You are a lucky guy to have them. I remember them well from my time at the BBC when they were very highly regarded. Particularly the version you have without the integral power amplifier....BC1A. They also had a BBC Type number beginning LS5 and were heavily used on Outside Broadcasts in the OB sound trucks...where they were adequately loud in such a confined space. the active versions..BC1A gave a lot of trouble as the amplifier was unreliable...and tricky to fault-find as I recall...although others had better luck I remember repairing them at Maida Vale and at Langham Place. The items you refered to as Transformers in the passive crossover are in fact chokes...iron cored coils.
