in case you havent noticed, this trailer is aiming for south KOREA as there is a HUGE DEMAND for OG starcraft from that country. if you look closer, the people running away from invasion symbolized NON FANS of star craft while the Korean GUY who is smiling on a rooftop represents a FAN who is feeling excited that "OG STARCRAFT is finally coming BACK." it may be niche worldwide but in south Korea it is a HARDCORE Trend to them.
Otoshigami couldn't agree more. Majority of the trailer was filled with Korean people. The PC cafe was one of the biggest give away that it was literally aiming at Korea.
While that may be true, you can't deny that this trailer was a mess... I mean the Zerg Eggs, the downed Terran Battlecruisers, and the random Protoss Warp Portals... It all felt like it was going somewhere, but ultimately went nowhere. Where's the Attack? Oh look, just units flying through the sky, not shooting anything, nor people dying... There's nothing here that "Sells" StarCraft. It's just showing, StarCraft, that's it... Again, while this may have been made for Korea, and while it may symbolize fans vs non-fans, I can say that Fans of StarCraft, Korean, American, Etc., should be disappointed in this trailer, and look at it as nothing more than a parody of Sci-Fi films, which in and of themselves are parodies.
I love this show and the format of you discussing trailers so much. Really great to see this again! Having said that, I'm wondering if there's a way to improve bits and pieces. For example: why don't you play the trailer two or three times and afterwards - instead of the endless loop - you stop the trailer from time to time and/or jump to certain points? This would enable you to talk in depth about specific parts/cuts/scenes and the audience could more easily follows your thoughts instead of having to "catch" the moments in another rerun of the clip.
This trailer is a lot like short clips for e-sports events. Like: DreamHack Valencia: ruclips.net/video/-CwaSXbneXE/видео.html Zerg Attack -- Humanity Fights Back: ruclips.net/video/qF-NoQFJrxc/видео.html and others they use to cycle between matches
If they wanted it to be funny they could have had lots of people cheering for the invasion and taking selfies while a Zergling eats their friend in the background. I think that would have gone over better.
I don't really think you guys got the trailer, I honestly never thought it was going for a "Some people are excited that StarCraft is coming back, some are confused and running" It was just a throw back to old Alien invasion B movies using the StarCraft imagery and the end for me shows that this guy is ready because he's a commander and ready to RTS this battle up. People are even playing StarCraft in that cafe, this whole trailer is just a joke about alien invasion and showing Korea specifically because of the fan base there. I guess you had to read between the lines to make the video longer but this was simply a parody of B movies with StarCraft.
Just a couple practical suggestions, made with full L&R: It was a bit confusing to have the trailer play out at start while you do the intro and then re-start it. Also when you are talking about the first scene, either keep looping that scene or show it once and pause it. While you were talking about the first scene the trailer moved on for another few mins, getting the user to focus on the visuals that don't match what you are talking about.
Great to see trailer Jones is back in business! I think you were very lenient with this trailer, this to me is a Marvel vs Capcom trailer situation. It feels like random shots put together, as if they forgot what they were trying to tell. It has some cool shots, but the lack of escalation and the story they were trying to tell just suck out any emotional impact it could've had. 4.5 And I love Starcraft.
I'm so glad for the return of classic GT shows like this. I'm sure Box Peek will be as brilliant as anything Kyle gets up to, and I hope this kind of content continues at EZA. Event reactions, The Final Bosman, 2-3 person group streams, and shows like Let's all go to the trailers and Just Played were some of my favorite things about Gametrailers.
As a person with a raging nostalgia boner for Starcraft, just those few old sound effects from the game inserted into the trailer made me go into overdrive. But other than that, this didn't do much for me. But the game doesn't need selling to me, I'm already sold three times over.
I'm soooo happy this show is back! Was always my favorite back at GT. About the trailer: It is definitely a trailer specifically made for Starcraft fans. People that don't know the game won't even know that this is a trailer for a videogame. So, if I keep that in mind, than it is a good trailer for what it tried to do.
As someone who's never played StarCraft, this trailer does absolutely nothing to make me want to play it. I get no sense of what the game is, and no excitement or intrigue in this classic game getting remastered. Good production values mean nothing if it doesn't work.
By the way, is this really came from blizzard themselves? It's look like a game advertisement from South Korea. I saw this kind of "trailers" so many times here.
Well, Starcraft fan here, and as such I can enjoy this trailer(ad?) for making a remake look like a really big deal, but... I mean, all these people are going to die moments after this. Horribly, too. Even if I didn't know the first thing about Starcraft I think I could tell. And I don't know, I couldn't really shake off that thought as I watched this, yet I don't think that was the point somehow. So I do agree that there's a problem with the tone here.
Honestly I really wasn't that thrilled about it. I mean just how it was presented didn't work all that well with all of these scenes of the news broadcasts and the people's reactions towards the events that were unfolding. The last shot was the best IMO just because it was a good representation of the game. But for a newcomer of the Starcraft Universe there wasn't enough information to go by in order to understand what it is. This was made for the fans of Starcraft clearly and it is an odd group to target because they have already played the game to death and most of them have moved on. So I would give it 6/10.
But Pokemon Go trailer made much sense with the context of the game. If i am a person that has never heard of starcraft , this trailer does nothing for me.
I don't think it's supposed to, though. It's a remaster made primarily for Korea, which still prefers the original over the sequel, so it's not made to target new fans but to maintain the current and recapture some old ones.
Half way through the serious trailer on the street with all the Korean people staring up at the ships in shock a very small petite Korean business woman walks off to the left out of the shot while everyone continues to gaze in awe frozen in place. Slowly Pan across to see this woman taking her heels off very casually and proper, the camera pans out slowly as she then procedes to enter a giant mech suit and start firing off rockets at zerg invaders while laughing/smiling, everyone stares at here in awe now for a few seconds before going and equipping themselves and charge into battle with smiles also. The tone shifts from a serious Michael Bay transformers trailer to a fun enjoyable time of people fighting zerg to a possible zoom out that dissolve transitions perhaps into game play, showing it off and informing people of what your product is. Just my lazy 2 cents atleast.
I am glad you are doing this show. It was my favorite part of Gametrailers and I have been waiting for you to bring it over to Easy Allies. Now if only you can bring back an Invisible Walls type show. I liked the fact that the B-roll played while you where talking about a game. You should have B-roll then have the little visual cue at the bottom of the screen for whoever is talking. P.S. You should play the whole trailer with audio to give the viewer a chance to better understand what you are discussing. What if the trailer has great music which would also be important.
This trailer was geared mainly at Korea. It was the first major E-sports game, and its been talked about for months. This is a difficult game to play that is important to a lot of people, but the trailer isn't inviting because the game isn't inviting. Those mechanics and graphics aren't likely going to win over a lot of new fans. These units, sound effects, and unit models are all of the old game. I'd give it a 8.5 - because all of this production value and time went into making it, and it *isn't* geared towards everyone. Its a bit hokey, a bit weird, but it is Blizzard tipping its hat to the fans and this weird, hokey game that made them one of the hugest companies in the world. They made a trailer that was proud of the original game, the fans, and the nostalgia - not the trailer itself.
Kyle was right on the money in this case. I was thinking 6.0 when the discussing started going into score time. I may even go less, because this trailer did absolutely nothing for me, but then pointing out the negatives just put oil on the fire.
Yeah, how to make this trailer better? Get to the smiling guy halfway through, then transition to all these Starcraft-lovers basically cosplaying as their favorite characters and running out into the street as everyone else runs away from this brewing battle. That would make it fun.
Not a starcraft fan, but I thought this was a decently memorable trailer with a consistent vibe. Probably woulda rated it a 7 due to memorability. The scene of the guy and his dog might be cheesy, but served their purpose of hiding what the trailer was about until you actually saw the zerg. I am curious what hardcore StarCraft players thought.
Thank you for bringing back Trailer Jones! Friendly criticism: It's a good episode, but I would like to have a little more variety when it comes to video material. I just had to skip forward after the 6th repeat of the trailer - I'm sorry. The other thing I'd like to mention is that this video is slightly to long for my taste. I'd find it better if it didn't feel like an excerpt of a podcast/livestream with a looping trailer 'slapped' onto it, instead please put a little more work in. I'm sure it will be worth it and the community will appreciate the extra effort. Correction: I now know my last point was pretty much denied due to what was said in the intro to Episode 0, which I just watched.
Back together again! "Lets All Go to The Trailers" should have been a show on G4...Oh,ah..er-um never-mind that judgement.lol AND 6.5 on the Star-crafty spot.
Oh, there's many South Korea is in, but not all of them are South Korea. Some part is China, and even Japan I can see. South Korea has no huge desert like that. We are small peninsula.
6.0. I agree with Jones, I don't know what tone they were trying to go for. Is it super serious "hey Starcraft: Remastered is a big deal" or is it a parody?
I feel like Brandon is misreading this trailer. I don't think it's FOR "new fans". The entire trailer is meant to show an old thing in a new light. Thusly showing things Starcraft fans are intimately familiar with in a setting that is unfamiliar capitalizes on their knowledge. Just like the final smiling guy. If you recognize what these things are, the trailer is for you. If not, it's not. I wouldn't make the mistake of confusing this with a commercial. It's not a commercial. I doubt we're going to see this thing rolling on television. It's not trying to tease the story (the target audience already knows the entire story. Well.) it's trying to say, again, "hey, look at this old thing in a new light!"
well is super good trailer if you guys think is good, because is not targeted at you, is targeted at Korea where StarCraft is a career path, and the resurrection of StarCraft have to do with their military mandatory service, all the pro that went on to this are coming back . So I think it is an excellent trailer for the correct audience , it so happens that audience is not "the world" is just Korea , imagine the same commercial but for basketball and it will be fine
As someone who's not into Starcraft but played a bit of the first's campaign, this doesn't make me want to go back. I don't even know what's new or interesting.
I think a story trailer would have been better, use the dialogue from the campaign. nostalgia for the people who played it and a tease of the story for anyone who didn't. I love StarCraft and this made me feel nothing. This reminds me of the live action cod trailers, wonder if Activision had anything to do with it.
What? Of course it's supposed to be funny and a parody. All the alien invasion tropes and the smile at the end says it all. It's like Star Craft is gonna take over the world all over again starting with Korea. It's all about messing with expectations in a clever way. Honestly I think it's the same thing they did with the Odyssey trailer and the T-Rex. Anyway, I love Starcraft and I follow the Korean e-sports scene closely so I might be biased.... By the way, I'm so glad Trailer Jones is back. I almost always disagree with you guys on your scores but that's the fun part. L&R
its a dumb video but it does make me want a starcraft film, seeing the broodlords flotting towards the beach is both cool and chilling, but the as a person that likes starcraft its a 4 out of 10. and to bosman nop its all Korean with a little bit of European, the uk and US dont have a chance when it comes to starcraft 1 and its only a bit better for SC2 also the news video in the trailer says European loop so its happening everywhere but its shot from a Koreans prospective (probably because of how well broodwars is still doing over there)
The trailer is beyond laughable. It was like a inner meta joke that confuses the fan base around the globe. The "Konami press conference" of all trailers.
Ranessin Strabo what makes you say that? I think most people go by the school system of saying that 50 is a failing grade and 70 is average. After all, the ASSUMPTION is that a product made by professionals should be more good than it is bad. 70 is regarded as successful, but unremarkable.
Given all of their critiques, this should have a failing grade. They state multiple times that it doesn't know what audience it's aiming for, and as a result the message it's conveying is confusing. If it's not doing what it's supposed to, that's an easy fail for me.
That assumes a normal distribution. They're only doing trailers that were professionally done and released. That would probably account for any skewing right there.
You don't need a video for everything guys. It's clear you aren't enjoying it even though Brandon is doing everything he can to drag it out. Kyle is clearly having no fun at all doing this.
It doesn't come across that way, maybe make him a cup of tea and see whats up. He didn't even laugh in disbelief at anything ( Kind of his thing ) I appreciate the reply and don't want to continue being negative... but i'm a quality over quantity kind of guy. I'd like to look forward to that "easy allies" new video notification.
Coming from Blizzard who in my opinion makes some of the best trailers in the biz, this was an epic fail and just a waste of money. Still gonna buy the game though but in spite of this trailer not thanks to it.
I don't understand a lot of your rationale when reviewing this trailer. Why would you think people would feel confused watching this? Doesn't it just look like an intrigueing invasion? Why does it have to be lore necessarily? All of Korea would get what this was about ASAP for instance.
YEEEEESSS!!! YEEEESSSSS!!!! OHHHH YEAH!!! YEAAAAHHHH!!!! YSSSSSSS!!! UUUUHHHHH!!!! 2 THINGS I LIKE COLLIDE!!!!!!11111ONEONEONeone I THINK I GONNA ... UHHHHH UHHHH UHHH!!!! Excellent video, wouldn't have rated the trailer higher either. This is just a big showoff of blizzmoney. "Oh look we will have expensive tunraments, we are blizzard, we make esportz". Anyway, broodwar is the best sc. SC2 is a good game but an abysmal rts.
Suggestion, in the next trailer review please can you run the full trailer with sound once at the start without anyone talking before the discussion/analysis then commences?
They're all available on RUclips. They shouldn't change the format because you can't be bothered to google it. It would suck to have to skip through each video just because some people might have missed the trailer. Maybe they should have a link in the description, but not add to the run time just for lazy viewers.
Maybe they don't run it full with audio because it could get copyright striked? I still think it would make more of their analysis if it played through once at the start though. Neater than watching it externally, then coming back.
Grotesque waterfalls of money > Overwatch > Destiny > Call of Duty > Activision > Blizzard > Starcraft > Those shitty, under-budgeted Korra, Transformers, and Turtles > Warcraft. Giving this company your money only encourages them to steal more.
Also, am I the only one who noticed that those game models looked *horrendous*? Like what are those textures? Gross. Looks like a mobile game. Actually, no, I think I saw some better models on mobile games.
man that trailer sucked biiiig time. cant believe Blizzard actually puts something like this out there. it looks like a commercial for one of these shitty phone games or something. look up any random Blizzard trailer and than this piece of... i dont think it looks big budget at all. they didnt even care showing a yamato gun. but did use the sound effect. so as a fan you know its being used. you just can not see it. pure cheapness.
What a pleasant surprise. Iv'e been waiting for something like this since the days of Trailer Academy on GT. Good to have something like this again.
in case you havent noticed, this trailer is aiming for south KOREA as there is a HUGE DEMAND for OG starcraft from that country. if you look closer, the people running away from invasion symbolized NON FANS of star craft while the Korean GUY who is smiling on a rooftop represents a FAN who is feeling excited that "OG STARCRAFT is finally coming BACK." it may be niche worldwide but in south Korea it is a HARDCORE Trend to them.
Otoshigami couldn't agree more. Majority of the trailer was filled with Korean people. The PC cafe was one of the biggest give away that it was literally aiming at Korea.
That one guy standing on a rooftop excited for the game is in New York City, though...
Again, while this may have been made for Korea, and while it may symbolize fans vs non-fans, I can say that Fans of StarCraft, Korean, American, Etc., should be disappointed in this trailer, and look at it as nothing more than a parody of Sci-Fi films, which in and of themselves are parodies.
please keep this going!!
Lol this trailer felt like an ad for phones/tablets, especially the shot at 2:03
Agreed, whole thing felt so generic
What happened to the intro from the livestream? I really enjoyed that.
You guys are the best! Loving that let's all go to the trailers is back ^_^
Great to have the crew back! I've missed this!
Like:
DreamHack Valencia: ruclips.net/video/-CwaSXbneXE/видео.html
Zerg Attack -- Humanity Fights Back: ruclips.net/video/qF-NoQFJrxc/видео.html
and others they use to cycle between matches
If they wanted it to be funny they could have had lots of people cheering for the invasion and taking selfies while a Zergling eats their friend in the background. I think that would have gone over better.
I don't really think you guys got the trailer, I honestly never thought it was going for a "Some people are excited that StarCraft is coming back, some are confused and running" It was just a throw back to old Alien invasion B movies using the StarCraft imagery and the end for me shows that this guy is ready because he's a commander and ready to RTS this battle up. Just a couple practical suggestions, made with full L&R:
It was a bit confusing to have the trailer play out at start while you do the intro and then re-start it.
Also when you are talking about the first scene, either keep looping that scene or show it once and pause it. While you were talking about the first scene the trailer moved on for another few mins, getting the user to focus on the visuals that don't match what you are talking about.
brandon and co already said dont expect this like IGN rewind where they can jump onto spots or rewind back and forth to a scene
Sure, but this would be an easy to fix and I think the show could benefit. LR
Most of the shots are in South Korea but we get one shot in the red restaurant which is China and the one of the couple eating which is Japan
And I love Starcraft.
Woman was facing away from the sun but then faced towards it.
Yeah, it is surely a trailer without guidance.
Great comment Sean.
As a person with a raging nostalgia boner for Starcraft, just those few old sound effects from the game inserted into the trailer made me go into overdrive.
But other than that, this didn't do much for me. But the game doesn't need selling to me, I'm already sold three times over.
Wow :D TRAILER JONES IS BACK!
Before I start, really interested to hear what the pros think. I thought it was a bad trailer.
"terran destroyer"
god damn it kyle
As someone who's never played StarCraft, this trailer does absolutely nothing to make me want to play it. I get no sense of what the game is, and no excitement or intrigue in this classic game getting remastered. Good production values mean nothing if it doesn't work.
"This vibe worked for the Nintendo Switch and Pokémon GO. We should try it."
It's back and I'm happy!
6.8 STRIKES AGAIN!!!
By the way, is this really came from blizzard themselves? It's look like a game advertisement from South Korea. I saw this kind of "trailers" so many times here.
I agree, I thought the trailer was pandering to it's biggest audience which is South Korea, hence the way it's shot.
YAY! I was wondering when you were going to do a spinoff/copy of your trailer segment that you had on GT!
Honestly I really wasn't that thrilled about it. I mean just how it was presented didn't work all that well with all of these scenes of the news broadcasts and the people's reactions towards the events that were unfolding. I'm hyped for the inevitable Death Stranding trailer reviews.
thanks Hoeglaw, bad trailer to (re)start this series tho, hope to see more!
So excited!!
StarCraft trailer is aiming for the Pokemon Go vibe (obviously less upbeat lol)
But Pokemon Go trailer made much sense with the context of the game. If i am a person that has never heard of starcraft , this trailer does nothing for me.
Since when has that had anything to do with advertising? lol :) It's kinda kooky that companies are putting video games in to the 'real world'.
I don't think it's supposed to, though. It's a remaster made primarily for Korea, which still prefers the original over the sequel, so it's not made to target new fans but to maintain the current and recapture some old ones.

Correction: Earth is absolutely part of StarCraft lore. The United Earth Directorate is a major player in Brood War.
I am glad you are doing this show. It was my favorite part of Gametrailers and I have been waiting for you to bring it over to Easy Allies. Brand manager did good. Lots of views already. Smart SEO
I actually screamed like a little girl out loud seeing trailer jones!
Thank you trailer, you reminded me of the movie Pixels. * shudder *
Yeah, how to make this trailer better? Get to the smiling guy halfway through, then transition to all these Starcraft-lovers basically cosplaying as their favorite characters and running out into the street as everyone else runs away from this brewing battle. That would make it fun.

There is a South Korean version of Easy Allies giving this trailer a solid 10.0 as we speak.
big surprise: Blood is in the middle!
A live action game trailer should be 0.0 by default.
Thank you for bringing back Trailer Jones!
Friendly criticism:
It's a good episode, but I would like to have a little more variety when it comes to video material. I just had to skip forward after the 6th repeat of the trailer - I'm sorry. isn't 7.5 + 7.0 + 6.5 = 7.0 average? i love that this trailer analysis are back! keep it up :D
also Bloodworth being referred as "Daniel" in the trailer scores is throwing me off lol
This is very cool, but I was immediately disappointed when it wasn't "Trailer Academy". Still nice to see this back though.
Some really good points here. The only person this trailer would really appeal to are people who would buy the remaster anyway.
TRAILER JOOOOOOONES!
This is the next Death Stranding trailer if it were made by post-Kojima Konami
Oh, there's many South Korea is in, but not all of them are South Korea. Some part is China, and even Japan I can see. South Korea has no huge desert like that. We are small peninsula.
6.0. I agree with Jones, I don't know what tone they were trying to go for. Is it super serious "hey Starcraft: Remastered is a big deal" or is it a parody?
feels good
Earth is def in the starcraft lore. In brood wars the terrans you play as say they've traveled all the way from earth
What if! The engine of the crashed battlecruiser started at the end of the shot! starcraft is coming back!
As someone who's not into Starcraft but played a bit of the first's campaign, this doesn't make me want to go back. I don't even know what's new or interesting.
this is the most unexciting trailer i can think of for the 1st episode. you could have done e3 cleanup or something
you could go through smaller trailers from e3 you didnt cover in that 1st episode is what i ment by cleanup.
Love the show!
I think a story trailer would have been better, use the dialogue from the campaign. nostalgia for the people who played it and a tease of the story for anyone who didn't. I love StarCraft and this made me feel nothing. This reminds me of the live action cod trailers, wonder if Activision had anything to do with it.
am I the only one who read "mobile release" out of this trailer?
6.8, Kyle's GoW score.
HEY!! Sweet Love these
This trailer has a lot of B-rolls
its a dumb video but it does make me want a starcraft film, seeing the broodlords flotting towards the beach is both cool and chilling, but the as a person that likes starcraft its a 4 out of 10.
and to bosman nop its all Korean with a little bit of European, the uk and US dont have a chance when it comes to starcraft 1 and its only a bit better for SC2 also the news video in the trailer says European loop so its happening everywhere but its shot from a Koreans prospective (probably because of how well broodwars is still doing over there)
U guys are forgeting the most important thing. This is directed twords Southkorea.
This is for Starcraft 64 right?
The trailer is beyond laughable. It was like a inner meta joke that confuses the fan base around the globe.
The "Konami press conference" of all trailers.
Hype
Brandon, "real average" should be 5/10 not 7.5/10 ;)
Ranessin Strabo what makes you say that? I think most people go by the school system of saying that 50 is a failing grade and 70 is average.
After all, the ASSUMPTION is that a product made by professionals should be more good than it is bad. 70 is regarded as successful, but unremarkable.
Ranessin Strabo Exactly what I was thinking
Given all of their critiques, this should have a failing grade. They state multiple times that it doesn't know what audience it's aiming for, and as a result the message it's conveying is confusing. If it's not doing what it's supposed to, that's an easy fail for me.
That assumes a normal distribution. They're only doing trailers that were professionally done and released. That would probably account for any skewing right there.
A 5/10 was never average...it was always 7/10 lol you probably shouldn't play anything that gets "5/10's"
This trailer isn't looking to capture a new audience. It's to bring the old players back. It's copying the tone of old korean esports ads.
You don't need a video for everything guys. It's clear you aren't enjoying it even though Brandon is doing everything he can to drag it out.
Kyle is clearly having no fun at all doing this.
It doesn't come across that way, maybe make him a cup of tea and see whats up. He didn't even laugh in disbelief at anything ( Kind of his thing )
I appreciate the reply and don't want to continue being negative... but i'm a quality over quantity kind of guy.
I'd like to look forward to that "easy allies" new video notification.
Hi
7.0
Dan
I like that girl with the hair ;P she's cute.
The reason we will never understand this trailer is because it's directed towards Koreans :)
I love this "show" and up my pledge on PATREON to 2 dollars. But i have to say: nice show, however BAD, BAD LOGO...
Grotesque waterfalls of money > Overwatch > Destiny > Call of Duty > Activision > Blizzard > Starcraft > Those shitty, under-budgeted Korra, Transformers, and Turtles > Warcraft.
Giving this company your money only encourages them to steal more.
Who care? It's barely remastered. Give me SC3 or WC4.
you can't call it international when almost everything shown is asian
Plain bad.
Say what you want about the trailer
but those are the ugliest Carriers I've ever seen. They shrunk or something?
7.5 = average... lol
abatage seems like jones is using the letter grade percentage where 7/10 is basically a C which is average maybe? *shrugs*
astoriasky yeah, just shows how misleading number scores can be I suppose :)
Wait Epic Trailer? This Trailer is horrible.
This trailer is pure trash.
