Marques was never a pay driver. He always was paid to race to Minardi. I don't know why Martin simply ignored that to just keep hammering on Marques. Would it be because Argentina 1996? Let it go Martin!
He was the first choice to Briatore, but refuses to sign contract with him, and when also, Ferrari wants him to test driver, but Minardi refused to release with him
He got paid a small amount in 2001 and was instructed to be the number two while they put everything on Alonso. I worked out since Fernando could do the miracles he was capable of while marques brought some stabile performances along the ride
Tarso Marques did not have access to the same engines that Alonso had during that year, and his role within the team was very much a car development role. He did a solid team job that season.
Marques was very impressive in his first two races in 1996 (qualifying his Minardi 14th in Argentina!), didn't disgrace himself in 1997 either with what he had to drive.
Yes, but that's pretty much all, he was beaten sequent year by Katayama (tough he had the excuse to have less experience and that he arrived in the middle of the season) and got his ass whooped by Fernando in 2001, even if he was treated as a second driver, the gap was too big!
@@quentinhirschfeld9382Tarso had a similar performance to Alonso in 2001 season, don’t know what you’re talking about. Also, he could have been stayed in the team if he wanted, but he refused to sign a ten-year contract with Briatore
@@quentinhirschfeld9382 As a matter of fact best place of the team that year was Marques (9th). Dealing the fact Marques’ car was quite worse (30 kg heavier, 1000 rpm less, different brakes and aero), he was meant to obey team orders, switching his place with Alonso too many times when he was faster.
I've never understood why the two Minardi were always the first cars to try qualifying. Why didn't they wait someone else went first, to have a better grip on the track?
The slowest drivers in practice are always the first ones out for qualifying. I don't know if it's still like this, haven't really watched or followed F1 since 2012 :/
The team had almost no budget, so going out first and being the only cars on the track ensured that their sponsors got airtime and it gave the fans something to see.
@@markisaki979 That rule was brought in in 2003, when they had the one-shot qualifying on race fuel loads. Before this, it was just a one hour session on the Saturday where you just set the fastest time you could, and everyone was out on track at the same time. They brought normal qualifying back in 2006, but they mucked around with it so it was split into 3 15 minute or so segments, which completely ruined it because you only see the last 10 seconds of a drivers lap.

Sort of.. he was in a terrible car but he was slower than Alonso. Mazzacane was worse.

Is that reaL, I had no clue about that!
One of the worsts F1 pay drivers!
Grande piloto grande caráter ,não teve lugar na F1 por causa disso ,tremendo customizador ,parabéns tmc
Minardi always had good looking cars, sadly never had the money to challenge the others much.
oh no dude, they were so ugly!
Tarso is a world class driver
Absolutely not.
He was Miles off alonso
No it wasn't a world class driver it was a pay driver and it was for a money 💷💷💷

Not surprised to hear this, Alonso is a political beast mostly, highly overrated!
Tarso Marques has a youtube channel and its pretty great if you can understand Portuguese
when a outlap is more fun to watch, than a hole season today.
Tfw he finished in the championship ahead of both Alonso and Yoong.
He obtained 2 lucky 9 places in 2001, that's why, but Fernando demolished him!
Alonso was always going to be the better driver, but Marques was (and is) objectively a much more capable driver than Yoong at least.

Tarso Marques was much better than Alonso. F1 has always given preference to European drivers

not good results, but you can't deny the guy had style.
How do these cars look and sound so much faster than the current cars?!
O Brasil sempre teve os melhores pilotos do mundo ! O Brasil na realidade era pr ter 12 títulos mundiais ,caso não fosse a política da FIA

Senna in a Minardi? Now you see it, now you don't.
With Alonso as his teammate? It would have never worked.
