Yesssss! The Magicarp is hands down my card of the year too, and I was lucky enough to get my hands on one here in South Africa.
I think the Swablu illustration rare in Paradox Rift is a great companion piece to the altaria; notice how it’s chilling with the wingull bros before it evolves to fly alongside them!

Hi Jake, the Arceus and Giratina from CZ actually should form together with the palkia and dialga one into one artwork, you can google somewhere the full picture. It's my dream chase and I think a lot of people overlooked this 😊
Great list, i was lucky enough to pull the ar magikarp. It is not my most expensive card, but it is my grail together with Giratina V alt from Lost origin. Those two are jus awesome cards.
The best cards this year in my opinion are the Van Gogh pikachu and the Yokohama deck pikachu. But this is a great list.

My favorite cards would be the two Victini tournament promos! Both the alternate art and full art are absolutely incredible, in my opinion🤩
If only I hadn't gone to bed 30mins before Felt Hat dropped due to working early shifts... Happy to have pretty much all the others and I love them all, just the golds missing. Excellent choices.
Can’t tell how many paldea evolved packs I’ve opened trying for that magikarp, love the art so much
Great list that represents your own perspectives. I personally like the 151 base "big 3" evolution series along with the Pikachu AR from that set. Also, the Japanese TCG classic cards are stunning. Yokohama Pikachu promo is also awesome.
Great selection, glad to say I have them all apart from the Championship Series card. Totally agree about the Altaria massively underrated card.

Also YESSS that Magikarp is freaking insane. I fell in love with it too and graded like 10 of them. Sadly, others have felt the same and the pop blew up which crashed the value. Regardless, the card itself is still absolutely stunning and Im happy to own many copies!

what about yokohama pikachu ex? I just picked a psa 10 copy for pretty cheap and I think it will perform pretty well long term
Wanted the Felt Hat Pikachu so bad, but I didn't get to it right away and then the website was completely broken and I couldn't break through all the crashes. I seem to remember them saying that they'll be available at certain retailers in the Netherlands in early 2024. So there might be hope? Not sure if I'm up to date on that.

So many cool cards, I got a Yu Nagaba pack thrown into an order recently and it had the umbreon! There was a Pokémon play pikachu promo card recently battling charizard and I wasn’t able to get it unfortunately.

friends have bought me a couple of the Yu Nagaba packs for my birthday, I absolutely love the designs, praying for the sylveon personally but of course the umbreon would be brilliant too

Pokémon China released Rainbow VMAX Secret Rares Blastoise and Venasaur in Simplified Chinese, Primordial Martial Arts (their version of battle styles) and these cards are so dope 👌
Van Gogh Pikachu is amazing I’m glad I could get one(And one for my sister). I’m glad I have them.
My favorite for 2023 other than Pikachu has to be Roaring Moon SAR paradox rift.
Then Mew SAR Shining Treasures.
Then Parasol Lady or Mela SAR.
Iono shining treasures and penny and Charizard are all amazing too.

Wow that magicarp looks straight out of shiny treasure ex! Surprised it’s triple beat
I REALLY love the 151 SIR Blastoise EX. The blues are so deep and beautiful, it feels like it should leave your finger stained blue, I think it's the coolest depiction of Blastoise himself, and the way the Holo hits, it really gives off that deep water vibe. I love the entire 3 evolution into Blastoise actually, they all tell a story, and are absolutely gorgeous to me. Imo the best Squirtle, Wartortle and Blastoise cards ever made, as far as the art. Love em! Infact, I feel the exact same with the bulba, ivy and Venusaur secret rares. Incredible colors, again, a story told. The Charizard 3, ehh. I do have all of these, but Blastoise is my favorite. I also REALLY like the SIR Zapdos flying high w the other big birds, gorgeous sky, love it.

I am glad Magikarp is getting the respect he deserves. He is my 3rd favorite Pokémon.
Me too, I like that he is supposed to represent the koi allegory about striving for the impossible, swimming upstream of a waterfall to finally get to the top only to turn into a dragon. I love that they are combining storytelling into their art, but felt like someone was reading my mind when they did that card. It’s actually done in scratch art which is a 90’s throw back in itself. Imagine the craze behind that card, if it was textured?!🤤

I got 2 pikachu felt cards, got them both graded and got a 8.5 and 10, the 10 I’m keeping and the 8.5 is going to my buddy as a gift

Hey Jake, I was wondering what do you think would be a better long term investment. I have the japanese stamp promo box and was wondering if I should sell that to buy a graded copy of the van gogh pikachu or just keep the box? Any opinions on the matter would be appreciated thx.
I’m not Jake but keep that bad boy sealed. It’ll be worth more than Van Gogh long term. So many of them getting graded

I've started collecting Japanese cards recently. I think their artwork is better than english.
A word of caution to those are thinking of purchasing through Buyee, they do not filter fake or replicas. If you buy, no returns whatsoever. Sales reps can't help you either.
That being said, there's a lot of good stuff but just be very discriminating.
