almost 20 years later and i still consider this the best mix I have ever listened. There is no doubt. The amount of work he put in this 53 minutes mix is unreal.
Thanks for uploading this Gem. Sunday morning, I type in Richie Hawtin, and i click. And this plays. Fantastic. Hi tech, High. Tek. Sending electronic music to my ears. So solid state, digital. Techno..................

melodic, hypnotizing, some parts are so emotional, others are just hypnotic and full focusing - he collected all the best bits and put them together in something that never exited before. respect to richie and love his old works plastikman 1990-2010...
I remember seeing Richie Hawtin headline at DEMF in either 2004 or 2005 (it was his first show in the US in years).. I'll never forget how beautiful that night was..
An ageless masterpiece of minimal techno! The minimalist composers like Steve Reich and Philip Glass pale in artistic brlliance next to this gem and other works by Richie Hawtin. 🎉
This, Decks FX and 909 and Mixmag Live are sublime, a DJ completely at the top of his game. I agree that "DE9: Transitions" was boring, not a patch on this. Hawtin is Jekyll and Hyde in many ways, he has the capacity to be mind-blowing (he's in that mode here) or dull beyond grief, but when he's on form he's truly special.
I don't miss the 'old Richie Hawtin' or Plastikman for that matter... Richie is a person... a wonderful person, and an artist who immerses himself in anything that he chooses to do. These experiences change him as a person, he grows and so does his art... it's unavoidable. When i see/hear his work i see someone's journey... and his work travels me back and forth in time... through my own journey... and this is so special... and would have never been possible with sheet one or de9 in isolation...
47:02 is so unbelievably good that it bewilders me. like holy shit the track LFO drive feels like it was created for this one specific moment in time. phenomenal
I remember this coming out quite vividly. We'd been following Richie closely and the change seemed extremely sudden to me; the few times we saw him in '99 & '00 he was still in the Minus Orange mode: slamming Techno, Disco/Electro/EBM references galore (Join in the Chant! You Spin Me Right Round). Techno was becoming Pretty boring (speeding up, everybody converging to the same production techniques). None of the tracks he plays here were particularly new, it's just that most people simply weren't paying attention. And when this came out it was an absolute bomb and the whole entire scene followed. Now everyone was playing minimal and the guys Richie played on DE9 were suddenly stars. I know that's a bit reductive, but that's how I experienced it. Problem was, everybody followed and instead of experimenting how you could create great music with minimalistic techniques, producers went: 'what must I do to sound like Richie' and boom, Minimal had turned into a convention and everything was boring again. And now we're in 2023 and we're seeing both faster techno ánd minimal making a come back. Let's wait until somebody thinks of something new again, and we'll be in for another great ride.
This mix is so good, the detailing and loop structure used in this mix is so beautiful, gives a futuristic sheen to the mix whenever you listen, guaranteed to still be played in the year 2101, it's so good.
About 21 years ago I randomly got this album from the library in Ghent. Still feels like yesterday. There's something very special about this album. It's like being the Bach of electronic music. Ricardo villalobos is also one of these artist that something gives me this feeling.
Much more akin to Basic Channel and Robert Hood, in the days when his Dex FX & 909 sets were slaughtering dancefloors, and Minus furthered that as the antithesis to +8, Richie has always been ahead of the curve
i listened to so much electronic music in the past 15 years but nothing compares to this. this is perfection, there is not one note to add or remove. for sure a masterpiece.
my favourite mix of all time. cold cuts journey by dj, liam howletts dirt chamber session, dj qberts camel in a bobsled, dj shadow and cut chemists brain freeze.... THIS is the top of the lot!!!
That's the one thing rich has over the all other dj/producers, he is always trying something new and loves using cutting edge new technology. i think he gets it from his father the rocket scientist.
menuda sesion! 11 años despues la escucho y todavia me gusta...esto no lo hace cualquiera! ya estaba cambiando el estilo de musica y todavia no sabiamos que nos deparaba..muy bueno!

Never knew about the splicing amount method, really cool and must of been a great mission. Reading the "closer to the edit" article on it now in a 2001 Future Music Magazine. Fascinating stuff and an ingenious way of pioneering a new way of DJing on a whole new performance level back then.
I did this with a Drum n Bass mix around 2002 called Endgame. I called it a reconstruction; breaking each track down into its constituent loops and parts, and then almost reconstructing each track into a different piece and then mixing it all together. I had about 600 loops for a 72 minute mix. It was so much fun.
