I was surprised when I heard that Razer Phone wouldn't have a headphone jack, especially because most gamers like hardwired things. It's the fact of having one less interruption during a gaming session. It's just a given thing. Also, that vibration sounded like absolutely awful. Lol
CMShortboy yeah people make fun of Apple for actually making an effort to improve the little things like vibration (Taptic Engine).. but it makes a difference. I don’t want my phone sounding like a rattling sack of shit.

It would have been good for them to include USB C headphones in the box as compensation. It would not have to be mindblowing like HTC's USonic, but a good set would have been nice. Vibration motor sounds like the old motor style that was not mounted properly.

I have the iPad Pro 10.5 and I have to say the 120htz frame rate ruins your eyes because you basically never want to use anything less, everything else looks bad after using it.
I find it funny that you say no phone looks quite like this, when the Sony Xperia line has looked almost exactly like this since forever, even with the same fingerprint scanner on the side (even though you can't use it in America due to patent issues). Come to think of it, you don't really do any videos on Sony phones, why is that?
the camera isnt shit, and for /my/ case at least, i dont think ive ever plugged, or used, headphones with my phones for the last 3-4 ive had, needless to say while charging, So, not a big deal to me.
Bluetooth headphones are so much more convenient than any wired headphone. I’m never going back to wired after getting my first BT pair. I don’t see what the big deal about the 3.5 mm jack is. It’s outdated and time to move on.
This isn't a phone for gamers it's one with features that everyone can take advantage of, the speakers, the display refresh rate, the battery, these aren't just gamer specific features, they will benefit every single one of the users greatly
If you're fighting on behalf of 'the general user', 'the general user' will want a good camera. Marquez gave this a D+ which is UNACCEPTABLE at this price. The only reason why I'm glad this phone exists is that I'm genuinely for the next razer phone, and for them pushing industry standard for both audio and FPS quality. True gamers don't buy razer phones. They buy PC. However, pc games didn't exist before the PC, so now that hardware is stepping up to software requirements we can FINALLY get decent games on the mobile playstore. These are exciting times.

Yes, it will greatly improve dynamic range, color, and white balance if you install the Pixel 2 camera app with HDR+ through XDA. However, it will never be on the level of even 2016 flagships. A $200 phone like the Honor &x or Xiaomi A1 has a far better camera, which is really sad considering they're less than a third of the price of this phone.
Quite possibly but don't just go and get the "Google camera" app, loaded it up and there were no settings, other than what you get in the built in app. HDR and flash is about all you get atm which is sad considering how much I love the rest of the phone
Dont worry too much.. the update soon to come is promised to have those flagsip features like Portrait mode and also you're general slow motion and all the usual features. The camera has a great setup...the razer update just has to go ahead and take advantage of it which they will do. They are not looking to make a new phone for a while so they will go all out on this phone while they can
I'll 2nd that. I love my V20 and got the ZeroLemon battery for it. Yeah, it's a brick & a half but I can go DAYS without charging it. Otheriwse, it's a great phone and hoping the V30 ups that (minus the non-removable battery & no headphone jack).
I've given up on LG and I think a lot of reviewers have too. Every single one I've had has been a total POS with the worst build quality I've ever seen. I hated my G5 so much that when the screen died (no drops, nothing, it just stopped working), rather than spend ~$80 on fixing it I spent $550 on a oneplus 5. My only regret is wasting my money on the G5 in the first place.
Maybe it bricked like all other phones LG makes. I've been burned too many times already by LG and their phones fucking up for no reason and have since switched to Oneplus. Also 4GB RAM? It might be good for year with that kind of RAM.
Yeah, I get Razer's mindset of creating a gaming phone, but really the only people who game mobily are kids under the age of 7 on their iPads, some teenagers/adults when they're bored enough in the couple of hours of free time they get every month, 40-50 year old mothers who still play Candy Crush, and Dave, the only guy still playing Pokemon Go. That's not big enough of an audience to sell a product to. Not really expecting a Razer Phone 2 considering the entire crowd of mobile gamers aren't really dedicated to playing Asphalt 8 and 8 Ball Pool enough to buy an entire phone geared and marketed towards enhancing that experience. I want to like it because of the 120 Hz refresh rate and the dual speaker setup, but it's just too niche of a product. I like having buttery smooth performance, super loud and crisp speakers, and battery life that lasts me through the entire day without worry, but I also like my phone to look nice and to take decent pictures.
Hovercraft I’d have to disagree with you. I’ve been a mobile gamer. The reason there are mobile gamers is because the inability to afford consoles or a good PC to game on. Yes, a phone is expensive too but a phone is pretty much a necessity more than a console or a PC. It’s really ironic though that most mobile gamers I know are like how I am but yet most mobile games just try to cash grab. Mobile gaming ranges from teens to 20s and it really depends on where you live. Mobile gaming for sure is not popular in western countries but it is popular in Asia. You’ll find knock offs of other games on your phones but some of them are actually good. I live in the US and I don’t find very much people that like playing on their phone so I just play with my siblings. Also “mobile” gaming is actually not a thing. People just stay home and play unless they are mini games like Jetpack Joyride or Fruit Ninja. But I’d have to say that mobile gaming made me start to like other games like League of Legends even though my PC is very slow.

K-radrumble with dedicated heatsink setup, I suspect it will performs better than any other sd835 devices due to less thermal throttling. I use Mi6, it even delivers good performance for Wii games.

Yeah but sony's sensors tend to be a bit worse in their own phones and the camera app is usually fiddly to control/switch settings, so even though I like the design of sony's phones I avoid them for the same reason as the razer, I want a good camera and experience using it.
razor, LITERALLY the only reason that I didn't break my dedication to Samsung and switch to you is because your phone is not water resistant. I would have even switched carriers, which I would have needed to since I'm on a CDMA carrier (Verizon). You really missed the boat on this phone by not including water resistance. Even Samsung only attempted going back from that choice for one iteration and then realized it was a huge mistake...and then Apple jumped on the bandwagon and included resistance as well. No modern flagship should not have water resistance these days. I use my phone in the shower, in the rain, etc. I even go on bike rides in the rain, watching movies on my S7 Edge. I can't do any of that with the Razor phone, so it's game over for this gaming device.
Nice in-depth review as always. It is unfortunate that this phone excels in many key aspects yet falls in some ones that are deal breakers such as the camera and no headphone jack. Overall though, for those looking for a phone purely for gaming, media consumption and audio, this is a solid buy.

I'll never understand why volume buttons, or ANY buttons for that matter are on the left side. It's impossible to reach that side while still holding the phone normally. Windows Phone had it right, and a couple of Android vendors do it right today. ALL BUTTONS ON THE RIGHT, PLEASE!
This one focused too heavily on gamers only. The camera should have @ least been acceptable. Headphone jack should have stayed b/c gamers like that. But...let's see what happens next year.

The telephoto lens is used for zooming in closer without losing quality in the image. I use the 2x optical zoom infinitely more than portrait mode on my iPhone X. So yeah, dual cameras aren’t just for portrait mode and the Pixel 2 (at least the XL) should have included them.oh and he bashed this for removing the headphone jack, yet his favorite phone doesn’t have one either.

Yeah but sony's sensors tend to be a bit worse in their own phones and the camera app is usually fiddly to control/switch settings, so even though I like the design of sony's phones I avoid them for the same reason as the razer, I want a good camera and experience using it.
No headphones jack= +1 hour battery and THX DAC in the dongle for upgraded sound. Happy to have that exchange in my razer phone!

razor, LITERALLY the only reason that I didn't break my dedication to Samsung and switch to you is because your phone is not water resistant. I would have even switched carriers, which I would have needed to since I'm on a CDMA carrier (Verizon). You really missed the boat on this phone by not including water resistance. Even Samsung only attempted going back from that choice for one iteration and then realized it was a huge mistake...and then Apple jumped on the bandwagon and included resistance as well. No modern flagship should not have water resistance these days. I use my phone in the shower, in the rain, etc. I even go on bike rides in the rain, watching movies on my S7 Edge. I can't do any of that with the Razor phone, so it's game over for this gaming device.
Nice in-depth review as always. It is unfortunate that this phone excels in many key aspects yet falls in some ones that are deal breakers such as the camera and no headphone jack. Overall though, for those looking for a phone purely for gaming, media consumption and audio, this is a solid buy.
