Brian, what a great video. I’ve had me vehicle that I purchased pre-owned and it had some really bad etching. Needless to say I’ve tried a number of different methods to get the windows clean. I purchased the pads and Meguiars. I went slow and took my time with 2-3 applications. Wow, what a difference it made. Love the channel and the content you put forth. Thank you 🙏
Brian, I would bet you can't believe how some people neglect their expensive vehicles. I had to get after my daughter for not changing her wiper-blades. Myself, a new clean windshield is so enjoyable.
After watching this I bought the Meguiar’s water spot remover. I hadn’t used it until I took delivery of my 2019 Regal TourX. I told the dealer not to do any prep since I would take care of it and would be doing a new car prep and protection anyway. After removing numerous scratches and wet sanding/ and poor polishing marks, I went to work on the windshield with all the water spots and transport covering residue. This stuff worked amazing! Perfectly smooth and clear glass, topped off with Aquapel. I know this video is older, but that k you so much for the tips in this. I can see clearly now the spots are gone.
Great video! I recently polished glass with a Rayon disc a few weeks ago. I had never done it with a specialty disc before I always did it with cutting pads. The disc makes a big difference IMO.
I think i scratched my glass with one of those harder pads. Do you think i can remove these light scratches that i cant feel with my finger nail with a soft felt pad?
You should record it with magnifier and bright lamp again after completion to see the real difference. The comparison should be based on equality, not showing scratch with special tools and then just showing it from a distance with normal video.
I would like to know if light pitting can go with this method. By pitting i mean road rash. Very small spots. Annoying in the sun but they are roughly the depth of a wiper scratch
Thanks for the video. I tried to buff out some scratches ( light swirls) with ceriglass and a sonax foam pad with a da but no success at all. I gave it 5-7 passes then again another 3-4 and I ve been hitting the glass for around 30 mins with no success. Also applied a lot of pressure but again nothing . Any suggestions? I didn’t let the glass heat at all and used water all along combined with ceriglass. It is very annoying when driving at night
I’ve removed scratches to an acceptable level using ceraglass, misting water, a rayon pad, and a 3 inch da polisher with an 8mm throw. However I don’t know how to remove the haze I’ve created. Any tips for which combo I should use? I have access to lots of polishes and pads.
Sir, you are what makes RUclips great! THANK YOU so much for sharing all that super valuable info with all the DIY'ers out there. Keep up the excellent work!
Nice approach to polishing out wiper marks. Good tip on heat on the glass. I have seen that impact melt Down backing pads with some dedicated glass polish.
I did a clay bar followed by a coarse metal polish followed by a fine metal polish. It didn’t come out nearly as nicely as yours did in the video but at least I’m not getting glare from the imperfections anymore. I’ll have to try this out! With my luck, I’ll get it perfect and then a rock will fall off a dump truck and crack it 😅
Brian, I own a windshield repair company and occasionally refer customers for replacement for scratches, like the one seen here. Approximately how much improvement was restored by your polishing methods?
do you need the "semi permanent coating" to protect it, or will it be ok without it? how bad would it be to not d o that, will it get micriscratches again failry quickly or sun damage, water damage etc? what does the "semi permanent coating" do? (sorry i have no idea how all this works)
What if you just wanna do a deep clean with minor scratches (washing, claying and light razorblade if needed) and only have "normal" compound and polish things (I have megs 105-205 and solo m8632) and just regular foam pads with a da polisher.. What would you recommend? I do have the mf pads from megs as well
You must be in Canada because I have never heard anyone call a windshield a windscreen except people in England. But I got to say that was best demo I have seen. I think I could do it.
I actually messed my glass up once I used the carpro pad and at some point it must of had a speck of dirt on it left mini circles the size of nickel on my windshield now I’m afraid to do glass since
You need a link for a 5" Polisher. I have a 6" Craftsman circular sander/polisher but the pads have a hole in the middle to hold on. These pads, are what, stick on? Can a use an attachment for a drill? Best video on this I watched. My stupid wiper marks aren't too bad to try this. Thanks.
What was the power tool you were using? What brought me here is I have some scratches on a scanner image sensor head I need to remove. The glass surface is only 9" long and 1" wide but the replacement is $300. This is worth a shot....Thanks, good job on that.
I only have one scratch on my windscreen. The wiper blade slipped off and the claw that holds it swept across the glass about 5 times before I realised. I think I'm going to need something stronger like a brick to fix it

I love the glass latency idea. I’m a small mobile detailer here and it would be another great service to offer. But my project car I picked up, the windshield is just gunk and not smooth even after ceriGlass polishing, and additional polishing. I think it could benefit from a real pro treatment. Submitting a glassparency application isn’t agreeing to payment of a kit is it? I just want to see how much it would run for the basic kit. Again, I’m just a small detailer that offers mobile services for interior but I could expand a little to this.
My car's windows had a problem with sand getting stuck on them. The dealership polished the glass to clean it, but now I can clearly see fine, hairline scratches, especially in daylight or direct light in the evening. Will this method resolve the issue, or is there no solution for these cases?
I think I might try this. My t-tops have so many minor scratches and I'd rather not replace them. I wonder if this would be able to help them look a lot better.
This process will not work on that sort of damage. For a scratch you can feel, contrary to his statements in the video, they can be repaired. The process is just a little different. To remove deeper scratches that you can feel, you’ll need to sand/grind the glass to the bottom of the scratch. Feathering out the glass in all directions. Then polish the glass back to transparent, but not with rubbing compounds and such that are used for paint. Instead use Cerium oxide mixed with water and use it on a felt pad such as a Festool felt pad. I do not recommend trying to tackle such a repair if you have never done any sort of clear coat scratch repair such as on the paint of a car. He was accurate in his statement that you need to be careful of heat when doing all of this. Too much heat, over 150-180, you will likely warp or distort the glass. Or worse, break the glass. 😮 Long story short… scratched glass can be repaired. The severity of the scratch will change the approach and products used. Hope this helps.

I have a glass spot issue with the glass on my boat that I have not been able to correct yet. I believe the spots were left from using hard water during routine cleaning. I have tried two different glass polish products, including the 3M Professional Glass Polish but have had no positive result. I thought the 3M product would have cut the glass a bit but no. I am using glass polishing pads and applying by hand. The space behind the glass is limited, may not be able to get rotary machine behind the glass. How much does something like this typically cost. Usually do things my shield most is possible but not worked to much with glass. I have a windshield that looks like someone buffed over it and has left some faint swirls in places. I dont think they are very deep. Not very noticeable until at night is kinda of a pain in certain lights. Not insane but annoying for sure.

Great video. Do you have any suggested last stage products that can be purchased by the consumer? I am using AquaPel at the moment as a repellent and it works great but I have to be more like 50mph before the water will run off the windshield so would like something more hydrophobic.
Is it safe to buff your windshield? many detailing companies here in the Philippines don't do that or don't recommend buffing windshield scratches as it might get broken.
