  • Two examples of overt heterospecific aggression in birds at a fall migratory stopover (Palo Alto Baylands). (1) A Northern Shoveler (Spatula clypeata) rams over a Black-necked Stilt (Himantopus mexicanus). (2) A Long-billed Dowitcher (Limnodromus scolopaceus) rams into a much larger male Blue-winged Teal (Spatula discors). In both cases the aggression is directed against a resting bird and appears to be unprovoked. In both cases the assaulted bird did not retaliate, and the neighboring resting birds scarcely reacted to the commotion. It’s not clear to me what this aggression is about. It might be related to competition for resources (food/shelter), as flocks move in and out with the changing tide. For the most part birds of the same species flock together. Could it be a territorial standoff between ducks and shorebirds?

Welcome to BIRDING VISIONS - portraits and sound recordings of birds and their habitats, sharing the sublime beauty of nature. These wildlife videos are both documentary and impressions of an experience. I hope you get a sense of being there: from the Rock Wren of Willis Creek Slot Canyon, Utah, singing Whinchat in the rugged heathland of coastal Norway, a band of Arabian Babblers in Israel, to soaring Kites over Kyoto, Japan.
The playlists are organized by geographical region and topic (singing birds, shorebirds, etc). The 200+ videos are from many different places across the globe, with a focus on birds of North America and the Western Palearctic, including Europe, Israel and Morocco. Looks like an important hotspot for migrating shorebirds. 🙂

Chciałbym. Polska jest cudowna do łowienia ptaków. Lasy są magiczne. Google translate of "Would love to. Poland is wonderful for birding. The forests are magical"
