Thanks for sharing! It has been a long time since my last HG/SS play-through. They are such a unique set of games... guaranteed Shiny Gyrados and so many gym leaders who refuse to use anything except Gen 1 pokemon! I like your hat too :)

Going off of my HearGold playthrough using Cyndaquil as my starter.
    8. Bugsy - Metapod only has tackle and the Kakuna has poison sting. Even with a Bayleaf the only one you have to worry about is Scyther with its Uturn. But considering I picked Cyndaquil instead, his team was a cakewalk.
    7. Faulkner - Only real problem is if he gets a few sand-attacks off on your main attacker. (Also on a side note, I don't know if you can get Mareep that early yet, but maybe I missed something).
    6. Morty - I actually found this out recently, but you can actually cheese Morty very easily. Train up your Togepi and have it learn Extrasensory. Since Extrasensory is a psychic type move, it's supereffective against Morty's team and they can't hit you with any of their possible ghost attacks. Now Hypnosis might be a challenge alongside Gengar's Sucker Punch, but if you have Yawn and/or Sweet Kiss, it won't be too long before the Fog Badge is yours.
    5. Jasmine - The main issue with Jasmine is that you don't get too many good Ground types in the Johto games. So her two magnemite can be a problem if you don't have a solid game plan. The Steelix should go down quickly provided you have a decent water type (which the game gives you in the form of Gyarados).
    4. Whitney - Similar to Morty, Whitney was easy for me to cheese with Quilava. Two good Fire Blasts from Quilava are just enough to take out her Miltank. The problem is that if you didn't pick Quilava, you better hope your Croconaw gets some good luck with its Ice Fang. You could also use Bayleaf's status moves to poison miltank, but you'd have to contend with terrible accuracy, her Miltank's Milk Drink, and Whitney's Super Potions.
    3. Pryce - Needless to say I had more trouble with Pryce than I thought I would (the same can be said for #2 as well). His Pilowswine and Dewgong gave my Quilava some extra trouble due to type mismatch, and my Magneton also had issues despite having Magnet Bomb and Spark respectively. His team is kinda built for bulk and with Hail setup, causes the fight to be more drawn out than you'd expect.
    2. Chuck - Honestly, him having two pokemon isn't really as bad as it sounds when your two are fully evolved and have a pretty solid moveset for that point in the game. If I'm right, his Primeape also has Rock Slide which can deal huge damage to your flying types. Focus Punch is also a threat as you have to attack while the opponent is focusing, otherwise you're getting hit with a 150 STAB fighting move off a pokemon with high attack power. If you take time to heal, restore, revive or switch out, your pokemon taking the Focus Punch will be destroyed on contact.
    1. Clair - Honestly obvious #1. You have no counters against her unless you love the Game Corner in Goldenrod (you can get Dratini there, but at a high price). All her pokemon are very high level and Dragon has so many resistances It's wild.

Thank you for sharing your detailed and extensive ranking on the Johto gym leaders from your experience. Most people who never attempt trying that but I do read all of the comments I receive and the detailed and long comments are always my favorite. So thank you again for taking the time.

@@3TopicsReviewerYou're very welcome. Also, gotta admire your dedication to Chikorita.
Chikorita is definitely a Hard Mode run if you're playing the game casually, but that's what Pokemon has always been about (picking your favorite Pokemon and going to town on the challenges).

Forget fire types for the steel gym… take a ground type and/or a fighting type. You have a much better shot with a Golem or a Machamp than you do with a Magmar.

Tell that my Magmar that took out all 3 of those pokemon with Fire Blast.
