after the Protoss destroy Zerus and all Zerg leadership on the first campaign, forcing them to spawn a new Cerebrate to survive.
I feel like it's more likely they are setting up some kind of MMO. Tal'Darim Protoss, and Terrans addicted to Terrazine will be their own faction. UED will probably show back up too.
The change for the protoss' xenophobia and superiority complex is the destruction of the conclave.

Th3Sh1n1gam1 They can always go back. The lofty and arrogant protoss were the best.
Ascendants being OP makes sense. They're the top 10 strongest Tal'darim after the high lord and they can be challenged by any other Tal'darim through Rak Shir for their position. That could be a cool way to balance them too, limiting the amount to the amount of ascendants there actually are and it would fit with the lore.
Instead of death council would be funny to be "rage council"
Probably didn't want to tug something close to The Red Lanterns. Their theme is rage, after all.

i cant wait for alarak to come out! the sacrifice ability is soooo cool....especially with the ascendants who once they sacrifice enough people, turn into archon type units! and they get a permanent shield + HP buff! defiantly worth 5$, hell i would pay 15$ for something that cool!

It seems we will have an ever more OP commander than Vorazun. It seems like it will be possible to solo brutal mutations with him.
Just because this guy was super excite of winning vs casual witch btw is like playing vs potato dose not mean he is an OP commander 200 dmg is not that " OMG WOW LOOK AT THAT DMG " as he describe it and from what i have seen so far Alarak AA is kinda mediocre, and we all know on brutal AI sends some crazy Air u`r way.
That wave Alarak has targets air units too, though. Still think it will be really useful.
Once you get an Ascendant up to their highest level with power overwhelming, isn't that Psi-Orb now doing 70 damage per second? And that Mind Blast is now doing 700 damage? With the Ascendant also having more shields than a Brutalisk has health?
I'm pretty sure you have way more than enough DPS to kill down some of the more spammy air waves with a few psi orbs, and seeing that supplicants give your ascendants literally infinite energy and Psi-orb has no cooldown, he should be able to deal with it fine.
The more edgy Protoss become the more powerful apparently.
You'll be able to dominate your enemies with dark energy, and ascend, just for 5 dollars :) blizzard in a nuttshell

Oh my god power overwhelming is so OP. Us sacrifice repeatedly on the supplicants. They're basically cannon fodder.

Alarak has the best attitude, and his in-game voice ought to reflect that. Hoping to see this hero on brutal, mutations.

Interesting that Blizzard is finally allowing players to play as the Tal' Dazeem. Not to mention the fact that the units in that faction functions completely different from regular Protoss units.

Vorazun actually has no problem dealing with that after lvl 30 mastery. You can instantly spawn DTs and you clear everything before you even get your first pylon .... Just a minor annoyance I guess.
It's ment to force choice and CD times. Commanders who mined gas with no miners had a major jump into there later tech once their mineral intake caught up. Yes you'll DT them down early but you're out a CD at the beginning of the game if you choose to do this. It's not super major but i commend blizzard for trying, lol.
Nope. Once you reach level 51, you can call down Shadow Guard immediately, and have it available again for the first wave, except literally only on Rifts to Korhal.
Actually...If you spawn them instantly... you get them again by the time the first attack hits.

I played the free version of sc2, Alarak was the only thing i ever bought for the game, and i loved him so much i never used another commander. Ive never had so much fun in a SC game.

oh shit I just realized how op it will be with arthanis emergency shield for his supplicant he will drunk one by one in fevor of fight and be able to maintain buff from all of them

I wish they'd add this as a skin for protoss in the regular game.
Good video! But I have to point out that the Co-op mineral fields have 7 crystals, so it takes 14 workers to fully saturate the mineral line, not 21 (kind of like how in HotS the mineral line would read x/24, but in LotV it got changed to x/16).
I'm really wondering about that, because the reason the number drop was because the multiplayer mineral patches all got lowered resources. But coop ones retain the high resource amount. So, I really dont know. Plus its good to have a little more than 16, because the players always harass the mineral lines.
If I remember correctly, they reduced the mineral count and increased starting workers to make games more fast paced and to encourage players to expand more
I hope blizzard adds skins for multiplayer. If balance is and issue (cant see units etc) it could even work the same way as colours where you choose your skins AND your opponent's skins. It just gives people more of an incentive to play SC2. Imagine a skin for Terran where everything is infested or even Narazim protoss. Blizzard needs to add this into the game.

If he didn't know what it did, he could have said "I don't know what this does, but lets find out" and if he actually did know, he could actually say what it is/does. Something like "its a combination of the taldarim mothership and destroyers (which are voidrays with a bouncy chainy laser attack thing". Rather than give vague 'fluffy' descriptions that could be in reference to almost anything in coop (on the other hand, his description of ascendants was spot on.)
Maybe he was just trying to build hype, idk but I wanted to watch not for hype but for details since blizzard feeds out hype like babyfood on a regular basis.
i think he will be my second favourite commander.

Or Nova. Maybe give her a unit that stealths all units in an area of effect.
It's Nova, she is ready but Blizzard probably don't want to spoil the new tech from the map pack 3 before it come out.

Almost all commanders are extremely easy to win with if you're the least bit skilled with macro and build orders.

Man watching reminds me of Warcraft 3, how cool would it be if starcraft implement the hero system into the game, would help so much with rushes if you had a hero already out

as a Kerrigan player, i can say the queen of blades is the second fastest to destroy the rocks (;

I would these commanders to come out in future (will be editing for Reddit)
Terran:
Valerian with a completely royal skinned army or something, his abilities being the Xel Naga artifact possibly, and a completely new ship different to Battlecruisers/ Hyperion controlled by Valerian possibly.
Mira Han with Mercenaries obviously having their own custom pink skin (like Mira hair) and tribal graffiti or something on them. She could have own slightly different mechanical units seeing as that's kinda her thing. Her abilities could be something to do with Mines and Mercs different from in WOL.
Nova with her custom units and skin from her dlc missions. With her abilities being some kind of Nuke or bomb, and some kind of gadget we haven't seen yet. She could also be a hero unit.
Protoss:
Most of the main ones have been taken I guess
They could bring back Zeratul although I don't know because we already have Vorazun now which basically replaced him.
He could be a hero unit with his ship landing at the beginning of the game. He could have alternative units to Vorazun with a differnet spins to compliment his abilities, which could similar to in Heroes of the Storm (Void Prison, aoe slash etc).
Selendis which have a wide range of air fleet units as she is the commander of the Protoss Golden Armada. She could have vastly differnet alternatives to normal Protoss air units aswell as having air units which serve similar functions to what a normal Protoss army would e.g. (A ship that provides an additional shield which tanks like a Sentry/ Zealot does).
Tassadar, although I think this again is a stretch.
Zerg:
The Overmind could be a hero unit in the way that he replaces what would be your main Hatchery and you are instantly granted access to all Zerg units but still need the economy to build them (could still need to tech building if too OP). His other abilities could be that he instantly has his tentacles on show from the start of the match providing defense or something which expand to every hatchery you create, allowing the player to get more techy units earlier on and possibly want to create hatcheries as offense. Lastly, he could also have the option to choose from unique ability strains for each Zerg Unit. This would allow every game as the Overmind to be more unique as each strain would give different advantages.
(If the Overmind/ main hatchery is killed, your units lose control as in the story/ books and start killing eachother, your teammate and the enemy at random)
Dehaka could be the exclusively primal Zerg, being a hero unit more tanky abilities or something as in HOTS, while also having a Primal Zerg skin. This would mean bringing all Primal units from Heart of the Swarm and possibly changing them to be more interesting.
Alexei Stukov who would be a hero unit, and would control an army of infested units, such as the infested Marine, Infested Terran, and more that they would create from existing Terran and Protoss units with changed abilities etc and possibly some brand new ones.
(Just ideas)

The only thing with Alarak is the build up time :( Ascendants are so good but they struggle to be relevant if you don't have really high APM and great unit management. His core army besides that just isn't as good, thus he isn't played nearly as much as some of his peers.
Did you play alarak in heroes at all while you were there?

Is it me or the series of nerfs on the existing Commanders (Raynor/Vorazun in particular) over the past few patches was intended - for Blizzard to sell the more "OP" DLC Commanders like Abathur and Alarak.
Vorazun is still the most OP. Abathur kinda is but not really.

In the religion of the taldarim, the highlord is said to be the closest to god and/or is chosen or has a direct connection to god.
The highlord is not just the political epidrom of the Taldarim society, he is also saint and if you know the religion of humans, even saints are worshipped.^^
Their belief is to get closer to perfection (ascend) by worshipping the highlord and smoking their "breath of creation" (terrazin).
