I'm really curious how she's not overwhelmed with the # of patients compared to what I hear from other FM docs, but her lifestyle seems VERY manageable! Look forward to clinicals where I get to see more of it :))
I know in the past, she has mentioned over on her own channel that she works part time. This was like a year ago, so I don't know if it's still true now, but it was back then. And as an attending, there are a lot of FM/PCP places that will work with you, you can see as many or as dew patients as you like, though of course it affects your bottom line, but if you want to prioritize lifestyle, you can definitely do it! Primary care is red hot and you can literally find a job almost anywhere in the nation (maybe not your ideal job but still tons of pretty good ones) as well as much of the world since many nations recognize US FM residency training as equivalent to their own. Primary care (FM/IM) is almost the opposite of med school. In med school, FM rarely gets much love (especially from the most "academic" programs where specialists abound), but once you hit residency and especially as an attending FM gets tons of love. All the specialists want to be your best friend so you refer to them, many practices want to hire you because there's almost always a huge demand for PCP unless you work in like a super saturated place like Manhattan. Anyway, sorry I'm rambling, but in the real world it's great being a PCP, you can often find what you want in terms of lifestyle if you're willing to make a bit less. By the way, I think it's pretty standard at most primary care practices to start at around $250k per year working 4.5 days per week with fairly limited call and other obligations. That's orettnesys to find. But as you grow your panel and get more experience and so on, you can easily make over $300k working similar hours. I even know other PCPs making $400k+ in desirable places to live. That doesn't seem super uncommon, though you might work a bit more for it (e.g. pick up an UC or a hospitalist shift a few times per month).
she seems like an amazing doctor. my primary care is wham bam thank you mam, I have things to do...which seems to be a bit of a trend..its refreshing to see a doctor who really cares and love what they do.
I believe she said in one of her videos that she gets 1 hour for annual physicals and 30min for regular visits. She’s lucky to get that amount of time. Most primary care offices care more about numbers and don’t give their providers enough time to be with the patient.
Agreed. I can even be ok with the wham bam, if there's even an ounce of grace with it. I once had to have an online appointment with the medical director of the practice, (love his mid levels...who always leave...not a fan of him)....who literally yelled at me and wanted to end the appointment as my visual went down, (audio was totally fine, and literally zero need for a visual). There were other instances as well. I'm in healthcare myself, (physical therapy transitioning to nursing), and I would be fired on the spot if I ever did anything remotely like the medical director has seemingly routinely done, (based on other online reviews). This physician sounds like she's 1 of 1.
those who whine about the quality of med, what do you do for a living? do you go above and beyond for the people whom you deal with or are you setting higher standards for medical doctors? that's called ebung selfish. in professional term, narcissism.
I am an oncologist and thinking to switch my specialty to family medicine. there is always pros and cons with each specialty. 3 years of residency is doable after a 5 years residency in oncology. I switch from clinical oncology to research but missing clinical work but did not feel going back to oncology. I am very hopeful now after this interview :)
I've always loved the idea of doing rural medicine and Dr. Le immediately sold me for specializing in FM. She is based in Seattle so I want to try and see if I can shadow :) Thank you for this video!
@@melviness4769 hi! Right now, i still have to do all my step exams and while prep, I also started working in an oncology clinic. Thus exposed me to IM. I am now half-hearted either FM or IM. Are you also a FM resident?
She handled it really well. But you rapid fire asked her so many questions right away that she couldn't get you or her coffee. She tried a couple times and then gave up. XD
I am glad she has a great work life balance. But the burnout happens more with FM physicians who are seeing 36 or more patient hours. FM physicians who are only in clinic 2 to 3 days a week definitely fare better. Most of these docs will still check messages, fill prescriptions, check emails, finish charts when not in the office so it can be done at a more leisurely pace compared to a doctor who is seeing patients 5 days a week. In addition, working 2 days a week means fewer patients so there are less messages, prescriptions, charts to do. It's important to paint a realistic picture if discussing a good work to life balance in Family Medicine. While I am happy for her, this is not realistic when discussing the high burn-out in Family Medicine. It is also not the case that everyone can afford to work part-time. I'm glad that this is working for her.
My favorite question for doctors in the series is introvert or extrovert? It seems majority are introvert people. Guess being too social you can’t focus on learning in depth and reading etc,
JewSa is so messed up. they mandate their citizens to get insurance but insurance companies will not insure you if you are sick. let that sink in for a sec. you cant get health insurance if you are sick. so what good is insurance then?
Omg I love this!! I’ve recently been accepted to medical school and have always been fixated on FM 🥹 I have been increasingly worried about work life balance was amazed to hear Dr. Le only working 2.5 days a week! Could we possibly learn more about how? 🩵 Thankyou so much for all that you do!
I love Dr. Jenny Le! I've been following her since the beginning of her residency!

its usually not the doctors fault. Its administration (who has no medical background making doc push numbers or they get dinged)
i love her. family medicine is honestly so intriguing to me.
Was not expecting to hear iron flame on here. I love her!!!!!
Been watching her videos for a while now. What a beauty…her husband is lucky af

Such a beautiful personality and pleasant to listen to. I’m considering FM too!

Beautiful video. Love the GP, and her views and how it works for her and family. Also love seeing doctors with kids and happy doing it all.
these videos get me the needed motivation every time
I don’t know what to pursue yet but this is making me reconsider FM again. Thank you for doing this! 🎉
so what r u pursuing?

I love her vibe!!!❤
This is so timely
I really wanted to know more about family medicine and now im really considering Family needed
Thank you so much for this❤❤❤
Love Dr. Le ❤
22:30 "You could probably throw me across this room right now." My man 🤣💀
Amazing doctor! How is she able to work 25 hours per week? Does that mean she's part time?
Love this video with my soul 🥺🥹
OMG she is soo cute
Can you do this for our audiologist in NYC?
it's unfortunate that where i'm at family medicine doesn't get the variety of options and flexibility 😭
doctors should be able to sue insurance companies for not covering MRIs. problem being th AMA leaders are all in bed with insurance companies.
YESS IRON FLAME. I'm reading that now but I can't say I listen to audio books while lifting hahaha.
She’s lovely ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love this. She is so personable

Can you tell how much does an average family physician earn working in outpatient dept of a hospital (in Canada)?
Search it up. This is in the United States.
Loved this

How does a family physician deliver babies?
Going to sleep at 2 am and waking up at 4 am is not suitable for anybody’s lifestyle🥲😂
