Yes Tim, handrails aren’t very aesthetic lol but as someone who is relatively young & disabled, they help keep people like me safe from potentially doing serious damage, especially when places like Travelodge / Premier inn don’t give out bathroom mats to step out onto!

      @CraftyWitch1990 Год назад +4

That's why i usually take my own towels and only use theirs for stepping out onto when I've had a shower. Gives me something a bit more stable so i don't slip plus get the comfort of my own towels from home :)

I agree about handrails. As someone with RA, and using unfamiliar facilities, a handrail gives you extra security. I often take my own lightweight one that has suction pads to adhere to the wall.

I've stayed in one of these and to be honest, I'd save the money and get the standard room. There's a caveat to that though... I think there's two types of travelodges. The decent ones, which are a bit like premier inn and ultimately the only ones with super rooms, so I'd take the standard. Then the 'other' travelodges, and those in the know, know exactly what they are like and are effectively another chain.

£8.99 for an all you can eat breakfast is a steal.
Even 5 years ago, you could easily spend that in greggs for 3 items 😮
Travelodge had bedside USB ports 10 years ago.
I stay in numerous hotels all of the time! Travelodge heaters are very efficient and not very hard to figure out, basically you set the temp with the up and down arrows 😂

Previous nights room looked very uncared for and the basic I would want is cleanliness and a bit of care and attention.
For a £16 upgrade fee, that doesn't seem too bad but I'd still be in a Travelodge and that's always going to be the problem...

I haven’t stayed in a Travelodge for quite a number of years, because they always felt rather cheap and tacky. When I stay in a cheap/budget type of hotel I have mostly used Premier Inn, Ibis or Holiday Inn Express - they generally are pretty consistent, decently maintained, and generally pleasant enough for brief stays. Travelodge may be slightly cheaper but to be honest I’m not so desperate that I have to scrabble around to save every penny.

If you look closer, the massive space under the bad is to fit a slide out single bed, suddenly, the super room becomes a bit crowded. They do have nice padding on the back
of the chair, 2, two finger kitkats and a map of Cambridge from 1469, that will be really useful in 2023 with your GPS. The small opening on the windows are good for preventing
any suicide attempts. Only kidding, I have used Travelodge hundreds of times, even had free stays, love them, great video Tim 👍

We wanted a break that was far away enough from home, but we could get back quickly in case our teenagers needed us. I must say it was one of the best places we have stayed in for a long time. It felt like a home from home and the staff were attentive and lovely. The food was gorgeous and we would definitely recommend a visit there. Even though it's close to home for you guys.

As an American who has stayed at Travelodge in the past (in Las Vegas), I can tell you that Travelodge here in the US is very different than in the UK. Based on this video, the quality of the Travelodges in the UK is significantly better than in the US especially when it comes to cleanliness. This is because In the US, Travelodge is considered a bare bones budget brand right alongside brands like Motel 6, Econo Lodge or Super 8. As a result, the quality of Travelodge rooms in the US is significantly worse than in the UK with rooms often having never been updated since the hotel opened which for many Travelodges in the US is the 70's or 80's. US Travelodges also often have a reputation of attracting illegal activity. There is also no breakfast of any kind at a majority of Travelodges in the US & if there is, it is free but only consists of a pastry item & coffee. Just wanted to offer this information to anyone in the UK or Europe who is visiting or going to be visiting the US thinking about staying at Travelodge.

I stayed in Travelodge, Anaheim in 1999 & everything was immaculate, better than any UK Travelodge. There was 2 super king size beds in the room & the bathroom was very clean. They had a small swimming pool & if I remember rightly, they also served breakfast. But at that time, there was an all you can eat restaurant on the same block for only $5. I remember over indulging in the ice cream there. Happy days that holiday was.

Hello Tim, really this reminds me of how the LCCs (budget airlines) developed. Budget hotel chains appeared on the scne in the early 1990s. They simply stripped away the frills so that they could be price-competitive with conventional properties. But later the LCCs started to earn more money by charging ancillary fees (just check how much you end up paying EZY or Ryanair when you request some/all of the many options) the former have been copied by the budget hotel chains. Hence the Super Room concept. At the same time the cost of a standard room or flight (without the extras) means the firm can display a lower headline price which in turn attracts the customer.

Hi Tim. I'm a very recent subscriber to your channel, having only found it a few days ago. I'm really enjoying your content, and greatly looking forward to watching more of it 👍
I'm a sporadic user of Travelodge, with the main branch I've used over the years being Blackpool South Shore (I'm generally happy with the no-frills environment for the low cost outside of main holiday seasons). I did try a Super Room back in 2018 when they first opened their branch in Acton, which I used as a base for two nights while travelling around the south west on a rail rover. At the time, to promote the new hotel, they offered the Super Rooms for less than most other branches in the area were offering their standard rooms for. It pretty much had everything shown in your video, with the only difference being it had proper air conditioning rather than heaters, and with only having just opened at the time everything was virtually spotless. In all honesty, other than the air conditioning, I didn't make much use of the extras.
With how much Super Rooms cost these days I doubt I'd pay the uplift for them now and just stick with standard rooms.

The great thing about (some) Travelodge locations is that they are the 'vintage' locations that have been around for decades! As a lover of 'vintage' hotel and travel experiences I love this! Again, there are only a few of these 'original' Travelodge locations, and quality varies with each individual management, but its worth looking into.

As for breakfast - it seems expensive, however what you didn't mention was - if you have kids, they can have breakfast free if an adult also has breakfast - which makes it more cost effective (especially if you have kids with the appetite mine have!). Not sure we would upgrade to a Super Room ourselves though.

Great review Tim, thanks for that. The extra £16 seems reasonable for the upgrade from standard anf £8.99 for an unlimited breccy is about the norm. That shower doesn't live up to the billing though, very underwhelming. Would I stay in one? Hmm, the juty is definitely out.

    Hi Tim
You are right. The coffee area was disgusting. Shower curtain more like the old butlins. Lots of choice for breakfast. Nothing super about the room though☕🍩

2:00 nice and easy to find your room. 3:00 super clean. 4:15 Do your own KitKat adverts. 6:15 Shower looks normal. 9:30 stop filming, that a shame. Thank you Tim for the review.

I only ever stayed in a TravelLodge once when I had to work away (so it was booked for me). I would never stay in one out of choice. Much prefer Premier Inn

You have to pay to park at most hotels in Cambridge. Travelodge are generally hit and miss. Stayed recently in Towcester which was quite cheap but probably the most comfortable one I've been in. Prices can vary depending on what's going on locally.

I've stayed in that Travelodge in Cambridge in one of their family rooms. It was actually very nice and a great price. I'm not a hotel snob at all and I appreciate the Travelodge prices 🙂 and the all you can eat breakfast! As a single mum of four we have had some lovely Travelodge stays even before their facelift. I think it all depends on what type of person you are, which Travelodge it is, and why you are there. No, we are not "lower class" because we have enjoyed stays in a Travelodge, or excessively noisy people. We are respectful and decent, and I am a lawyer haha!

If you're asked to stop filming in a public place like that, I would wonder what they are trying to hide. 🤣😂😆 Unless the staff are just on a power trip, which seems the norm these days!

The charitable explanation might be that they are trying to protect the privacy of other guests in the public areas of the premises

The Lavazza A Moda Mio machines are pretty good. I've had them in my home for years. The pod design ensures the water goes through as little "spent" coffee as possible compared to Nespresso, and I think Lavazza puts their best coffee grounds in their own pods (I assume Travelodge is using actual Lavazza pods).
I'm not sure I would pay more for a room with an A Moda Mio machine though, because if I'm on holiday I'm likely to just go out and buy coffee or tolerate the instant.

Room looks quite nice Tim although I wouldn’t have been happy with that first room you were in. Love the chocolate and stuff with the coffee machine. Don’t know if it’s all worth the extra though. Nice video👍

Looks nice, I've not stayed in any of the refurbished Travel Lodge's, the last one I stayed in was about 9 years ago at Colsterworth, I only stayed because the Premier Inn at Grantham was full, the place stank like it had had a massive flood, complained to reception but got no joy, vowed never to stay with Travel Lodge again
