    Absolutely brilliant set up mate. I'm not a pessimist but to think I'm more of an optimist, is there a manual backup if your electric winch fails when putting your boat on and off your vehicle? Being a farmer still young or young at heart hehe will being doing this when I'm older when my kids can run the farm. Keep up the good work mate. Looking forward to seeing your next adventure 👍👌

    • @anthonydoherty1599
      @anthonydoherty1599 3 года назад +1

      There’s actually no weight on the roof from what i understand. He made a previous video about it. The racking system sits on a frame that is bolted in to the tray, no weight on the actual roof, so the manufacturers roof load rating doesn’t apply. Some will argue against that due to stability issues, but it’s his decision and thousands of kms later it’s still going strong. I rate it highly and will look in to the same setup in future.

I don’t go any lighter than 20lb line and that sorts most of em out. ;) you don’t need the highest end gear, it’s all about patience, time on the water, accurate casts and a smooth drag. Yehaaaaa.

    Awesome setup, just a little recommendation though - check what your vehicle is rated to carry on the roof. A mate was involved in an accident with a roof pod setup and his insurance wiped him when they checked the weight of it. Apparently most vehicles are only rated to a few hundred kilos?

    • @mylurebox

      Cheers mate. I’m looking into what I can on this topic. It’s hard to find a lot of the answers to be fair. Emails etc from Toyota and Jayco engineers is tough to get. The loader is mounted only through the tray. There’s nothing touching the roof itself. Still keen to dive in and find out more though

      The weight isn’t on the roof, it’s on a frame that’s bolted to the tray. Roof load limit doesn’t apply. He’s shown it in a previous video he did.

    • @anthonydoherty1599
      @anthonydoherty1599 3 года назад

      He’s done his research and believes different. Show me where it says that the roof load limit rating on a vehicle also applies to loads that are above roof level, even if that load isn’t being transferred through the original roof structure? The proof is in the pudding…..thousands of kms done on some of the harshest roads the country has to offer with no issues. Will it have an effect on stability? Naturally. But he’s not an idiot and likely adjusts his driving to suit.

    • @newport5504
      @newport5504 3 года назад

      @@anthonydoherty1599 I know what your saying but I’m just simply saying that’s a lot of weight on your roof very top heavy, I’m not asking what his roof load limit is, I’m sure it has an engineering plate and a approve to have that modification like an approved bullbar, you can’t have a bullbar that’s not adr approved, you can’t even have a fishing rod holder on your bullbar or a light bar above the bullbar, imagine this in a roll over, would definitely need to be approved, doing his research and the law is a lot different mate

    • @anthonydoherty1599
      @anthonydoherty1599 3 года назад

      @@newport5504 Any car with anything on a roof would be a mess in a rollover! Let’s stick with your point though…..please point out the law he’s not complying with? You can’t just say “that’s not compliant” and not back it up. And to be fair, it’s not a crap load of weight. It would be comparable to some roof top tents out there. It’s a light tinny with a small motor, some gear and a light trailer. I can have 200kg on my 200 series roof while remaining compliant. And you have to put things in context. If you’re going to change the stability due to weight being up higher, you also need to consider to increase in stability for all the weight that’s been included lower on the vehicle. He’s carrying a bunch of stuff lower down in the vehicle which will offset some of the stuff up high. You or I are in no position to point fingers and make judgements, he’s the bloke that’s engaged a professional to build the racking system as well as the boat loading system. He seems like a smart bloke to me who wouldn’t take unnecessary risk with his family. I’d never read any RUclips comments if i was making videos, too many people out there that think they know better because they only see part of the story. You could always just say “nice work mate, enjoy’!
