This band has had one of the best glow ups, they went from a "simple" deathcore-ish band to a tech death metal band with such dynamics and complexity. Love em

Wow, glad to see this album get some shine. It's an incredibly overlooked album that's a masterpiece through and through. Nick's bass playing and tone is just `chefs kiss` amazing.
They released this album with practically no promotion or advertising and then maybe played a couple shows and then the band took a break for years so they never really got out and toured for this album cycle so it stayed largely unknown.

My dad majored in musical theory in college back in the 70’s and I’ve had the hardest time convincing him of the complex musicality in death metal. The death metal he was exposed to were in the early days of the genre when it wasn’t as complex as this. He made his mind up about the genre way back then (he hasn’t really kept up with the times in any other aspect of life either), so he believes this genre is nothing but a mess of crunchy noises and random riffs played at high speeds. He’s 72 years old now, so I’m not sure if there’s any hope that he’ll take to this genre any more kindly now than he did 10, 20, 30 years ago, but I’d like to think this video might change his mind. I’m gonna try to remember to show it to him next time I see him.

Another artist to check out with very busy bass parts (but super cool) is Erlend Casperson, he's a killer tech death bass player, lots of swapping between fingerstyle, slap and double thumb, lots of double stops and popped chords.

The curious thing is that outside of the undeniable heavy warwick bass sound, if you are playing metal the other way a bass can cut through a mix very clearly and really shine is ironically enough, a fretless wood fretboard bass: something about that almost singing quality to the sound really makes it almost as prominent but in the complete opposite way to the warwick sound by being strangely ethereal inside a very well, metallic, mix with highly distorted guitars and punchy drums.

However, the original bassist for First Fragment, Vincent Savary, used a 5 string Fender Jazz through a Bassman on the album Daesin. The first video you did on Forest playing Gula, that was originally recording on that 5 string Jazz. Absolutely blew my mind when he told me that.

If you ever want to go back into the 2000s nu metal reactions, I would recommend Sam Rivers from Limp Bizkit. He is so damn underrated. His basswork in Rearranged is amazing and the musicality of Limp Bizkit severely goes unnoticed because of Fred Durst lol

This sounds super fun, I’m down! Definitely another band I never really got into aside the few main hits.

@@LowEndUniversity Other songs where his basslines stand out are 'My Way', 'The One', 'Boiler' or 'The Truth'. Oh and his main choice of gear are Custom Streamers with fretmarker lights, so you know he's legit 😂

Been learning some Limp Bizkit baselines for a cover set my friends are planning on doing them, they are honestly quite subtle and very creative, Sam Rivers does a fantastic job at playing to Wes Borland while still be able to take creative liberty and switch things up. Really great bassist honestly.

Yeah I never got very into Limp Bizkit because of Fred Durst. His voice is just so annoying, among other things. But I’ve heard this same sentiment about their musicianship and I should probably give them another chance, at least to listen for what’s going on musically.

this album never got the promotion that deserved, this one was the only single and it didnt got any music video. when they were starting the tour it was instantly cancelled because the touring van got caught on fire with all their equipment inside. Album of the year and the band ended there. But Finally after 10 years they finally come back with another banher album

Really nice to hear a song in this genre with the bass so forward an in-charge. It makes a nice change, and the playing is phenomenal.
I’m sure you aren’t worried about running out of talent to showcase on this channel, but Toshiya of Dir en grey is a tremendous bassist. The 2013 version of Bottom of the Death Valley is my favourite song of all time, and showcases his bass compositions really well.
Keep rocking in the new world

Speaking of Nick, have you checked out Nuclear Power Trio, yet?
It's an instrumental prog 3 piece with some phenomenal bass playing.
Ryan's influence is certainly very prevalent there but in the context of very melodic songwriting.
And their gimmick is just fun.

Hey there, I did a video on Alex awhile back for a different band: ruclips.net/video/CwZP9kSCreo/видео.html
However, I really do want to do a Cannibal song too. I'm not super familiar with their catalogue - what song do you recommend that showcases him the best?

I don't think I have really ever heard the bass being so upfront in the mix in an extreme metal song before. Death had a few songs but when the guitars come in but that upfront is nice. The faster parts still the bass isn't as audible except for when it's filling out space.

For your viewing pleasure PLEASE check out Mike Flores from Origin. That guy is unbelievable, I saw them play live about 10 years ago and I couldn't stop watching him the whole time. You don't even have to do a reaction video, just enjoy how insane this guy is 😆
