In the process of putting Vintage Air in my 69 Camaro... Its not bad at all. But I can tell you this is THE Best Installation Video on RUclips. Vintage Airs Installation Videos aren't this good. Great job Sir.
This video was not only a perfect tutorial but was easy to watch. A lot of people on RUclips spend too much time with the chit-chat. I was honestly thinking that our '81 Camaro would never have A/C but after watching your video I'm not even stressing about installing the system. If fact, I'm about to order the kit now. Thanks for breaking it down and showing us all how it's done. Good job!
I posted a year ago that I was ordering my Vintage Air system... well, the transmission went out in my truck, so that took priority. I have now ordered it, and it will be here around the middle of January! I just rewatched this video, and I am pumped to finally get this done. Man, thanks again for the video! I'll have it playing throughout the entire install!! Great tutorial! 👍
Best video I've seen yet on installing the Vintage Air system. I started the install today on my 1985 Winnebago motorhome with the universal kit. I'll be watching this tutorial multiple times as I go through the install process. Great job and and Thanks!
You probably dont give a shit but does someone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb forgot my password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me.
Thanks Clown ! Im about to make a run at this on my 1980 Chevy truck this weekend and your video was pretty in depth and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be useful.
I am in the process of installing vintage air in my 1970 Camaro. A lot of the same steps. They did change the bracket that you notched for the heater hose that no longer needs to be fabricated.
Thanks for the video. It’s still relevant. We are restoring a 1980 Firebird and used your video for the removal of the old system. The camaro and Firebird are close but not exact. Again thanks for the video.
Excellent videos Klowny! I just completed putting Vintage Air, electric fan, and a Holley Sniper on an 81 Camaro and I continued to come back to your videos for reference since it’s basically the same car.....Thanks man!!!
Awsome job and so far the best and most complete video on how to do "a job"...!!! Now my turn, waiting for the kit for my 1979 Corvette (using a 1976 one since they do not make one for the 79. Wish me luck!). :D
Agreed, very detailed and QUALITY video shots. Better than most manufactures ! Why not paint the compressor brackets 100% ? Also, how much better is this complete system vs. the factory A/C set up when it was working ? Lots of folks do away with the R4 compressor replacing it with the SD-508 and get good results in just that.
My challengers install seems difficult but in different ways. Great video. I think any of these installs takes some balls, but then again thats part of owning these cars.
About to buy the sure fit for my 74 Corvette. Looks like installing its going to take awhile, great video, this is the best info Ive seen for vintage air as far as installing goes
Nice very nice clean install, I've only had my engine and trans rebuilt so far can't wait for wiring and suspension then I can at least drive it as I do this and that 70 RS. good inspiration thanks.
Great video! I want to do this system on my 81 z28. The only thing i dont like ( no fault of yours) is the way the ac lines run across the engine. I wish they designed it with the condensor lines on the other side so the lines could easily be routed on the driver side of the inner fender and down to the condenser. It would be a much neater install. But your video is great! Thanks for the guidence
Cheers Klowny, great video, having seen this I am going to hold off until I am ready to recover the dash, and install a Dakota digital dash, then respray the wheel arches, and do the lot in one go. Great help, keep um coming
What a great video. Intuitive and to the point. Liked and new subscribe from me. I’ll be wanting to do this in near future when I start my interior work on my 1980 z28 Camaro. Thanks bro!
I wish you were here in Western Australia. I would love to get you to install my vintage air! I got the compact 2 kit and it's universal.. but because of that you pretty much have no info on anything besides your excellent tutorial. Thanks.
Please consider making a video of you installing a vintage system in your third gen as no one else has. There is no dedicated kit but it would be nice to see a system modded to work in a third gen.
I have used that compressor in my 95 chevy 2500 when the pancake R4 went out it blows 35F!!! I want to do something like this but with an underdash ac evaporator from back when.
Absolutely awesome video! I am in process of building my 72 Camaro dash by 3d modelling and printing and AC would be nice addition.. the old AC has still some parts, but most is gone when former owned did a LS1 swap. Also the fans have now no power and so on.. so new AC would be great.. I am so happy I saw this video, because answered so many questions I had! Only problem I might have is the new engine and how to fit the new AC to it. If yo have any tips or info on that, please share!
Hey Klowny awesome video! You covered everything in awesome detail. One question, did you have to install a throttle stop solenoid on that carb to kick it up at idle when the compressor engages? I’m doing a similar install on a truck that had AC but the carb is aftermarket.
Solid video. I’ll probably be doing the same shortly to avoid trying to make the old stuff work. Only question is how loud is the blower fan since it’s now inside the car?
This video is so helpful. Almost got my system completely installed baby! One question...is a two groove power steering pulley required or can you make it work with one groove and just route the compressor belt straight to the crank and bypass the PS puley? My PS setup just has a single groove - already ordered the 3-groove crankshaft pulley.
Job done...blowing ice cold baby! Thanks again for this...never would have tried on my own without this video. Took me a couple of months solo ops. Learned a lot in the process. Two groove PS pulley is 100% needed in addition to 3 groove crank pulley for any of those wondering.
Great Video!!!!! I have not watched any of your other videos, but I'd have to guess you do a great job on all of them by this one. What did the entire system cost?
Great video man! I have a 1975 Camaro and the guy that I bought it from removed everything for the AC away from under the hood. I was wondering would it be cheaper to just buy the compressor and condenser from autozone since I still have the ac switches on the inside of the car?
Personally I like vintage air because it cleans up the firewall alot..as far as price, you will have to price out the parts u need vs the vintage air unit..thanks for watching
Great video. Having just installed a vintage air unit in a Factory5 Daytona coupe, I recognized a lot of the bits and pieces... but how did you keep your hands so clean?
I had a battery jump out of it's cradle into the Power wires to the compressor and after I fixed the cut wires that the battery cut the compressor wont turn on and I can't see a in line fuse anywhere to the light blue wire that go to the dry, could you give me a good guess what may have shorted out ? I had a man install it and he went out of business. PS... I did how ever run a power wire to the compressor via a toggle switch, is that a bad idea ?
I've removed my ac box before and never once have I had to cut the box to remove it. If your not going to use it ever again ok I don't see a problem with it but I just think it can be a waste though because it still looks usable.
It was great How much difference did you have in terms of ambient temperature, humidity, traffic flow, and so on? Was the cooling value of the new system much higher, or only slightly increased? How much was the amount of wind blowing from the air ducts ? Is the amount of wind blowing from the air ductss much higher than before?

Dude, this video is awesome! However, it's helped me come to the conclusion that I should just hire someone to do this for me. haha! Thanks!
dafontenot lol thanks for watching and commenting
It's done the opposite for me! Instead of paying $1500 for someone to do it, I'm now sure I can do it myself!!
Same here- I’m more of a red green mechanic with duct tape. I don’t think it would work on this project
What's a good number for install cost?

Nice, I like it. Question, why not just leave the stock ac?
Rockwell Berber it cleans up the firewall nicely..and its newer, less likely to leak and stuff
Where do you buy the kit?
nice work want to put one of these systems in my 68 Chevelle but it wasnt a AC car is that ok
yeah thats fine

How much difference did you have in terms of ambient temperature, humidity, traffic flow, and so on?
