- HEREFORD WALK FEATURING HIGH TOWN, CASTLE GREEN AND HEREFORD CATHEDRAL
"Hereford Cathedral, High Town and Castle Green”
Filmed 29th October 2018
Post-production completed 9th September 2019
The city of Hereford was one of the furthest away locations reached by the regional bus service, on which I used to ride when I travelled all over the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean in my teenage years, so I decide to return having not been for many years. Furthermore, as another of my favourite English cities, I felt Hereford would make a wonderful place as a bookend to all my recent trips to the Wye Valley…..
Filmed in the city of Hereford in the county of Herefordshire. Locations include the Wye Bridge, High Town, St Peter’s Square, Castle Green, Hereford Cathedral and Victoria Bridge. This is the last of the series of films shot in 2018 celebrating 25 years of “The Solitary Rambler”.
Written, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.

I am also glad Patrick that you came back to Hereford at a time of much upheaval for you. It looked and sounded like the antidote to moving house that you needed. I love this City, the place of my birth and its surrounds and I feel fortunate to live here. You showcased Hereford superbly. Thank you very much for generously mentioning my RUclips channel. Very much appreciated. It would lovely to meet and share a walk one day. Thank you. Paul 😊
Thanks Paul, it's been a long time since I was last in Hereford, but it's always been a favourite city of mine. Coming back last October showed me that my appreciation of it hadn't changed. Thanks for your kind comments as always Paul, pleasure to mention your own channel whilst I was there. It certainly would be great to meet and do a walk some time. All the best. Cheers, Patrick :)
Cheryl and I were walking Hereford in September - a place "not to be missed" :) Thank you! for the video Mr. Solitary Rambler
Thanks for watching 👍
Learn't a lot from this and I am Hereford born and bred . Thanks
Great to know this was helpful, many thanks for watching. Cheers, Patrick :)
what majestic rambling. good on ya!
Random Thoughts:
1. Great tour of an historic city.
2. Magnificent cathedral!
3. Video is so well-done: variety of scenes, voice-over info, unobtrusive yet interesting music, expert editing.
4. You have a great mom. She has an awesome son.
5. Weren’t you fortunate in having such lovely weather that day to do your walk/filming!
6. You seemed your usual relaxed self in spite of having squeezed this walk into the days around your move.
7. I love all the comments: you have amassed a coterie of RUclips supporters.
8. Your lovely deep voice would be much appreciated by a choir. 😉
1. It was a pleasure being in this lovely city at the time of filming this.
2. Isn't it so? :)
3. Thank you for that, there was more narration to record in this one leaving little room for music, but I was happy with the result.
4. My mum is fab, always been my best friend.
5. It was a perect day weatherwise and I love this time of year with the autumn colours.
6. I was very tired when I was here because of the move, but I had already paid for my stay in the nearby Travelodge so that was a good incentive not to waste my money :)
7. I feel very lucky that I have gained more supporters in recent years and I am very grateful for that.
8. Thank you for the idea, still need some practice with the singing though :)
Proud to have come from there,I really miss it now I live in Blackpool.

Glad you enjoyed it, Hereford is indeed a wonderful city :)
In doing family research from the West Coast of the US, I found this informative, well-done video on Hereford, UK. Great job, Patrick, in spite of your circumstances!

Thanks I love watching this ( iv watched several times now ) it has lots of places that mean so much to me . I always try and frame my shots so that I can get the best picture possible, but it's easy in such a beautiful city like Hereford as you just point and shoot, so I'll capture a great scene every time. I appreciate all your support Pete for watching from the beginning and for all your kind comments. Many thanks and all the best. Cheers, Patrick :)
I've had the great pleasure to come in touch with the magnificent cathedral already twice! My bis dream is to visit Hereford again on the occasion of 3choir's!

Thank you so much for this. Looking forward to the trip to Hereford
Thanks for watching, enjoy Hereford 👍
Congratulations Patrick, really enjoyed most of your 2018 videos although not got around to watching them all, nevertheless I'm sure they'll be just as enjoyable as the rest. Once again a really interesting video, loved the amazing Cathedral, Timber framed buildings along with the old churches. Such beautiful views of the surrounding countryside, nice to see some old historical remains too, it all adds to the experience. The statue of the bull was amazing! All in all, lots to see and lots to explore an excellent place for just about anyone. Some memories are priceless! Thank you again for all the work you've put into your videos and looking forward to more soon. Be safe on your travels and take care. Vivien 😊👍
Thank you Vivien, Hereford is a beautiful city and the timber framed buildings are typical of Herefordshire. There is so much to see inside the cathedral, a really impressive building. That bull statue was great wasn't it?! Glad you enjoyed this again Vivien, and really great to know the work involved is worth the effort when I receive such lovely comments from yo and others. All the best. Cheers, Patrick :)
I really enjoy your videos. Nicely filmed, well-paced and extremely informative.
That's great to know, thank you very much for watching and for your nice comments! 👍
So marvelous that you have made your way to lovely Hereford. The city and cathedral are favored places to go to for us whenever we are in country. The cathedral has a monumental Willis organ on which concerts are played every Tuesday.
You obviously know Hereford quite well, great place isn't it. I would love the chance to play a cathedral organ like the one in Hereford. Thanks as always for watching. Cheers, Patrick :)
Another interesting and informative video Patrick, keep them coming. 👌
Many thanks for watching and for your kind words, much appreciated. Cheers, Patrick :)
Hi Patrick,
Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your informative series of videos on the Wye Valley area, and beyond. Hope to be following in your footsteps (although perhaps not all of them) sometime next spring.
Best wishes,
Colin
Hey Colin, so glad you liked my Wye Valley films, that means a lot. I thoroughly enjoyed making them all during 2018. Many thanks for your kind comments and for watching! Cheers, Patrick 😃
That was a nice relaxed walk and a cathedral thrown in too. I always love a good cathedral hence why i live near Lincoln cathedral, i can see that and the castle from my window. Thanks for your time and effort if i am ever down that way i will stop off in hereford for a walk. I will check out those other channel's now.
Thanks for watching Kelly, glad you like the cathedral. Hope you do manage to stop off in Hereford sometime. Enjoy the other channels. Cheers, Patrick :)
Thank you so much for taking us to another nice place. 👌👌🌷
Thank you for watching :)

Hi Patrick. Although I visited Hereford a few months ago I definitely did not see half of what you have shown in the video. After looking briefly at the town I wanted to fit a walk into the day so did not linger. Thanks for showing us around properly.
Thanks Del, I managed to find a city trail online when I was researching before I came to Hereford, so I was able to find some of the key places to film on the walk. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Patrick :)
Great vid love your style , nice too hear about your life as well as where you visit .Live in Gloucester so know these places well , thankyou .
Thank you for your kind comments! I was born in Gloucester so nice to know you live there. Many thanks for taking the time to watch, Cheers, Patrick :)
@@solitaryrambler no ,thankyou you do some great vids , keep them coming
Fascinating video Patrick. Hereford is a city that has so much to offer, in addition to Ronnie Radford’s goal against Newcastle😂😂😂😂😂. Congratulations on managing to upload the last video from 2018 and 25 years of the Solitary Rambler. Looking forward to seeing the videos of your 2019 walks.
Thanks Paul, Hereford is a lovely city. It's been a long haul getting the last 27 films from 2018 done, but finally I've got there, so many thanks for watching and for commenting. Cheers, Patrick :)

Thanks so much you saved my account !
Blimey Patrick where do I begin? Well, firstly it was another great Patrick Leach production, which I always enjoy settling down to. I actually made a fresh brew. I'll speak about All Saints. After our rave parties were shut down in the early 90's a friend of ours Nigel commissioned a large Arthurian round table made out of Herefordshire Oak. Under our name 'Transition' it was gifted to the city in 1994 as a means of breaking barriers down and creating dialogue between groups. It was dedicated by the then Bishop of Hereford Rev John Oliver and housed in the South Chapel of All Saints. Some eminent people talked on the table and we were responsible for motivating some pretty key projects in the city/county both social and green. Well, I enjoyed that Patrick. I knew every corner, building and blade of grass. Any way, if interested here is a video of the round table I did at a gathering in Shropshire ruclips.net/video/zLQR67JCIjI/видео.html. It's out of All Saints now and is being looked after by Nigel and attends various events. A big thank you for the shout out. That means a lot to me. See you in the future. Mark
I knew you would of course know all the places seen here Mark. It was great to have been back in Hereford after so many years and my love of the city hasn't diminished. Thanks for the info on All Saints, that's a great contribution you made there Mark. I'll take a look at the link you've provided so thanks for that. The day I filmed this I had stayed overnight in Hereford Grafton Travelodge, and I walked into King Street for a great breakfast at a really nice cafe, King Street Kitchen I think it was called. Got there when it opened at 8am, so a brilliant start to the day before I started filming, Thanks for watching Mark and a real pleasure for the shout out whilst I was there. See you soon and all the best. Cheers, Patrick :)
@@solitaryrambler Good to know you love the city - my feelings have been mixed over the years. I know the travel lodge on the main Ross road. It's a good one I think and I know that cafe. I've had a few brews in there. Glad you had a good breaky Patrick - sets you up. Yeah see you soon. Look forward to that.
Looks like a beautiful place. Good video.
Thank you, yes I think Hereford is a beautiful city :)
@@solitaryrambler ✌
Loved the video. I to love to see a visitors perspective of the city. But being slightly picky as I help out with Coningsby, I know the information nearby often says otherwise but the place is actually late 12th century probably 1190 is when we believe it was built and feel free to visit the museum itself on Wednesdays or Saturdays.
Thank you for watching. You clearly know more about Coningsby than me, but hopefully you can appreciate the information is only what I find available online during all my research. Cheers, Patrick :)
@@solitaryrambler oh unfortunately information online is very limited so it's in no way blaming you or anyone else but I really did love the video it really was quite interesting and well done better than anything I could create at least 😅
@@rebeccamillman5949 That is very kind of you to say so Rebecca. Glad you liked my film, been nearly a year since I was in Hereford to film this. Thank you again for watching and for your kind words. Cheers, Patrick :)
It's so many good places in Herefordshire. maybe some time you came to Qeenswood country park and make video on this place and also very interested Hampton court castle near leominster. Maybe you been in this place?
I know of Hampton Court as it was used as a location in the BBC TV series Survivors in 1975, but I've not been there myself yet.
Which type of camera use for making video.
@@solitaryrambler I use to live in Bodenham two miles from Hampton court.Queens wood is worth a visit,Dinmore hill on the top off the
A49 and also the railway inn pub too is a very good location.
How have the BBC not picked up on your videos? Might be worth the license fee if they did.
Thanks Paul, my videos do get shared so you never know who may see them one day :)
Thank you very much for video about Hereford its very interested to know more about it. So long time ago i was in Herefordshire walking on streets and bridges. Like and subscribe.!!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching and subscribing :)
Thanks for all the trips to places of interest a friend online Ann zDeakin WarwickUK
Thank you too!
So what connection did Sir George Cornewall Lewis have to Hereford?
I'm assuming you know the answer as I have no idea.
Most of our beef in America is hereford--pronounced 'her-ferd' in the US. Second is black angus.
👍
thanks.@@solitaryrambler
