If you look at what has happened in the Netherlands where ‘environmental policy’ CoP 26 net zero carbon or what ever the current fashion is, it is livestock farming that has come under attack and their govenment requires a significant drop in livestock numbers.
Instead of seeking to reduce livestock numbers directly as has happened in Holland with the consequent civil unrest, DEFRA have chosen to dramatically reduce funding to support small farms which survive running cattle and sheep assuming that those farms will go out of business.
That will create opportunities for tree planting and rewilding by the multi National corporations that are the major polluters but who have come up with carbon offsetting scams to green wash their activities.
All dreamt up by the World Economic Forum that meets at Davos where the mega rich come together to decide how they will get richer at the expense of the rest of us.
DEFRA vegans and animal rights staff contingent will be loving it and we all know they have considerable influence as reflected in the failure to eradicate Tb by dealing effectively with the wildlife reservoir of Tb infection.
The French know what happens when there is rural depopulation which is why Common Agricultural Policy provided support to keep the peasants on the land. Madame Guilotine sorted out the historical equivalent of Carrie Antoinette, Useless and the Goldsmith Brothers.
The Sri Lankan govenment followed the Davos line and look at the mess they are in,
Spot on Andrew , governments around the world have completely lost the plot targeting farmers and ultimately the global food supply in the delusion of that they are saving the planet while the elite engaged with the WEF can still live their lives of luxury. The Dutch farmers have no option but to topple their government.
Miss your videos, glad you're back. From a total non-farmer, a thought. Would a stripe of yellow on both sides and one right down the middle of the scale help the truck driver line up more accurately/easily. Not a big expense for something that might help.
The craziness that's going on in the world is unbelievable!!!! Our roots are also in the Netherlands and my heart goes out to the folks there.
Even tho some of your crops came up short, one of them did very well and next year will be better because you’ve made so many improvements in the farm since you started this channel. Your parents must be so proud of you for doing something crazy like starting a youtube channel. I believe you and your sisters will do amazing things for your farm ✨

I believe I know the words you'd rather be using. 😂 I'm really impressed with the improvements you been making and the way you're making them. Question, has anyone ever used snow fencing to keep some of the snow on the field instead of me letting it all blow away? Feel bad about the GoPros but nice job catching us up, take care my friend.
Jan. I advise you to install side railings on your weighbridge. I work for a scale company in South Africa, and in my 25 years in the industry, I have lost count of how many trucks have gone off weighbridges without side railings. We also build solid concrete guard blocks on the corners of the weighbridge do help guide a truck onto the weighbridge if it is a little off course. One driver managed to hit the block head on. Because the block is cast at with the ramp, he took the block off and a quarter of the ramp with it.OOOOh, the stories I can tell you about my industry.....

Congrats Jon to you and your family as far as getting the grain handling system set-up rolling - can't wait to see the installation of the coveyor and grain leg not only is it going to look impressive but it should be a great time and labour saver. The scale is gonna be very useful and convienent. I thought with all the thunderstorm watches and warnings out round Saskatoon that you may have gotten a little moisture but here's hoping you get some this week/weekend. Good luck with the silage and hay production.
When you're moving it's easy to lose small things. Those cameras will probably just show up some time and you can show us if you want. It's cool doing your outro sitting on the man porch . Any show you want to do of you at home I want to see. Good video. Pax.

I really like the expansion. Like my grandpa always tells us... you CAN NEVER overbuild because you will always grow into it. One thing I might suggest though. We have steel decking on our scale too and, in the winter, no matter what you do, it can get slippy. Its not tough for the drives to take a hike off the side. We put a thick steel curb on the side and the piece of mind is worth it. We have it pinned on you it can be removed in the summer if your need to go wide .
Great idea. It could be sketchy with rain, snow or ice without some support.

Put some flags or stakes along the edge of that scale, way easier to stay in line when you have a reference.

Going to be honest. I normally don't have alot of sympathy for very large dairy operations likes yours. Growing up I was in 4-h and most of the massive dairy farms out home were not very good to their cows. But you guys definitely take excellent care of your cows and I very much enjoy your videos! Keep up thr good hard work.

It's so intriguing to see that the first cow of each group knows they have to walk to the far end of the parlour to be milked. I know this is a learnt behaviour but how was that learnt when the parlour was new to them? Or is it just instinctual?

I would think in the winter, it only takes one B train going sideways in the ice on that pretty red deck to realize rails would be a cheaper option.

Worst part Netherlands isn't first country to regulate agriculture to increase environmental sustainability index. World Bank gave Sri Lanka money to raise theirs by making farms all organic now the population is starving because can't raise enough food.

Isn’t amazing how the governments around the world are making the farmers that feed all us humans are being targeted as the bad guys and are making it harder and harder to do their jobs .The cost and burden lands on the hard working families… the families that don’t work an 8 hour job… the day that takes as long as it take to get the job done.

I mean you have dutch roots, but its still crazy to see, that you guys over there in canada get the news of the dutch farmers protesting quite quickly considering i live in germany about 30km from the dutch border and here almost no newsstation reportet about it until last week when the protest were already 3 weeks active. Here in europe we farmers get more and more the impression, that we arent wanted anymore by our governments. I mean its way easier to just import everything and be dependent on it...
The left news outlets like CNN and others won't show the protests because it doesn't fit heir narrative!

Have wondered how you got the girls to line up and fill every stall in the milking parlor. Such a simple setup it seems ridiculous I didn't comprehend it sooner.
I can see the scales being slippery this winter , and trucks and trailers slipping off of the sides . Just saying .

Jan, I have a question for you. When I lived in Pennsylvania we joked that there were three seasons to the year, Summer, Winter and manure spreading season because of the very pungent odor permeating the countryside while farmers fertilized their fields. Being you've worked on a dairy farm your entire life and have become accustomed to the smell, does it ever offend you when non-farmers comment negatively about the odors associated with dairy farming?
I was wondering why you hadn’t posted a video in a while. I hope you find them. Besides losing the video, they are expensive. Good job driving on the scales. Thank you, you always have great content.
Ukraine is the bread basket of Europe. Funny how another country is limiting farming in a time of uncertainty with Ukrainian exports being cut off and Russia stealing available goods.

Great to see Ya back in action! Sorry about the Go Pros! Nice shout out to the Dutch farmers, but there is a little more context behind this. There were some big special interest political decisions made at the recent world economic forum about reducing the use of nitrogen fertilizers to combat global warming. The Netherlands just happens to be one of the first countries to implement the plan. There are other euro zone countries doing it as well. Trudeau is on board with the plan and will probably be implementing the same nitrogen fertilizer reductions in Canada soon. Be informed & beware this could be coming to a farm near & dear to you!
Also I would add the New World wants to reduce the world's population down to 500 million. That's why they are using "Global warming " as an excuse to cut down the amount of food farmers can grew to starve the world's population down.
The Dutch government wants to get rid of the farmers for one reason only ,they need their land to build more infrastructure and houses!
