Love or hate Motorhead, you can't deny that Lemmy was one hell of a Lyricist. Been a great fan of his profound and poignant lyrics ever since I first heard "Orgasmatron". An expected HUMAN reaction - no shame. Cheers!
see the moment they pause im off ,pausing this is like saying , Hey Adolf can you pause m8 please were having fairy cakes , all for ad revenue :/ disgusting really
No, love Motörhead, every song has a story and every one of them is expressed truth. Also, I mean... It's Motörhead, if you don't like it, you're a bad person.
Lemmy was a very deep man, a hellraiser yes, but also a very intelligent and insightful person - and extremely knowledgeable about history and in particular military history. He was a great man and hugely missed. Thanks for this beautiful reaction guys, you really feel it as Lem hoped people would. Just a thought about the way times change, it all seems to be cyclic to me - tough times create tough people who create good times, which create weak people, which create tough times etc etc etc. Then again, what do I know? 🤔
Thank you for such an honest and emotional reaction. Lemmy sang this with such heart. Anyone who can't feel this song deep inside them, has lost some of their humanity.
Another good reason never judge a book by its cover one of their greatest songs ever by one of the greatest metal band ever. I was fortune enough to see them twice.Thank you great choice!!
Sabaton released video and lyric video of their cover of 1916 today April 14,2023 and may be even more emotional. I like how in the official video they referenced Motorhead and Lemmy.
This is a completly different side of Motörhead, and it really, really shows that Lemmy Kilmister was very intelligent and educated beside that badass rocker we're used to see. Mickey Dee, their drummer once said about Lemmy that he could chat with anyone. It didnt matter, he could converse with the Pope as good as other metal musicians. Lemmy was a interesting man, and one of a kind. Rip mr Kilmister.
Sabaton has recently dropped their cover version of this and the song and video equally as hard hitting but video also pay homage to Lemmy and Motorhead.
I have been a lifelong Motorhead fan and bought this album when it came out. I have listened to this song more times than I can possibly count, and although it has always affected me, it has never hit me so hard as it did watching how you two reacted to it. You both took all your defences down and let the song go right into your hearts. Thank you so much for showing this song the respect it deserves. I was crying right along with you!
Lemmy was a very underrated lyricist. His lines seem simple, but that's because they are direct. He doesn't use fancier words just to sound smarter. He's very good at choosing his words. And in his lyrics, you'll find history, philosophy, an anti-authoritarian streak, a rebellious attitude, a party attitude, and dozens of other things all mixed up in his songs. I recommend you keep going with Motörhead!
it will always boggle my mind why any human would willingly lay down his life for an absolute stranger. knowing he will never be thanked or honored by those he is willing to lay down his life. I still look back and ask myself why did I decide to serve. I still really don't have an answer. but am very proud I did.l people are very different then our grandparents and great grandparents. but I truly believe that there are still some around that would do the same if called upon.
Great, but this is Lemmy and this is Motörhead and anyone who says that there is anything better can go away. I like Sabaton, but Motörhead is in a completely different league.
There were actually ballads in Motörhead shows - or one ballad, to be exact. They played Love Me Forever live on their 1916 tour. That song was also something quite unexpected and came from the same album. In hindsight it's pretty easy to see that 1916 was musically a much more diverse and bold effort that the band's previous offerings - all of them also brilliant in their own way.
To laugh is too easy at times...to show joy or happiness...we all want to show those emotions...to show tears distress, something that makes us question stuff....awesome reaction vid...
Beautiful reaction, you guys, thank you! ❤ "I don't believe a word" is another great song if you are up for more Motörhead. Also "The chase is better than the catch" and "Killed by death". 😎
I think that might be a perfect reaction to a song It's not an easy listen & it was something I never expected to hear from Motorhead good on both of you
Sometimes, just sometimes, a reaction does not need any words - your expressions say far, far, more than any words can. Lemmy was consummately adept at 'kicking you where it hurts' with just a few well-chosen lyrics. Another song of his on an equally difficult subject is "Don't Let Daddy Kiss Me".
I absolutely love the way you react and show your compassion and empathy ❤️. This is a beautiful song written after Lemmy learned about the battle of Somme. A few days ago, Sabaton released a cover of this. You might want to see that, even though the song def isn't easier to listen to in their version of it.
This is one of the greatest Metal songs of all time! Lemmy really did wonderful work here. Now that you have heard this, now you need to see Sabaton's cover of this song that just came out today. Members of Motorhead are in the music video. This one will really move you and I would have to say it is probably the best song ever from Sabaton. Yes, I cried too. Love you, guys.
When the Empire calls and ya mates are going...who wouldn't sign up for an adventure? New respect to Mororhead....and a guy willing to share his emotions...it's all good...
And what a bloody and terrible adventure it was. Thrown into the fire. For the empire? Hm. I don't know. I'd like to think they went to fight for freedom and against terror and oppression. They died a horrible death within minutes, shot down like flies. For a land fit for heroes? Well... For an Irishman the year 1916 has also another meaning. It's the year of the Easter rising. But nonetheless Lemmy's lyrics are wonderful and I tip my hat to those young British soldiers who died at the Somme in France. And that's coming from an Irishman. Peace.
@@herbertwest9626 Very true mate, I can't disagree that many would've gone to fight for freedom or that they didn't only go for adventure. The reasons for volunteering would be as varied as the nation's that took part.
Lemmy and Motorhead are such legends that led the way for a lot of rock bands. Even icons like Metallica look up to Motorhead and say they influenced them.
Motörhead made it all Rock, punk, punkrock, Ballads, blues.... you name it theu did it. Lemmy to me was a role model. he was a badass whiskydrinking marlborosmoking motherf*cker with a heart. This is not your typical Motorhead song, it is actually more in the vein of Sabaton, tearing at your heart with the sacrifices soldiers make. Wonderfully written, it cuts to the heart of what soldiers in WW1 felt; they were fighting for their country, for the thrill, and for the experience of war, ignorant of what they were getting into. And I agree with your comments about youth; in WW1 thought they were fighting to end all wars; in WW2 youth fought to save democracy. What are today's youth willing to fight for? great reaction, you expressed what we are all feeling. Stay safe, God Bless.
@@elifighter Sabaton does an awesome job, definitely much more of a tribute to Lemmy than just a cover. I feel they perfectly reflected what Lemmy was saying in the original.

The 16 year olds weren't old enough. That's why they added 2 years. 18 years old was the legal age for enlisting, at least it was here in the UK. I'd assume Lemmy wrote the song in homage to British soldiers.
Another hard hitting song that Lemmy wrote was Don't let daddy kiss me, it is not an easy song to listen to even after its release over 30 years ago but it is an essential song to listen to.
Lemmy was a genius writing this song. There is no other song that captures this emotions about the slaughtering machine these young kids were thrown into in WW1.

1916 by Motörhead is a great song. Today the swedish metal band Sabaton released the official music video of "1916" which is an amazing Motörhead cover of this song. Would be great if you could check this out.
"Because it's always the same. When you fire the first shot, no matter how right you feel, you have no idea who's going to die. You don't know whose children are going to scream and burn. How many hearts will be broken. How many lives shattered. How much blood will spill... before everybody does what they were ALWAYS going to have to do from the very beginning: SIT. DOWN. AND. TALK."
Amphetamine-fueled, sex and Rock and Roll of Motörhead, then Lemmy comes out with THIS. Lemmy was a man of Depth, and will be sorely missed. Don’t be ashamed, this song breaks me everytime I hear it.
Just to keep you off balance may I suggest that you listen to, "Please Don't Let Daddy Kiss Me (Goodnight)" off of Motörhead's "Bastards" album. Many have a very one dimensional view of Motörhead, thinking of all of their full on rock 'n' roll songs but Lemmy was a much broader lyricist than he gets credit for. Also check out the official video for "I'm Not A Nice Guy" which features Ozzy Osbourne.
Any chance you'll give Sabaton's rendition that just came out of the song, I find it much different and more listenable compared to the original and the music video is extremely well done
Don't be ashamed of your emotions, my friends. Don't be sorry. It's a human reaction. Lemmy wrote these lyrics about young British soldiers in WW1 who were sent to France to fight against the Germans. The expression "the Huns" in the lyrics doesn't refer to the real Huns or even Hungarians as some might think. It was a British term for the German soldiers coming from the east invading France and forcing Britain and others into that war. WW1 was seen as probably the most brutal war on European soil in the 20th century. The casualties in WW2 of course exceed in numbers, but the way of fighting was much more rudementary compared with WW2, which was more technical in a military way. What he's describing is the battle at the Somme in eastern France, one of the bloodiest battles in WW1. On one day thousands of British soldiers were killed by Germans in a hail of bullets. They were thrown into this fight unfit and were killed like flies. A terrible loss for the allies and for Britain. Many thousands in one day! Partly due to the incompetence of the British military leaders. And there's the phrase "they were lions (the soldiers) led by donkeys (the generals)" used after the war. Horrible. Lemmy was a well read and intelligent man beside all the rock'n'roll lifestyle and the image people have of him. And as you so wisely said, this song should be printed in schoolbooks for younger generations to learn. If they can. But I doubt it. We (mankind) will never learn. WAR IS HELL! Thank you for your heartfelt and honest reaction.
As I have already said I sincerely think that Lemmy had rock in his blood and was a very great artist that I admire him a lot for that....But he had a boundless admiration for military costumes and while having clearly said that he did not share the ideas of adoplhe Hitler...he did not hesitate to have his photograph taken in SS uniform skull "...it's easy to find on the net...it's not fake news, so excuse me...but for that day he had put his intelligence in his pocket...this photo is simply quite unbearable... I apologize for having bothered you, but the truth has rights!
@@BILIL1 You don't bother me and it's true he was wearing this shit. I think it was part admiration for the uniforms and part provocation. He was definitely not a Nazi. Remember the Sex Pistols having swastikas on their sleeves? It was pure provocation, but nobody cared, because it all had the blessing of Vivian Westwood who dressed up that silly boygroup. Lemmy was an intelligent man regardless of that stupid provocation of his. And honestly, I think that's a typical British thing, taking the "enemy's" uniforms and signs and buttons and saying hey look, you destroyed our country and still we won. It's like showing the finger to those "enemies", making fun of them and at the same time saying fk u to the mainstream and all the conservatives. By the way, you picked one single word from my comment to tell me your story about that Nazi shit, but ignored all the rest I wrote. And no, you don't bother me, but it's a bit rude nonetheless.
Just think entire towns lost all of their teenage and adult men in a short amoint of time. Just 6 miles of land. The biggest crime their was officers still looking for glory all the way up till the final hours of WW1. Just imagine how many more would have survived had they just sat and waited for the truce go into effect.
I've never been so close to truth as then I touched its silver lining Death is the winner in any war Nothing noble in dying for your religion For your country For ideology, for faith For another man, yes "Nightwish - Song of Myself (outro - studio version)"

And as you so wisely said, this song should be printed in schoolbooks for younger generations to learn. If they can. But I doubt it. We (mankind) will never learn. WAR IS HELL! Thank you for your heartfelt and honest reaction.
As I have already said I sincerely think that Lemmy had rock in his blood and was a very great artist that I admire him a lot for that....But he had a boundless admiration for military costumes and while having clearly said that he did not share the ideas of adoplhe Hitler...he did not hesitate to have his photograph taken in SS uniform
skull "...it's easy to find on the net...it's not fake news, so excuse me...but for that day he had put his intelligence in his pocket...this photo is simply quite unbearable...
Just imagine how many more would have survived had they just sat and waited for the truce go into effect.
lemmy was a dead set rock poet!!!.....you should watch the movie lemmy ..a great film
I've never been so close to truth as then
I touched its silver lining
Death is the winner in any war
Nothing noble in dying for your religion
For your country
For ideology, for faith
For another man, yes
