here's a transcript to chatgpt this
My name is Madeline Wood and welcome to my TED Talk. That is so cool, I have always wanted to say that. In fact, it's actually a bucket list item of mine to do a TED Talk. Now you might think, if it's on her bucket list well I'm sure she was really passionate or already knew what she wanted to talk about. But in fact it was completely the opposite. I struggled to find a topic but it was in that struggle that a topic kind of just came to me. You see, it all started a few months ago when I signed up for a 120 day crossfit challenge. The challenge including aspects of tracking your nutrition, tracking your mindset, your sleeping habits, and going to crossfit five days a week among some other things. Now I was really successful in the challenge. I came in second place and I was very proud of myself. But it got me thinking, how could I apply that success to other areas of my life? Like my relationships, my school work, and ultimately developing this talk. And that's when I realized it all came down to one thing, goal setting. Now, I'm not talking about your traditional SMART model goal setting techniques. I'm talking about passionate goals. Because, if you're not passionate about your goals, then you're not going to achieve them. Once you establish that passion, you have to work towards your goals, every single day. And this is a huge part of why I was successful. Every day I had to track my nutrition and ultimately, this reminded me of what my long term goal was and developed healthy habits that I could keep long term. So that, even when my motivation failed, my habits were what kept me going. A sub goal that I had during the crossfit challenge was to climb a rope. Every day I would work on developing my arm strength, or working on my footwork. And then it was climbing half way up the rope, three quarters up the rope, and before you know it, I was doing rope climbs like a pro. But I would not have been able to achieve that if I hadn't been passionate about doing rope climbs to begin with. And had I not practiced it every single day, even on days when I didn't feel like going, I still had my habits that would push me and it would just become an automatic response. The next thing is to not let life stand in your way. So often with teenagers especially, I hear them say you only live once. And while that is true, and I do want you take risks and live your life to the fullest, it is important to not use yolo as an excuse to make decisions that are going to stand in the way of your long term goals. Yolo, I'm going to eat this whole pizza by myself, yolo I don't feel like going to the gym today, yolo I'm not going to do my homework or I'm not going to get a summer job because you only live once am I right? Well, I'm wrong. Because, if I had said yolo I'm going to eat this whole pizza by myself or yolo I don't feel like going to the gym today, I would not be standing before you giving you a talk about goal setting. It's all in your attitude, if you go into it with a bad attitude, you're going to have a bad experience. Lastly, and arguably the most important thing is to remember that your goals are not always about yourself. And by this, I mean it's okay to rely on other people and to ask other people for help. One huge part of crossfit that I wish that I could go back and do differently was relying more on my friends, my parents, my coaches, and my teammates, because if I had have relied on other people, it would have helped me, help help them help myself. I think that the most important thing is remembering that other people are on a journey to reach their own goals too. And by lifting each other up, you're creating a more positive outward attitude rather than a selfish internal one. What goals do you have for yourself? What do you want your future to look like? You may not know this yet and that is completely okay. But, the most important thing to remember is that once you establish what you're passionate about, stick with it, because your initial motivation, practice every day will become your habit. And habits are what is going to keep you on track long term. Then, don't let life stand in the way, take the risks because you do only live once so don't make choices that are going to stand in the way of your end goals. And lastly, bring other people up with you. If you stepped on every along the way to get to the top, that's not fulfillment, and you're not gonna be happy with yourself once you've achieved your goals. I just want to take a moment to thank everybody who supported me and my goals. As I mentioned, giving a TED Talk is something that's on my bucket list, and something that I'm really excited to be a part of today. But had I not had other people to support me, I wouldn't be here before you. So just remember that you only live once and do what you love.
