    Re-assembly: "Do the same thing, but backwards!" That's a major cop-out, guys. I was able to get it done but there were definitely a few things I wish I had known ahead of time, e.g. reapplying the new adhesive strips, putting the screen back on correctly. Also, the "just gently pull the adhesive strips out from under the battery" step is garbajjjj; any phone that's old enough to need a new battery will have brittle adhesives that will snap under pressure, every time. Better to just let people know ahead of time that they'll need an iOpener.

    • @Simple_Jackass
      @Simple_Jackass 5 лет назад +9

      @@Orlanzepol123 - it's really not that difficult though, and it's actually fun. The things he complained about are pretty much givens... you take out adhesive strips, you're going to have to add the new ones, you take off the screen, you're going to want to re-align it properly, as for the brittle-ness of the adhesive strips, THAT is actually good advice to know. I had the same hesitation when doing this, but I've done it on three phones now, for myself and a couple friends, and it's actually really easy, way cheaper...

    I watched the video a few times and then went to work.
    Before starting I printed up a photo of the open phone board and then put a black dot on the image near the location of each screw. I then placed some double sided tape on the picture next to those locations.
    As I removed each screw I placed it on the double sided tape next to the location in the picture. I also placed the two metal covers the same way.
    Removing the screen was a lot harder than I expected. But in the end I won. (I had already decided the phone is years old now so if I stuffed it, that would be a good reason to get an upgrade)
    I next got past the battery removal with the help of a hair dryer. The first strip came out okay but the other two were not as accommodating. Knowing the risk of damage if I damaged the battery I took my time and warmed it then lifted a little before warning it some more. In the end it came out.
    The rest was as per the video except.
    My big issue was the screws. They are easy to remove but so very very small when you are attempting to reinstall them. (I am in my 60s) If I did this again I would work on a totally clean space, just me, the phone and the tools. Something with raised edge so if a screw falls it cant roll away and get lost. None were lost this time but that was only by luck.

    Just a tip for anyone that is trying to do this. Absolutely when you are initially trying to get the screen off make sure you have the spudger underneath the frame of the screen. I did it properly for the left side, but for the right side I ended up prying the screen between the frame and the glass of the screen. This caused the frame to break at a weak point and I had to file it down a bit in order to get the screen to sit flush once again. However I did not have the proper adhesive to use between the glass and the frame so this cause the glass to remain popped out slightly. So just waning everyone to make sure that the spudger is all the way under the screen before prying. If you are doing it correctly than you should be able to inset the spudger at least an inch under the screen and then twist. If you aren't on the right place than you will only have the tip of the spudger under the screen and this is where it could break the frame by prying the glass away from it and the digitizer.

    Nicely done! Good you noted to disconnect battery first 👍. The other thing is you don’t actually have to remove the screen connectors. It’s just convenient to get it out of the way but as long as you have the opened screen supported at 90 degrees solidly, no need to remove it. Remove adhesive strips, battery, replace strips, battery, reconnect, lower screen and power on to test. The less you have to mess with these little micro connectors, the better off you are. Don’t disturb anything you don’t have to.

    • @davenuttall3682
      @davenuttall3682 4 года назад +10

      I agree I did just that , undid the two screws, opened the screen 90 degrees, taped it to a box to stop it opening any further. Undid the two battery screws NOTE they are different sizes, disconnect battery. Pulled out the adhesive strips and the battery is free. Put new adhesive strips on and reassemble . I had never done it before and it took 5 mins. Bought the whole kit of battery and tools together on ebay for £9.

    Here’s a tip: loop a shoelace or similar strong twine around the top of the leg of your table, then hook the suction cup grabber post to it and pull the iPhone with one hand. This enables you to use the spudger tool with a completely free hand.

    Everything worked out for me in the end, thank you. The adhesive strips didn't come out well at all so I ended up having to carefully but forcefully pry the battery out. The battery got very hot as it was bent into submission! Other than that it was fine. The adhesive strips that came with the new battery were just the same so it was pretty obvious how to apply them and I simply did everything else in reverse. Whilst prying the screen off I had to overcome the resistance of the adhesive seal which all peeled away, I'm assuming that it won't have quite the same amount of water resistance now but I'll just have to take that into account in use.

  • @marcopilas

    I agree with Michael and Dave Nuttall below, you don't really *need* to remove the screen connector cables as long as you can rubber band the screen up at a less than 90 degree angle to something like a soda can, bottle of something heavy, etc. This is because you do NOT need to fully detach the screen to replace the battery on a 6s. I just did this very thing today on a 6s. I only unscrewed the pentalobes and the battery connector cable. The 6 is nice and easy compared to the newer phones, which have increasingly tiny internals.

    A gently warming of the edges of the screen and the back of the case (in the area of the battery) makes for fairly easy removal of screen and battery, just go real slow when pulling the battery adhesive strips, thanks for a great video.

    don't you hate all the adhesive in all the electronics these days. I remember the iFixit episode where you brought in a professional watch repair guy and he mentioned that in the watch industry its unheard of to use glue because parts need to be serviceable..Now translate that to the usual rant Apple always delivers about how recyclable there products are. Well this might be true. They won't go so far in to making there products serviceable hmm

    Watch out folks when it comes to removing the adhesive strips. I have changed two batteries on these phones and the adhesive strips do not come out as easily as this video shows. As a matter of fact, they usually break before coming out all the way. Then you have no choice but to try and pry up the battery. At least this video speaks of an alternate removal procedure. Bend the battery just a little and it shorts out and will cause your phone to burn up. I speak with experience because I had to throw away my last phone. I strongly suggest having a professional change out the battery.

  • @Soulaliss

    If you don’t want the adhesive to snap don’t pull it so far away from the battery pull it closer and slower

  • @coljwm

    Give us non-magnetic screw drivers, and Say something about reinstalling those battery adhesive strips in the video. Not just reverse install. Also a tiny screw dimension chart to make sure we install them correctly, or slow down the removal steps, so we can estimate which tiny screw goes where. Replacement kit not recommended for someone with little patience.

    Use your fingers or blunt tweezers to remove adhesive strips on battery. Be extra careful when working near the battery; puncturing a lithium-ion battery can release dangerous chemicals and cause a fire.

    So essentially, it's the exact same process as the iPhone 6 series?
    I haven't personally opened an iPhone 6s yet, but I assume a little bit of more force is required to lift the screen because of the adhesive, yet, not enough to have to heat it?

  • @m.muhammed4860

    If you're careful, it's not necessary to disconnect the 4 display connectors and shield. Just hold the display module with one hand and work on the battery assembly with the other. It was faster for me.

    The best method is actually doing both prying and also removing the strip while prying it up a little bit at the same time. if you try to do it without prying 90% of the time the strip will tear. you just have to pry the sides up enough so you can slide the tab underneath it

  • @schnooleheletteletto
    @schnooleheletteletto 5 лет назад +7

    This instruction video is stupid. I’ll tell you why:
    You can clearly see that they are replacing the battery on a newer phone. Replacing a battery on a new phone vs a 2+ year old is very different.
    1, Old screws are more fragile because of the micro size. This should be said in the video. If you don’t use the exact right screw driver or do it too harsh you’ll end up breaking or tearing the screws. This would be very bad.
    2, The tape under the battery NEVER comes off this easily. Unless you’re replacing battery on a new device. Not sure why you would...
    They should have used an old phone to show people what real struggle it is to get it off. They 98 % of the time snap in the middle or even closer to that. The card suggested isn't easy to use either. I usually end up using a small knife to carefully attack the tape further and further in and bending (DONT PRESS THE SHARP SIDE OF THE KNIFE TOWARDS THE BATTERY) the battery bit by bit slowly up from the case. Be sure not to puncture the battery, it won’t be pleasant. Take your time doing this.
    3, Attaching the new tape on the new battery can be extremely tricky. You need steady hands. One twist or if the tapes gets stuck to each other, good luck sorting that one out. They are EXTREMELY sticky. Also depending on what kit you order, getting them off the plastic might be impossible and they WILL tangle.
    These guys make it seem easy, clean and tidy. It’s not. If you’re not used to tools, micro screws or fixing these kind of stuff you’re in for a challenge. It’s not impossible, but be prepared for a challenge.
    Please go somewhere else and watch a proper guide, and good luck.

    Instructions Unclear, set iPhone on fire

    Well unfortunately not very much of a iPhone apple fan of things. But that is a lot of work and a lot of parts too not loose. But with Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2017. You can just buy a new battery and since it's NOT a built in battery you can just take the battery out and pop the new one in. ( No tools required for some android users then I iPhones do ) But I like there laptops and large PCs. With there laptops I can use my smartphone too steal power from it or just use my battery pack to do just that. But anyway just a another other side of the team with android. ( keep it simple and less cost wisely )

    I wonder what is the reasoning they make this so difficult for the consumer to do themselves. it almost seems like they want us to have to bring it to Apple for them to fix it lol, just kidding, I know that's why they make it hard

      It's a general rule of thumb, not an exact specification. I've been fixing phones for years now and the 90 degree rule is there to make sure you are careful with what you are doing, as the ribbon cables tear easily (ask me how I know that). As it is very hard to remove the metal plate without opening the phone slightly more, it is generally ok to open the phone just a little bit to help you get those top screws out.

    Stop at :01 if you don’t have all the tools required. No reason to watch.

    Did you have to be somewhere and decided to just post this half ass video anyway? This isn't a replacement. This is just a removal video. This would come in handy if I was trying to strip an iphone for parts, not replacing my dying battery smh
