They're both super flagship synths, whatever you chose of these, you'll basically be able to do the same on them. I chosed the Yamaha Montage because I read tons of user reviews of all 3 super synths, Korg Kronos 2, Montage and Fantom. Kronos and Fantom are both super capable synths, but are prone to system crashes and lockups, plus the kronos take a whopping 2 minutes to boot, like a PC sort of. I like my keyboards ready-to-go + pc/crash free - so the Montage was a natural choice as there are zero reported crashes. There's even a sequencer in it now, so it's now a workstation too. Whatever you end up choosing, you'll be super happy with anyone of these, they're not merely expensive toys - they have insane capabilites to entertain you for the rest of your life.
Thats the one thing I hate about Kronos. It takes FOREVER to boot up. Geez Louis

As of June 2020. I was able to demo'd both the Montage and Fantom. I had read many poor reviews on the Fantom crashing and locking up pre firmware 1.6. However when it came down to model features and capabilities I found the Fantom did just a bit more with better feeling keys, drum pads, TR-Rec mode, better sampling and just more aesthetically pleasing for me to look at. I purchased the 88 key Fantom 8 and installed firmware 1.6 and haven't had a single issue with the keyboard so far. Bootup is within less of a minute and Roland has already released over a dozen new expansions for the Fantom lineup with many more coming in the future. Just my two cents on the two.
I concur ! I actually had the pleasure of testing all 3 ; (kronos, montage and fantom) at the same time and place ; I’ve been a yamaha and Nord only guy for a while and I have to say the Roland is easy on the eyes and the sounds are just as useful for every scenario I could think of … nothing about it was a let down and I found myself drawn to the Keybed as well ; it felt right .
Montage pianos sound more authentic and real!
Yamaha Montage has more natural feel in the tones while Roland Fantom has techno and more punchy.
Just bought a Roland Fantom 7! It Came yesterday! Spent a lot of time reviewing them all for years....I even bought a kronos and Pa4x in 2018......I have a feeling that I might end up liking the Fantom very well.......great for live arrangements and composing on the fly on the videos..... I certainly will find out soon!!!
Montage is so obviously lower in volume, which makes it sound thinner. Having both synths at the same volume is essential to making a fair comparison.
Agree - the volume difference was significant.

Both great but overall prefer the Fantom sound, the Yamaha lacks mid range punch on some sounds, particularly synth leads.
I want Yamaha sound in the Roland operating system
Both are pretty awesome! I prefer the roland fantom because of how easy it is to layer, make and tweak your own sounds. Yes, you can do this on the montage as well and you can also use it as a workstation just like you can on the fantom, however, the roland fantom is considerably cheaper by about $1000 to $1200 depending on where you shop. In addition, I think for the price of the fantom and the sound engines you get coming out of the box and the ease of use is stellar by comparison in every situation that I would want to use a keyboard in a side by side comparison.
THE Fanton sounded Fuller both sounded super I WANT BOTH

Is there any other flagship / workstation that can chop samples besides the Roland Phantom 7 that I have. If so I would like to see that synthesizer video. And I'm not talking about the new Akai.
Roland Fantom è uno strumento appena nato, Montage ha già qualche anno sulle spalle, Fantom è al livello di Montage e ancora aspetta una montagna di aggiornamenti e altro in termini di materiali sonori. Invece di confrontarli sarebbe bello vedere cosa possono fare insieme.

sorry unfortunately it's been too long since we made this video, it is definitely one of the first presets
you volume balance is weird. the Yamaha is more silent in this video, therefor it's a bit unfair towards the Yamaha. More silent, is less pleasant when hearing a more loud sound (roland) in contrast (more volume is more dynamics). Also it seems there is some sort of bass boost on the roland audio. And lastly, you play the Roland more often/longer than the yamaha, so it appears you like that one a lot more.
Yes but yamaha montage is sampler - i can create my own library of instruments - and internal waveforms are for colouring and fmx too - try to create synth library
You can load sample sets onto the fantom, though
I guess the Fantom is a sampler too...

Synth Cloud you should have the settings basically the same,most people who watch this will be doing a comparison,otherwise,what’s the point.
@@synthcloud Thats understandable,but a bit of every section with comparing would be much much better. (Synth sections of both are strongest points, and the weakest Organs etc.) From 10 seconds played on this video i reckon organs better on Roland.

Great but not worth the price
No tonewheel engine on either🤦♂️. Pianos & EP’s use too many parts on Montage.
Their are single part pianos. Acoustic and electric. With 8 part you Can drive with the keyboard and 8 parts you can drive with the sequencer.
Roland Fantom has a higher volume
Los pianos acusticos roland son mas reales pero delgaditos. Y yamaha mas gruesos pero mas sinteticos. En fin los dos son buenas maquinas.
De hecho no. Los roland usan modeling engine. Lo cual significa que es un sonido generado por computadora. Y los yamaha son sampleados. Fueron grabados de pianos reales. El sonido del piano del roland a mi parecer suena muy bien.

@@synthcloud Which would say to your ears sounds best for the main Piano sound and Wurlitzer and Rhodes Electric Piano sounds, there are no stores near me that have them on Display or in Stock,i have the Yamaha CP88.
Roland sounds more artificial and toyish, like a bad copy of Kronos. Yamaha sounds more acustic and pleasant.

Protects edges. Mine came with same yellow tape. And I left it.
