I stayed in soi 22 in 2014 and ate at those food shops every day, so so good. Barber by the mosque does a great cut as well. Oh and the open market is an abattoir till around 6:30-7am and pristine clean before being used as a market

On Pan Road opposite soi 20 also a great road for food especially the restaurant called Krua Aroy Aroy. Very famous for their curry, Massaman and curry noodle.

I usually stayed in Furama hotel which is walking distance to the market the fruits and vegi are fresh and the food is so yummy. But now due to close down we are unable to travel to Bangkok any more once they reopened will surely visit Thailand I like your video a lot

Please do the Silom 10 Food Court in one of your future videos, I've managed to spend sometime exploring there and am curious to see what you find!
@@theroamingcook Yes and no - as a city, much has changed over the past three decades: when I first visited, lots of the traffic lights were managed manually and there was no MRT or Skytrain. But much of the character I fell in love with is still to be seen in the sois, along the klongs and in the markets. This is why I love your channel and will continue to visit Bangkok. Hopefully it won’t be too long!

I am not sure that the white powder putting in Tom Yam Goong, it is sugar or monosodium glutamate. Can tell when see clearer at the restaurant. But one thing general for Thai main dishes street food, the chefs like to use monosodium glutamate very much. We must direct to them every time if we don't need it.
Lol @ your Farang statement .. the street is busy crowded with locals then suddenly a Farang appears.. all the prices change suddenly to 10x’s the original price but as the Farang walks past each stall the ones passed revert back to the original local Thai prices 😳😂. Now that would be kewl and funny😉

That Tom Yum Gung is liiiife!! My fav! 🤩🤩I also eat the leaves and galangal. Went yesterday to yet another Thai restaurant, featuring thai extended family and all (quite lot in Berlin), but there's absolutely nothing like that. Food was rather bland to my taste. Tom Yum you don't need even to try. Buuh Thank you for the tips on the aromatics. I can find them rather frozen in the Asian supermarkets. The chili paste, tried to make once, but didn't work. You get only one brand of those here. I'll try to cook it yet again.

Hi Gary, jumped on Google. The place I'm thinking about is near there. Chong Ko on Pramuan road. Flat out with local workers at lunch time. I'm not sure what I order, I just say 'same' or Ped mak Goong kai Dow. Also there is a very good cafe near there called Bok Box, where you can get a solid latte rorn for 50 baht👍. Great video, cheers

That's how I like to eat (and cook). That's how "street" food was done back in the day. Wish I could see the labels on those sauce bottles, but I think I can find a way to get the good stuff here in the US, without the sugar and sweetness that most farangs want.
@@theroamingcook Sure. Let me know. I think the ingredients most difficult to find here are fresh lemon grass and fresh lime leaves. There are Korean and Chinese supermarkets here, but they're not alway up on their Thai selection. Might have to do the Amazon thing.

I really enjoy your channel. I like the content and presentation. It could be be better. Every time it cuts to a shot of you addressing the greater public, whilst covering your mouth with a worthless piece of black plastic, (where does plastic come from and where does it all go? 5,000,000,000 a day, how does that work in with being "green" ) my blood pressure goes up and my attention span drops. Set an example. Ditch the mask at all times while talking to the camera. Keep up the good work!

The chilly paste that she put in tomyum is the plain grade. The first grade that uses in house is Mae Pranom brand.

Yeah it’s easy if you’re not really strict. There shrimp and pork in a lot of pastes and stocks. Like my mum has no chance here 😂

That's how I like to eat (and cook). That's how "street" food was done back in the day. Wish I could see the labels on those sauce bottles, but I think I can find a way to get the good stuff here in the US, without the sugar and sweetness that most farangs want.

@@theroamingcook Sure. Let me know. I think the ingredients most difficult to find here are fresh lemon grass and fresh lime leaves. There are Korean and Chinese supermarkets here, but they're not alway up on their Thai selection. Might have to do the Amazon thing.

I really enjoy your channel. I like the content and presentation. It could be be better. Every time it cuts to a shot of you addressing the greater public, whilst covering your mouth with a worthless piece of black plastic, (where does plastic come from and where does it all go? 5,000,000,000 a day, how does that work in with being "green" ) my blood pressure goes up and my attention span drops. Set an example. Ditch the mask at all times while talking to the camera. Keep up the good work!
