Thanks. So we can confirm wide band audio no longer need part changes. Good step forward ! I can assume no part changes for any mods as it would now be a service menu option... good to know.
Yes TX and RX audio are listed now in the users function menu from 2K to 4K, the TX 4K setting sweeps off at a little over 5K. Sideband filtering is separate so the expansion was done properly, there is no need for someone to make new claims of wideband audio mods on this model as it is done at the factory. Users with Equalizers and eq boards and studio mics can now get a few extra K out of the tones those items produce for on air sound quality.
Part of the issue with those part changes is that it broke the filter in the process. Some of the changes broke the filter because they didn't change the filter, but the input/output impedance and that changed the filter response in the process. None of the modes would have a flat frequency response as a result. It *appeared* to work because the limiter would engage and keep things uniform on AM. On FM it would sound funny with some voices. On SSB it would generally sound fine, but with a dual tone test the waveform would be distorted. It also caused issues if you used the radio for any form of digital like PSK because the tones would vary in level by frequency and distort the messages. As a mate of mine called it, ignorance on fire. This implementation is correct. it changes the frequency response digitally depending on mode. Edit: spelling :)
@@DAVE_WHITE Please clarify...you mean TX and RX audio bandwidth can be changed in the Function menu? I do not see where it is at. Do i have to plug it into my computer to access that particular function?
I wonder if you can make it work on the 11 meter frequencies, on the older version it was simply taking out a resistor. The board looks exactly like the anytone at5555

Hey I'm new to the moble radio world. I've been watching a lot of video trying to get answers but there none that's simple. My question is how far or what's the distances you get on a stock 955? And what's the difference between 10 and 11 meter? Look forward to hear back thanks.
Distances are subjective. It's dependent on the location of the two endpoints, how much power they are running, atmospheric conditions... There is no such thing as "I can talk exactly x distance with x radio with x antenna on x day" Only snake oil salesman use such a sales pitch.
It's a throwback from the base model. The base model needed additional cooling. These don't but it got left behind. The k-po for example, needs that heatsink because of how they designed it. It's a similar radio but it has some issues with heat that the Stryker resolved.
Since you are busting myths and misinformation I dug some up for you: 1. The encoder is "the same" and "might be a problem" according to some. 2. There are "spurs" or something coming out? 3. This is a "problem" in the audio path? True or false?
1. Ok? What's the problem? "might be" a problem is not a problem. Citations please? 2. You mean the ones that are offset 5.61Mhz and are almost -60dBm down from the carrier? It's an artifact of the PLL they use. Non-issue. 3. There really isn't any audio path to speak of. It hits an opamp then goes straight into an ADC... gets processed... spat out via a DAC. There is no audio path issue.
@@Mark19960 Some people say there is a problem. Some people make it sound like there is a problem. I have no idea what the rest of that stuff means. Ok. I believe what you say over "man and a dog".
Well, it's 1/3 smaller because they went from 0603 to 0402 construction. They also eliminated most of the PLL and digitized some of the more overly complex circuits like the fine clarifier, for example.

@@Mark19960 Oh I didn’t realize the Anytone 6666 was discontinued as they aren’t hard to find online. Yet anyway. I may just wait for the 955 V2. It’s probably the best thing to do anyway. Appreciate it.
Better TX and RX audio bandwidth, channel changer (encoder) a lot less prone to skipping channels, the option to now pick Dy or EL in the menu for the microphone type and a few other changes.. Also nothing on the mainboard for the hack shops to twist and turn.
@@DAVE_WHITE I'd guess that last line is why a lot of people are opposed to it... The overall design means it's going to be a lot harder to turn into a hacked up mess

I hope this version has a bit less noise and less voltage drop.
So much empty space in there. Would be nice to chop off a few inches and make it fit in trucks easier.
