@@gluebreeza1999 like it or not, running around killing everyone who does something bad is bad on it's own, at least in legal terms, Ryu did this only to get blacklisted by the guild, who would risk their career for "justice", not even ryu, Ryu did it out of pure spite and to get her vengeance, she knows this isnt justice it's just an elf going on a killing rampage for everyone who made her miserable even if they are even slightly connected to the main reason
Edit: and even if you did do it for justice, the people you're trying to protect will get scared of a person that's killing people so easily without a second thought, don't get me wrong though, I think what she did is good even if that sound hypocritical

This episode was so brutal to watch, the animators and VA's really nailed the emotions of fear
One thing i really love about Danmachi is how they portray despair and fear but this episode took that to a next lvl. I felt like i was Ryu watching all of that. Juggernaut definitely lived more than enough to it's hype.
It's truly insane that no matter what form of "Justice" took place she did what her famillia wanted her to do which was bring peace to Orario... Even if the path was stained with bloodshed Kaguya would of probably told her she saved millions despite how many people she slaughtered for the sake of vengance.
There's definitely a bit of irony there. If it was Kaguya in her shoes, no doubt she would have been similarly ruthless in her literal execution of Evilus. Though I have a feeling she wouldn't have asked Astrea to leave but only asked her if it was ok to eliminate the deities involved. Justice can be swift, cold, and brutal. While anger in service of justice is justified, Ryuu undoubtedly killed some innocents during her purge... The exact ideal that Kaguya was trying to press on her.
For those that would only bring suffering and death to others, is it justice to visit the same upon them? Some would think so.

It was so sad watching Ryuu watching the members of her Familia passing on, and she didn't want them to leave her behind.

Crazy how we got so engaged and cared for them even tho they were showed a few times goes to show how good characters of Astrea were.
Imagine a timeline where Astrea survived that encounter and Ryuu was the one who rescued Bell from the Minotaur. I guess the story is written this way because Ryuu wouldn't be who she is right now if Astrea Familia members didn't make a sacrifice to stop Evilus.
Alise could have been such a great character to follow it's a shame things have to be this way.

They portrayed ryu's survivors guilt and ptsd really well, i winced when all her friends got killed one by one. The brutality of it reminded me of attack on titan in a way.

Ryu is such an incredible character and season 4 has easily been the best so far. And some say the arc for season 5 will be even better.
fully agree, i personally thought the show was at the bare minimum at least good until now but this season soared it to new heights, it's been amazing

Its a shame that so many people seem to hate Ryu. On the site I watch the show on, the comments seem to be split 50/50 on either liking her, or saying she's the worst part of the show. Personally, she is my favorite character, other than Bell himself.

This episode did a pretty good job at capturing the raw and sad emotions that Ryuu Lion and her Familia had.
Season 1 - Happy go lucky wholesome adventure
Sesame 4 - Blood C levels of violence and cute girls being brutally murdered.

It's crazy to think that that Ryuu literally singlehandedly (badass) ended the dark ages of Orario by wiping out multiple familias, played a major part in defeating the Goliath with Bell and Co., and is now fighting for her life in the deep floors, hasn't updated her stats even once in 5 years. She probably has every stat maxed rn 😂

In her path for vengeance, Ryu by her own hands ended the dark ages of Orario leading to the Orario we know five years after. Even though it wasn't justice, she had finished what her Familia had left off.
Ryu saw in Bell a piece of herself that she had forsaken and shattered by reality. She passed on what her friends had taught her to him and sacrificing her own life to make sure the young boy who still has a future can become someone greater. To her surprise, Bell DID take everything she taught her to heart but used it to make his ideals to escape the White Palace with Ryu a reality despite the high risk. Bell through her was becoming the kind of person that Alise described as being heroes.
It was brilliant writing to show those flashbacks at the start of each episode leading up to the massacre of the Astrea Familia because without them the brutal massacre we saw wouldn't have hurt so bad 😥
This season has been the best season since season 1. I was not expecting how gruesome the fight was going to be and really like the depth of character its added to Ryu

I was able to finish astrea record on the danmachi game right before the episode where the flashback where the astrea familia is massacred and damn did that episode hit harder than I expected.
Yeah, Astrea Familia are great. The crazy thing is I heard the novel version of Astrea Record is even better. Yen Press takes forever to translate and release abroad though.
The episode itself made me tear up... the context surrounding it (and the way you present it) have left me bawling my eyes out

Someone who strives too hard for an unrealistic ideal and someone who has no ideals.
One is struggling as best as they can to resist the absolute worst outcome and another who lets it happen.
This season made remember a lot of memorable scenes from Assassin Creed, especifically the philosophical differences between the Assassins and the Templar about morality

The VA these past few episodes have been killing it . They make you really feel what ryuu is going through
I'm just glad I'm catching up on this anime specifically. Usually I'm just waiting for every episode to air so I can binge it, but when I do just catch up as the anime is still ongoing on a season, and just freshly finished the latest ep, I wanna watch some videos about the cut content and what better way to watch it other than on AniNews' channel.
There have been NO animes, besides Devilman, that hook me up so badly about the story telling of their world. Not even OP (one piece) manages to get me hooked on the story telling as badly as DanMachi and Devilman do.
You'd be surprised that some of the best stories of this series are told in the anniversary events of a gacha game called Danmachi Memoria Freese. If you like Danmachi's story this much, not knowing those stories is almost tragic. We have 5-anniversary events till now, but only 3 of them are canon. My favourite is the 2nd-anniversary story, "Argonaut's Tale", which tells the story of an ancient hero (~3000 years ago) named Argonaut.
Think of them like Danmachi's movies. However, they are in a Visual Novel format and are quite long (Argonaut has 3 parts - 1, 2, and Extra. In total, it is a little more than 7 hours). If you don't mind those things, I strongly advise you to watch them.
It can be easily found on RUclips just by typing "Argonaut's tale".
I'll check 'em out now. Cheers. I have kept being exposed to very little content regarding it which I think it was the non-canon part of it and my mind being "yeah, this doesn't feel/look cannon so why should I watch" type of mindset. I guess I needed someone to confirm me about canon part of it.
@@MadGamer1337 Ah, great! To be more specific, the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th anniversaries are canon. 2nd anniversary is about Argonaut. 4th is about the dark ages, 7 years before the main story. It mainly focuses on Astraea Familia. Finally, the 5th is about Fianna Knights, who are contemporaries of Argonaut (takes place after 10 years after the ending of the 2nd anniversary).
The 3rd-anniversary also got turned into Light Novels a few months ago. Argonaut, too, is getting LN in the coming months.
I've seen a depressing amount of people skipping this episode because it's "filler" or "backstory" and every time I can't help but wonder how someone can be brought up so stupid.
They're also mostly the same people who were complaining about Ryuu being frozen in terror during the juggernaut introduction.

Wow, so Ryuu singlehandedly ended the dark era of Orario. She herself might think its just a selfish reason to redeem herself, to revenge for her familia or she just wanna force herself to think that way. But deep from inside she is still trying to pursue her ideal justice. Quotes from Bell's and Alise's in episode 9,
Bell: "The miss Ryu i know was always right. She knew better than everyone. So you didnt give it(the justice) up or cast it aside. That justice... It lives on. It lives on with you. In your heart."
Alise: "But i know Lion... She always does the right thing."

Kaguya stood out to me the most. Not only was she beautiful/a grown up version of Mikoto, but her ideology was amazing. I loved her realism.

They really nailed the depiction of despair and fear her familia felt in an instant. It was as if a rush of death came down pouring onto all of them and she was there just drowning in it. What a terrible faith they suffered.
honestly there is also something deeper there, despite her anger, despite her hate for the rudra familia, she was unable to push herself to send rudra back herself, she was there, she was angry but despite that she didn't lay a finger on him, I find that really interesting and kind of scary that not even in the throes of hate and revenge she still never landed a finger on any of the evilus gods, so what happens if a malevolent deity is running loose and causing harm, no-one not even if they had nothing to lose, not even if they lost everything to said god, can't bring themselves to say negative things to their face (not counting comedic scenes like with Loki, Hermes and Hestia) let alone pushing that god off a cliff and sending them back up, worse yet from what i hear from people online there are thoughts that if a mortal was to hypothetically do that society would be repulsed by the act even if the god was a murdering bastard and treat the guy as if he murdered Santa in an orphanage during a charity event.
so tldr: if you live in a town in the dan machi world and that town is plagued by an evil god doing horrific shit... you are either going to die by his hands or be ostracized from wider society.

Episode really was sad to watch as the Astrea Familia were not only utterly outclassed but the slaughter was truly merciless. They never stood a chance and many of them died without even realizing what was happening. Though the Amazon arguably got it the worst, struggling pointlessly against the monster, only to lose both her arms and then get eaten near the end.

I think Ryu has one of the most tragic back stories in anime, those she loved died, her very first friend by her own magic, truly a sad thing to happen and then her desire for revenge, thou she unintentionally bought about a new era to the city, thou one thing I am curious about is the bounty upon her head, is it still active, I know it's part of the cause of the present day events but is it still active I wonder? Thou I also kind of wonder will she ever meet her goddess again, I kind of think she should be the one to judge Ryu's heart and soul now that she tasted revenge and found it to be devoid of anything meaningful and the new bonds she has forged?

Ais is not human. She is half spirit. And in fact she is 1k years old. There should be an arc in the novel about her and it will be epic.

Vengeance brings many things very rarely does it bring peace.
This was retribution. Ryu might call it vengance but rudra and the rest of evilus fucked around and found out. In the end it might have been the only way to end them. She acted as a modern day agent will against an enemy organozation. She identified targets and eliminated them. Police are a band aid spyes and agents are the saw that cut out the rot.
