This GMT took me by surprise. Not because it is different in its design but because it has a refined edge. A clean, simple aesthetic that will have great longevity. It always amazes me when a $200 watch can pull off such a great result. What are your thoughts on the Q-Timex GMT? Generic or something worth looking into?
I bought the black because it’s not trying to be a Pepsi or a Batman although those look great. My only issue is the rubber strap instead of a bracelet. It’s a great way to get a GMT for £200 and if you are new to Timex they give you a 15% coupon

Fun, affordable, practical, functional,…. Yes I believe Timex covered these points and more. What I wouldn’t give to still have that watch today! Thank you for another splendid job on this video presentation. Very well done as always.

As an owner of the Pepsi version of this new Q gmt, I can say it’s 100% worth the price. It’s everything you pointed out. I even took it a step further and modified a jubilee bracelet to fit. It’s a fantastic little piece and it brings me lots of joy throughout a day of wearing it.
Loved this review and the proposition that Timex has put forward. Thank you for doing this, your insights into the design are thoughtful and considered, and highly valuable to hobbyists like me. Please keep it up 🙏
Awesome video and comments on Timex, I just purchased a Timex GMT, best value for money hands down. The expensive brands are not worth those big dollars. They are no way that much better.
4:35 - I agree. Most people point at some watches and repeat "Rolex this Rolex that" but seeing beyond the compared designs (like these two GMTs) have something in common - they're the basic that works. Rolex doesn't own "basicness" as much as they don't own colours (as when last year when some people said that Omega homaged Rolex for adding colours to the Aquaterras...).
A very well executed Rolex homage from Timex. Like you said, it being a Quartz watch is a great choice by Timex. It makes this look even more accessible for those who don’t want to be resetting or winding their watches too often. Great design. It’s a shame that Timex can’t take all of the credit for it though. Another great video my friend. ✊
I own a Timex Pepsi Q 3 hander and it is quite the charmer. Hope to get the call one day for a Rolex Pepsi on Jubilee, but until then, the Timex Q keeps me happy. The GMT is even nicer, they should sell a lot of these.
A Rolex GMT is a dream... they really did strike gold with the model and its evolutions (I'll definitely be holding thumbs for you Danny) And thank you for sharing!
Great review! I'm happy you're still very willing to comment on these (much) more affordable pieces! By the way, you already own the best everyday world time classic, the Casio ae1200
It's mind-blowing what Casio manages to do with their machines, right? No wonder they sell by the millions (probably billions) ;) Hope you're well Danny and thank you for taking the time to watch the clip!
@@ID-Guy That Casio replaced any desire for a practical GMT, with it being so cheap and study. My Pepsi dreams have been dampened! This Timex, may be worth a shout... Affordable, low maintenance, and like the Royale, I can wear it anywhere without being completely anxious with it on wrist!
I’m sure the Rolex inspired looks + the 5KX gmt announcement are the driving factors around why this is being overlooked. That said I bought the blue one and love it! Definitely taken time away from my BB58 and is a great summer watch!
The good ol' 65. Such a fun piece I'm finding myself wearing more and more. I'd highly recommend beige or black (thats what I use most of the time with it) And thank you PJ! Have a great end to your week.
I'm not sure why this isn't being talked about more. I do see them posted occasionally (including today) on social media, but not as much as when the first Timex Pepsi Q came out. All the GMT variants are waitlisted though, so maybe they just haven't gotten enough into enthusiast hands. I think this is a great release. I personally wish it was 40mm, but it fits with the rest of the quartz Q line. I'm just a 2m tall person with an 18.4cm wrist, but I'm sure most people out there could wear the 38 perfectly. I may end up with a Black Bay GMT later this year anyway, because it did look great on my wrist the couple of times I've tried it.
Thank you for sharing this Sean AND a BB GMT would be ideal for you! For 18.5 cm's you'll be in great shape with a 41mm. I'm sitting at 17cm's and struggle to rock this Oris Dual Time (so it must be the same kind of experience for you with 38mm's). Go for Tudor, it'll never disappoint ;)
Agree with your. This is a better watch than the Moonswatch and you can get it at discounted prices now. I own the 61500 Rose Gold version. Unworn at the moment. Just stored safely. Good video, thanks for upload.🙂
Appreciate it brother and thank you! These pieces are golden... I just wish more people would see that this is a far better offering. Thanks for taking the time to watch the clip!!
So well put, it would be easy to just write this off as a homage, but you’ve picked out the merits in this watch and I definitely agree that this is what watches can be about. Great value pieces that give a lot. Not every watch has to be thousands of pounds worth. I’d have the black and blue bezel, very nice! Great piece 👍
I don't know how or why this piece sung to me but I spotted it and thought "damn, that looks clean" Just goes to show that every day is a school day ;) Thank you David and have a great end to your week!
I have the Q black/red version, always turns heads here in Dundee where the Timex factory was based many decades ago. Timex still has a stigma here for cheap functional and above all everyone in Dundee had a Frankenstein Timex of some sort.... great watches for conversation openers. Shame the factory is not still here, could have got one of the new ones for the price of a take-a-way meal or in the good old days a Levi's shirt. Ah the good ole days........Nice video, agree with everything you said, underrated and now like Rolex and Swatch - under supplied....
I have one of each of these. It's hard to argue that both the Q Timex and the Q Timex GMT are anything but marvellously styled and fun. Both of mine stay accurate to within a handful of seconds over the course of a month, which I think is good even for a quartz movement. Perhaps I was lucky there? A drawback with the GMT variant is that it is difficult to set the GMT hand correctly - there is "drift" in it so that once I have set it for my favourite foreign time zone, after an hour it becomes apparent that the GMT hand has "lagged" behind, so I have to reset it. It's necessary to pre-empt this lag and then wait an hour or two to see if I guessed right. That is a defect of a critical function of the watch, although workable. But what no RUclips review I have seen mentions is the problem with the time setting. After I have carefully set the minute hand, when I push the crown back in, it is almost guaranteed to jump forward or back by up to 2 minutes. It's very twitchy and I have yet to figure out a consistent work-around. This defect defeats the object of the hacking feature: What is the point of having synchronised seconds if your minutes are wrong? It drives me batty.
Very nice offering from Timex. I find this more appealing than the moon watches. Having an entry level watch for those new to the hobby is great. The classic designs are going to be copied. I am not sure what would be a new design these days.
Nice! Love my Q. My goto cycling watch. It sits with my tools and ticks away. Great size and aero low profile! Some great watches in Timex's range, yeah, a lot of homages, but, cheap, cheerful and help you find out what you like and develop your style.
I appreciate you spotlighting Timex from a design perspective. It’s easy to overlook more value oriented brands, especially within a discussion of the GMT complication. I just bought the Timex X James Brand collaboration watch with the white dial. It makes for a great lightweight EDC option, and your nato strap video tutorial from a few years back was just put to good use. Cheers.
Oh we're all just derivatives of our parents, aren't we? 😂😂 I'm really impressed with the all black one after I saw a review of it by a guy who uses a macro lens and points out dust and scratches on even $60000 Mosers. This Timex held up.
My dad has the same Diver 65 and I would love to get him that strap with deployant clasp as a gift. Where can I find it? Thanks for another great review!!
My pleasure Trevor and thank you for taking the time to watch the clip! The deployant is just a basic "butterfly" generic I found on eBay... It might be quite difficult to source. I'd recommend looking up leather deployant clasps on google. The Zulu strap I just cut the underside off and kept it as a "single pass".
I finally tracked one of these down in the Batman colourway below MSRP. Probably a sign that the hype has worn off now that Seiko GMTs are everywhere, but I love the small size and the light weight and don't mind quartz. Very nearly the perfect watch for a vacation where you still need to get work done - if only it just had a screw down crown!
Great presentation mate. Just got back from Spain for a little R and R. That Q timex batman would have looked really nice on my wrist while in Spain. Need me a Q Timex batman. Sign me up. Next time talk a slower and breath more deeply, LOL. Cheers!
Thank you for the video! An amazing looking watch for the money, and yes quartz is quite practical and fits the watch ethos perfectly. It’s a tempting watch, but often I find them a lot less comfortable to wear than higher end watches. The bracelet pinches the skin, the angles dig into your wrist, curious to know how the Timex performs on that front. It would be interesting to know if the sense of quality and robustness conveyed by photographs is confirmed in the flesh !
I enjoy how you express your appreciation for the work of the designer(s) and the little things they did to raise the impact of this watch beyond the sun of its parts.
I’m lucky enough to have inherited my grandpas 70s gmt and I got this watch cause I’m scared to wear the real one most of the time. It looks great and I work with people from every time zone in the US so I get a lot of function out of it.
Wait list... I swear its different in every country. It looks like the UK still has them (in limited amounts) but another damn waitlist... It's the gift and curse of buying online these days (or buying popular watches in general) ;)
I would be more than happy to wear this watch. Great price and a set it and forget it quartz movement. As you say the dial and bezel may borrow (heavily) from others but the case and bracelet make it its own. It's a sort of semi retro modern piece that looks like a possible offspring of a GMT Master 2 and a PRX? That makes me wonder now that Tissot have a 3 hander and a chronograph in the PRX collection can we expect a PRX GMT? No prizes for what it just might look like and would it be dismissed as a Q copy?
There was a great mention of Oyster Quartz in the comments and I thought, this could be a loose interpretation of what Rolex could have done if Quartz really crunched them in the late 70's. Funky integrated case, bracelet et al. A PRX GMT... now THAT would be something interesting!!
@@ID-Guy For a PRX GMT it might make sense for the bezel to have a dodecahedron shape but I guess that might put it at odds with the slightly curved case sides. Tissot, please make this watch.
Great review. Probably see an uptick in reviews and sales. Indeed "out of stock" on Timex website. Respectfully, not only are you my favourite RUclips watch channel content creator but could you also have a striking resemblance to one of England's all-time bowling greats and present test team member representing at Headington today BTW?
Take the time to continue the affordability theme in some future videos. Affordable dive, dress, and field watches that you consider are in line with your design principles. What would you add to the MoonSwatch and Timex GMT collection to round it out as a five-watch stable? Might an Orient watch join the recommendation?
Yes, yes yes... It great and everything, but like every other model like this, where can it be purchased? It´s not at the online store. This is one of many frustrating things of watch collecting. Greetings from MX.
It seems like it's available in some countries and others look to be struggling. You'd think these online stores would be able to cater for tens of thousands of orders by now, right? Judging by how we've seen this happen again and again with so many watches at this point. Thanks for bringing this to light Fernando!
Between this and the seiko 5 gmt I really don’t know where to put my money in…. Damn this is tough…. I hope you’ll begin to do the drink check again. Cheers
It's been an exceptional few days in the UK - sun is a rare thing ;) So things couldn't be better. Hope you're grand too sir and thank you as always for being one of the first people to see these clips!
Thank you so much for offering Dave but I reckon it would be a hassle to do between now and next week for you. I had no idea that they made these down to the exact detail in the 90's. It's such a quirky design ;) Thank you again for the offer sir!
Seiko 5 have a nice gmt auto But £400 Timex was, always as a child, the watch known by everyone in the 50’s & 60’s even moving to the 70’s then Seiko. Nice look Not a quartz fan.
Seiko 5's are sublime. I've just seen that new GMT release from them! They look killer! It's really interesting seeing how Timex sticks to that Quartz theme (with that late 70's flair) and somehow pulls it off with this model. The quartz pill is always hard to swallow for us sweeping diehards ;)
Anyone can copy Rolex GMT II design. At the end of the day, i will say it does look real good. I love my GMT II coke, i have tk be honest i saw the black dial Q timex and it kooks real good, enough that i would buy it.
I had the pleasure of seeing a special prototype OQ earlier in the year and man... what a charmer. It was one of those pesky perpetual calendar models ;) LOVED the bracelet on the model too - almost exactly like the Tissot PRX. Great shout though! It's like a loose interpretation of what Rolex could have done to the GMT in the late 70's!
I bought it, the black version. While it is beautiful, I would’ve preferred a true GMT and a screw down crown. Those two elements missing make it more of a novelty unfortunately than an everyday/travel watch. I would’ve paid more for those features
It's odd, right? I've seen that the hits the markers randomly. No idea why this happens with quartz models. If it's an alignment issue of it it's linked with the movement.
I'm sure they will be mixing and matching bezels and dials with these new variations. But the OG Day-Date will still remain the original in this series for sure.

Rolex should copy that dark model with black bezel and rubber strap … a good candidate for a dark titanium model 😉
All-Black Deepsea Titanium? ;) Exciting to think about!
Do they not make the batman bezel one anymore? I couldn’t find anything about it. It looks so good.
Whereabouts is this for retail? I can only see the Pepsi?
I’m lucky enough to have inherited my grandpas 70s gmt and I got this watch cause I’m scared to wear the real one most of the time. It looks great and I work with people from every time zone in the US so I get a lot of function out of it.
man PRX or this one. These integrated bracelets got me salivating
Promptly after finishing this I headed to the Timex website only to find out this watch has a WAIT LIST!
@@anthonystevens8683 Even an Octagon / Decagon would be great! It would be quite something to see them run with the idea!
Do not forget that the GMT hand, with the sun, is a compass.
I have the blue black and is beautiful .. I have luxury watches but I cant stop to wear this
Great review.
Good afternoon ID Guy
Great seeing you as always John!
Unashamedly derivative, but wears that badge of honor on its sleeve. Poetic 😭
I'd really like to see a version with a white dial, particularly with the pepsi bezel.
What do you think about the new Seiko 5 GMT?
What is up with that deployment clasp on the nato on the oris?
Between this and the seiko 5 gmt I really don’t know where to put my money in…. Damn this is tough…. I hope you’ll begin to do the drink check again. Cheers
I just don't want to change any more batteries.
I wish it was still in 40mm but I’ll get one regardless once they’re back in stock
Hope all is well
It's been an exceptional few days in the UK - sun is a rare thing ;) So things couldn't be better. Hope you're grand too sir and thank you as always for being one of the first people to see these clips!
So are we ignoring the deployant clasp on the nato strap on the oris?
Available at your local Costco
Where all the finest of fine quality goods can be found ;)
Hey, I love Costco😎
Not right now it isn’t.
@@underachievingwatchcollect1878 same here man!
@@flippinzippo9670 good to see you my friend 😎.
Pretty sure you could talk me into buying any watch.
Love my Q..
Tq…i need to buy this..no need for a que list at Rolex boutiques
Great vid. I have the original Oris Worldtimer if you want an example to support a side by side design comparison? 👍🏻
Thank you so much for offering Dave but I reckon it would be a hassle to do between now and next week for you. I had no idea that they made these down to the exact detail in the 90's. It's such a quirky design ;) Thank you again for the offer sir!
@@ID-Guy For interest, I asked Oris if the new bracelet would fit the old watch - it does not. So certainly some design changes there!
who makes the metal clasp that goes with that NATO?
This a very high CP retro watch , I would like to said.
Does it feel like 60g like old one
Seiko 5 have a nice gmt auto
But £400
Timex was, always as a child, the watch known by everyone in the 50’s & 60’s even moving to the 70’s then Seiko.
Nice look
Not a quartz fan.
@@ID-Guy
Absolutely
Had a few quartz but can’t gel with em.
Wow that's a lot of watch for the money.
Looks great - just 38 mm is too small ... imho, GMTs should be in the 40-42 mm range
Anyone can copy Rolex GMT II design. At the end of the day, i will say it does look real good. I love my GMT II coke, i have tk be honest i saw the black dial Q timex and it kooks real good, enough that i would buy it.
I love quartz watches. My automatic watches drive me crazy. It's too much for my life.
Might as well get a Steinhart GMT auto.
bit Oyster Quartz looking , but thats no bad thing.
Forget the Q, let's talk about that strap on your Oris. Is it an Oris strap, or did you pick that up elsewhere?
Frame The Date Window
The only thing bad about the blue and black combination is I can't get it in Canada.
I bought it, the black version. While it is beautiful, I would’ve preferred a true GMT and a screw down crown. Those two elements missing make it more of a novelty unfortunately than an everyday/travel watch. I would’ve paid more for those features
Well thought out package that can pull normies away from cheap digital watches and back on the right track.
it's like buying a MoonSwatch.
Yeah. But explain and expand upon that deployment clasp on that NATO strap?
Hope it will last more than warranty, as here in PL this brand is known to be unreliable.
We'd hope that over time they'd improve that QC (especially when they're in such high demand)
Shame the seconds hand doesn't hit the markers......
It's odd, right? I've seen that the hits the markers randomly. No idea why this happens with quartz models. If it's an alignment issue of it it's linked with the movement.
Seems to be a Timex thing.
Imagine if mechanicals had to hit markers. I mean if we had a microscope, we'd find they don't hit the markers either.
765 O'Kon Run
Acrylic crystal is a deal-breaker
Needs day and date
I'm sure they will be mixing and matching bezels and dials with these new variations. But the OG Day-Date will still remain the original in this series for sure.
What is GMT please? TIA.
671 Windler Springs
I’m sorry to say that but if Timex continue to use acrylic and cheap bracelets well their watches aren’t worth buying.
