      there should be some stove caps that add a net against birds or animals intruding via the pipe, with some rain/weather guard included; also the pipe usually should get over the highest point of the house (depends of the distance to the house)

    Hi Gina and Al, for the heat master for the chimney you should look at getting a chimney hat this will act for stopping the rain all year round and by placing wire mesh over it it will stop any animal or small birds from trying to make a nest in the cold unit during the summer time.
    The radiated heat will be bliss that’s for sure. We installed a solar hot water system just after last Christmas and in all that time it’s not used any electric to run even during the long drawn out cold wet weather this past winter.

    • @edwardkreps3637

    The circulation pumps on the outside boiler should run 24/7 until you shut it down in the spring. If you’re tuning the outdoor pumps any other way it’s wrong. This prevents the water lines where exposed from freezing as there constantly hot.

      We can see it has a screw-type fitting on it to allow attachment of more insulated or non-insulated chimney pipe. Another 36" (3 feet) might be in order - may even help the fire draw better, but something tells me it's all microprocessor controlled to adapt to whatever it senses.

    • @rupe53
      @rupe53 2 года назад +2

      @@samvalentine3206 ... I have several neighbors in town with similar boilers and the process of adding flue pipe seems to be trial and error, depending on what you need to disperse the smoke enough to not be bothersome by the house. Sometimes it's 3 feet more and sometimes it's 10+ feet. Whatever works. Not to state the obvious, but the smoke is blowing toward the solar panels. I wonder how much added dirt they will collect.

    1:15 I think that is just a shipping cap... why don't you just get a chimney cap? Duravent makes one that should hand screw right on to that flange, they are easy to take off and replace with the shipping cap in the summer. With a wood fire you need one with a flame arrestor screen, you can cause a forest fire with the embers going up your pipe... its probably required by the state... plus rain and snow will get in and may cause your fire box to rot out... Last winter my chimney cap top blew off my boiler and it made mess in the basement during a large storm. Looks like a DuraVent DuraTech Chimney Cap 6DT-VC for 6" pipe...

And here you are firing up the boiler and checking out the heating system. wow! And the heat can start to flow, automatically, after weeks and months of preparation and planning. What a blessing that the Lord blesses all this work with success! He also blessed you with the ability to learn and study much and provided you with skills to bring all this to fruition. What a great Father we have that he looks after all our needs, in abundance. Here I sit in my basement suite, looking after my children’s huge big dog, a eighty pound puppy and still growing. He just hates being alone, so when there is no one home upstairs and he gets the whole backyard to himself, he gets into mischief gets reprimanded and punished. He knows very well what he has done wrong! And in the meantime you have fixed a leak again. It is check and double check. Just to make sure, but you have a great fire still going. And Gina is looking for a comfortable heated space inside! How great to find a warmed space, perhaps it could be a bit warmer? It great to walk inside and feel at home!

    It's an amazing event - -the boiler starting up. For it to work properly one is reminded of all you installed in the floor. I remember all the tiny little clips or ties that anchored the miles of tubing you laid so meticulously. There are no words. From the solar array, to the details of the home itself, the septic system, electrical wiring, plumbing - --I watched it step by step - but still a wonder to behold. Congratulations! The lovely sound of the boiler at last!

      When the solar isn't very good in the winter and their power draw on the batteries is too great they can run the generator to get the batteries charged back up. You don't want to let your batteries get too drained.
