@Adam Knight it would be pretty good if they maybe reviewed some 2nd hand kit that us mere mortals my be able to buy as well. Pit some old vs new. Like a gen 2 s1000r vs a newer street triple 765. Different power but also different tech for the same money.
Congrats and have you been able to get it out on the street or track yet? I'm looking at a 23 as well, I think I'm finally getting too old to race mx/sx and I want to get a bike to track locally. This is the 3rd vid I've seen praising the Yamaha and the R1 for the ability to actually make a great bike even better for local racing or track days.
As a Yamaha fan boy, I couldn’t be more excited for this series!! 🎉 Thank you for choosing an R1 for it 👏🏻. Love your chemistry between each other. Best moto show online!!
I'm so pleased Chris that I'm not the only one who talks inside their Helmets..." Stay there...Stay There...!" all the fricking time... :) Looking forward to this series as well :)
I've taken to doing this when driving my kids around... someone's waiting to join the road and I'm going 'stay... stay... don't do it!...'. I have to try hard not to add 'you fuckstick' on the end.
I like that you're keeping it 'budget friendly' with the upgrades up to £1000, will be interesting to see what you can push out of it! I wonder if when you reach the cap if you'll continue the series to show what you can get out of it when you up the budget 🤔Not that I'm in the £1000 budget to begin with, my budget is more along the lines of whatever I get out of the McDonalds happy meal
Can't wait to see how this progresses. I bought a new 2022 R1 (60th GP Anniversary) and have added some Gilles and Evotech parts as well as an Akra link pipe and end can. I've yet to add rearsets or clipons etc Dying to see what options are available for the brakes too. The GYTR parts catalogue is pure porn. This is gonna be great!
Looking forward to this series! I once bought an ex demo 1991 Benetton black and pink CBR 600 that the dealer had picked up at Caldwell park. They did a full track day on it from 0 miles and then it was ragged silly ad a demo bike for a few months before they sold it on. I put it on the TTS dyno when it had over 8000 miles on it and it was putting out just over 100 bhp in totally standard trim and exhaust. The guys at TTS even said at the time that it was a fit motor…
looking forward to seeing what you guys do to this and the input on the upgrades, since I tend to value your opinions a bit... I just bought the same bike, 0 miles, havnt even ridden it and already deleted ABS, changed pads, 520 kit and an exhaust. Hopefully will be riding in a couple weeks! Michigan USA is colddd
Get a tune man, they come crazy restricted from the factory. There's a channel on youtube that show cases it and dynos and there's huge power gains, not to mention you get 100% when you ask for it and not 70%
Love a big Yamaha me, bring it on fellas! Just insured my 900LC with BeMoto, mentioned you and got a discount straight off, great service so far. Be interested to see what they charge for change of Reg when I put my private plate on. Bikesure we're okay but awful when I had a no-fault crash when a cage pulled out, still waiting now for a payout (Aug 22)
Great video as always men. Always enjoy watching them and your presentation style is great. As a general point I always think Chris has got more double entendres in his repertoire than Finbar Saunders 😁
Can't wait to see this play out. It will be great to see the journey that some many privateers and club races take from the more professionally produced content. I did the exact same thing when I bought a 2015 R1M (first in Western Australia, maybe Australia) and at that time there were no aftermarket parts available. After months of waiting and trying to grin and bear with a few areas that needed upgrading the first few that become clear as you guys are more that aware of no doubt. 1. OEM master cylinder = fade aka cack > Brembo RCS19. 2. OEM front pads = Chocolate Teapot > SBS Carbon sintered pads. 3. OEM suspension = Like nustling in to singer Lizzo > KTech DDS front and rear + KTech front for extensions. 4. ABS = That annoying little kid that somehow walks into you're fist everytime they speak > I went with the FTECU ABS delete plug and removed the unit. 5. OEM brake lines = leftover spaghetti > Core moto brake lines all round. 6. OEM dash > needs a protector, I went though 4 of them... the only bonus is that it resets the milage 😬. 7. OEM rims = Expensive from Yamaha > GYTR are the same rims but cheaper. 8. OEM 525 chain and sprockets = Like you had a night on the nose beers and you come home all pumped up and full of beans, ready to go to town on you're missus but you look down, look back up at you're missus and she's asks if you're ok.. it looks like the poor old fella's had the life drained out of him. > Renthal 520 all round. 9. OEM air filter = asthma > MWR superbike filter. 10. OEM front and rear fairing subframes = expensive to replace. > Motoholders subframes from and rear with front Ram air tube. 11. OEM exhaust = A full colostomy bag > I went with the Arrow Ti Competition Evo. But really you could go for just a decent link pipe as the headers and can are titanium.
I always ran my engines in according to the instructions and they always lasted forever, had full power and ran smoothly. Rental bikes ran rough, bumpy and looked weak. my FZ8 alone had over 60,000 km and was running at full power until I sold it. Greetings from Bavaria, ja😁🇩🇪❤️🇬🇧
Truth be told what they say at the beginning is not true, if you have the money ANY of those manufactures will sell you bikes and parts. Honda Advertises a 90,000 Race Ready Type R... Yamaha a Race Ready, Non road legal, can never be legally tagged and rego'd can be bought from them.. BMW too. Subaru even sells RALLY ready chassis.
@@crisnmaryfam7344 I bet they're fully aware that almost every manufacture can sell you race parts or race bike if you got money, but as they said, currently yamaha is arguably the most effort in consumer facing with their GYTR programme. you can choose from the most basic parts or package with relatively affordable cost for track day use to the most expensive parts/package for comprtition. you can see all of these on their website, I never find it on the other manufactures. the CRESCENT shop even sell a fully build option for all these R-Series ready to race.
Another point along with Chris' dialogue on setting up the ergonomics of the bike to your most comfortable position. It will often be the case that you need to adjust the suspension to your weight and riding style. Especially with a brand new bike you'll get it to settle a little over time. I remember my bike new being super stiff, I loosened it up and over time I had to increase stiffness to get the same riding feel.
Grand to spend I’d go for; Gearing. -1 on the front maybe a +2 & +4 for the rear.. swap and change see what’s good for each track. Rear shock. Spring for my weight and set sag. Front forks. Nothing at first just set up clickers. Then springs if needed. Brakes. Better pads. Dot 5.1 fluid if not already. Maybe a master cylinder if in budget. Power. De-cat link pipe and dyno tune. That’ll do at first.
Lets go lads. Great series idea. Would be interesting to see you compare GTYR parts cost vs other more common brands for same components like clip ons and rearsets. I think you will find most riders would opt for the cheaper equivalent part.
I’ve not even seen the video, though CHRIST it would be great to see boothy race this bike….against all odds, and the full backing from the top gear of motorbikes 👌🏻💪🏻❤️
This is going to be a good one!!! I am looking at doing the same with an R7 to get enter into the R7Cup... What I saw is that the only GYTR that I may have a little bit of trouble getting, it would be the Öhlins NIX30, which you can get directly from Öhlins, so I am going to have no problem upgrading it other than time and money haha
I took my 'new' (1300 miles) 2014 Hayabusa out on 1st March too! Got it sorted after it's long period of doing fook all in someone's garage. New S22's on, fresh oil, coolant, brake fluid, clutch fluid, Yoshi R77's banged on, updated the lighting with led's and sorted out a projector lens cataract, it can now see much bettera! Looking forward to following what you get up to on the beautiful R1. 2023 is going to be epic.👍👍👍👍
Chris, you are 100% correct about the A272 being ruined by the average speed cameras - I used to love that road - there are very few side roads (where the real risks reside), it's a lovely flowing road, which, when I lived in the area, I knew every ripple, grid cover and pothole on. Revisting it, with everyone pottering along at 50mph, it's just wasted now :(
Great video Looking forward to this series.... Oh and i purchased 1 of your hoodies the other week, Great quality thing and thanks for the spangley envelope it came in 😂
That soft satin black is what made me fall in love with the R7. Very nice to see that sheen come to the R1 as well (it wasnt like that in previous years, was it?)
wicked ! looking forward to this, I had a 2016 R1M which I went a bit mad on.... spent a lot of money and time sorting the mapping too ! I think Fast Bikes did a short series like this but they never kept it up and finished it properly. ... show us how its done !!
Dank you say? 😂Have fun with this build. I just finished many upgrades to my 22 MT 10, it’s a silly amount of fun to ride. I hope you flash the ECU and dyno tune the R1, you know you want to!
Super excited for the series Got a call today that my new 2023 R1M will be ready for pickup next Saturday. So i paid extra attention to the break in section of the video
I moved to alice springs in the Northern territory of Australia a few months ago and they have a desert race from alice to finke would be a very cool thing to show more people, if you enjoy the European beach race then you will love finke. Maybe a 44 teeth road trip?
Definitely true about the riding gear, my leathers are absolute trash cheap with leg length belonging to someone who would need to be 7 foot tall but with average waist and fat legs, hated riding my bike just couldn't get combatable as they rucked up putting pressure behind my knee joint. Popped to the shops with just jacket and boots without the stupid trousers was amazing, felt so free to move on the bike all be it didn't want to come off.
Wow great idea, I have be pondering what track bike to get this year and what parts to add. The massive up side is the R1 will complete my Yamaha garage. Cannot wait to see how this project turns out
So many great upgrades on WISH and Aliexpress! Fancy pink chain tensioners, R1 brake and clutchlevers, Akra exhaust for a fraction of the price, tyres for next to nothing.
Man I am looking forward to this as a R1 owner. My personal opinion is as follows; For best bang for buck ditch the abs as soon as possible, even if you just pull the fuse. Fit brembo calipers. Get it decatted and mapped. Get the webbing removed from swingarm so you can run the wheelbase as long as possible. See my vids for how to mod the swingarm 😉 Then the rest is just depends on how deep your pockets are
Congrats on your new purchase lads what a beaut she is, i too picked up my 2023 reg ZH2 SE on the 1st of March and damn was it a cold ride back from The Potteries in Stoke to Birmingham , must say was nice to be back on the road 💚
Wow! Awesome bike! Looking forward to seeing this series. This what you were talking about? EcoBahn - Ideas for sustainability in eCommerce No? Thougnt not. Youse are funny hoores tho! 🤣
You go and release this just when I've decided to sell my 2021 R1 to get a Honda Africa twin I've been on the fence about it for weeks then you guys go and pull this lol now I'm on the bloody fence again!!! hahaha very keen to see more content like this :D
You will need deep pockets if your after any engine performance upgrades from GYTR, the kit ecu is around £1600 which will allow you to run GYTR cams at about £1200 per camshaft and the other goodies like pistons, crankshaft and the overpriced velocity stacks. If i was to spend £1000 on upgrades, i would opt for the Woolich racing ecu flash and a dyno tune along side a race air filter and a cheap decat exhaust, it will get you to around 190 rwhp.
5:37 I'm pretty damn sure that's EXACTLY what BMW do with their HP or now knowns as M-Parts, that said they're definitely not on the same level as GYTR so it's definitely a good choice, looking forward to what you guys can do with it, I think it'd be good to keep riding the bike stock until your performance plateaus so it's not actually you getting faster but the bike.
This is what I was told, by a race engine builder (who balanced and honed my R1 engine)... to brake an engine in properly...you do the following (this was divulged to me by a high performance race engine builder). Your first 20 miles...go out in 2nd gear only (so you don't break the speed limit by too much 🤣) and accelerate relatively easy up to about 85% of the RPM Range and then let the engine coast back down to idle RPM (using all engine braking only) and repeat over, and over, and over for the 1st twenty miles. After that, ride her normally for the remainder of the 1st 600 miles (using regular oil), then do an oil change to synthetic and you are golden.
Looking forward to this series. On the ease of fitting parts, windscreen change. R7 6 bolts and about 5 mins. V4 panigale 14 bolts and the front fairing has to come off 45 mins. :D
its all about aero with the modern bikes, but no one seems to have any aerodynamics for cooling from directed airflow, if your breaking is suffering, keep them cool with a nice blast of wind, idk most front brakes have that big ol barrier from the forks, is there anything you can 3d print that will take more air past the calipers, or even some well placed winglets like on the trailing edge of a 747s wing, they have little winglets so it spirals the air away, you could use that kind of motion to direct air from the mudguards
Ducati used to have a race parts catalogue full of actual speed parts - camshafts, cranks, pistons, gearboxes, wheels.. but that was 20 years ago. Cool that Yamaha is still doing something like that
Be interesting to see what you can do for your grand, good few years back I got a full yoshi system for my 99 TLR, the end cans alone were £963 EXCLUDING VAT! I'm still telling the Mrs the other £2000 is in a rainy day fund!
15 r1. I have 41,000 on the clock and the only thing that has failed on me was the thermostat and the geared motor that actuates the funnels. But it still goes like stink. Oil change every 3 months. Spark plugs, etc. and even the 25,000 mile service, and the bike feels great. When I first got it, it was ham fisted. There’s no need to be that gentile when you buy them new.
Great vid and great content please any single piece you put on this bike it would be cool if you show us the install in depth from beginning to a monster race bike
Love it! This is going to be amazing! How is older r1? Can you do a two latest generation comparison and maybe some mods for them in their weak points? The sound of that puppy. That noise to a v4 Aprilia the yammy makes a naughty sound.
Triumph used to be the same with the 675 Daytona - “is it in the factory catalogue” was usually the reply if you asked if, say they could fit a sigma slipper clutch. Shout out to Bevan’s Cardiff for adherence to “the catalogue” & independent REPS in Caldicot for fitting all my aftermarket parts😍👍🏻👏🏻
Very nice. Think I'm going to enjoy this series. I wonder if you could use another bike as a sort of alternative? Like how much faster can you get with a new bike/tech and add-ons? Not sure if that is feasable. I guess it depends on what other bikes you have laying about. I guess you could just compare lap times you've done in the past?
@@FortyFourTeeth Not if you insist on telling lies about race ready bikes being able to be purchased from manufactures. BMW Ducati, Honda Yamaha Subaru Nissan take your pick all sell a race ready version.
Love this! Looking forward to this series. Is it true that the new R1M is coming out of the factory now with the front of the frame braced like Topraks bike?
This is the sort of content I love
I agree, the reviews are good but a little boring after a while especially when I can't afford most of the best bikes haha
a GYTR R1 build cost will be insane..... we all know factory parts are way over priced what you think factory race parts are gonna cost 🤣🤣
@Adam Knight it would be pretty good if they maybe reviewed some 2nd hand kit that us mere mortals my be able to buy as well. Pit some old vs new. Like a gen 2 s1000r vs a newer street triple 765. Different power but also different tech for the same money.

Get the webbing removed from swingarm so you can run the wheelbase as long as possible.
See my vids for how to mod the swingarm 😉
Then the rest is just depends on how deep your pockets are
Congrats on your new purchase lads what a beaut she is, i too picked up my 2023 reg ZH2 SE on the 1st of March and damn was it a cold ride back from The Potteries in Stoke to Birmingham , must say was nice to be back on the road 💚
Wow! Awesome bike! Looking forward to seeing this series. This what you were talking about? EcoBahn - Ideas for sustainability in eCommerce No? Thougnt not. Youse are funny hoores tho! 🤣
Eric and Ernie of motorbike reviews, love it!! 😄
Sounds like a great series and a brilliant idea. Can't wait.
This is going to be awesome. Can’t wait to see the progression and racing footage
Looking like a cracking series,, RE Loomies, bad burgers, bad coffee, even worse service
Agree. Shame. Could be so good. There is NO excuse for shit coffee in this day and age.
Alpha Racing is the equivalent of GYTR for BMW, though it's not readily available in the UK. Feels like BvG has fallen out with BMW.
I’m excited for this, good on Yamaha for doing this.
VERY VERY EXCITED! AWESOME WORK YOU GUYS!
Great video Boys can’t wait to see what you do to the R1 and how you get on at the track, will Al be on the rear seat when racing😅
Looking forward to this series.
On the ease of fitting parts, windscreen change. R7 6 bolts and about 5 mins. V4 panigale 14 bolts and the front fairing has to come off 45 mins. :D
Yup, the Pani is a bloody nightmare to work on
its all about aero with the modern bikes, but no one seems to have any aerodynamics for cooling from directed airflow, if your breaking is suffering, keep them cool with a nice blast of wind, idk most front brakes have that big ol barrier from the forks, is there anything you can 3d print that will take more air past the calipers, or even some well placed winglets like on the trailing edge of a 747s wing, they have little winglets so it spirals the air away, you could use that kind of motion to direct air from the mudguards
The McCrispy sign thing is true!
It was actually at the crematorium outside Truro, Cornwall. Not far from us. I saw it with my own eyes 😂 😂
Be good to see you both do lap times as is, then see what the shiney bits actually gain you. Same tyres.
Now I've watched the rest of the video that's basically what you're gonna do 😬
Great vid and great content please any single piece you put on this bike it would be cool if you show us the install in depth from beginning to a monster race bike
Gonna be a great series this! Bike looks awesome,
Love it! This is going to be amazing!
How is older r1? Can you do a two latest generation comparison and maybe some mods for them in their weak points?
The sound of that puppy. That noise to a v4 Aprilia the yammy makes a naughty sound.
You can do a running in program on a Dyno. Just a thought.
Be nice to take a M 1000 RR or V4R as a head-to-head once it’s finished
@@FortyFourTeeth Not if you insist on telling lies about race ready bikes being able to be purchased from manufactures. BMW Ducati, Honda Yamaha Subaru Nissan take your pick all sell a race ready version.
Genuinely looking forward to this series
Best youtube channel hands down! Great content guys
Awesome, looking forward to this series 👍👍
Let us know when you're visiting Crescent. I only live a few miles away 🙂
Looking forward to this.
Love this! Looking forward to this series. Is it true that the new R1M is coming out of the factory now with the front of the frame braced like Topraks bike?
Brilliant idea, looking forward to see how things pan out. :-)
