APP was designed 1st to be a stacking program with processing added. PixInsight is a processing program that has had scripts added to do stacking. APP is faster, uses less disk space, and I can see no discernible differences in the final stacks. Also, for mosaics, APP is far easier to use. Just my opinion, but as with all of us, it has just become my standard. We all have different workflows that we use.
