The Tragic Tale of Mesut Özil
For me as a German fan I have always loved Ozil and thought that if he was just born 10 years earlier he would've been seen as great as Zidane or Pirlo, but football just evolved past him. I remember watching him and Muller at the 2010 and 2014 world cups and I could not take my eyes off of the screen. It is sad to see his career go from maybe becoming a Real Madrid and Arsenal legend to being someone known for controversy.
Completely agree mate!
100% facts
@Vizeh do you do custom images on mezzala designs
I totally agree however I think true football fans will always recognize his talent and greatness. Especially the ones who saw it as it happened
Seen him play for wolfsberg against kaiserslautern big marten amedick flattened him early and he faded out the game
one of the most underrated midfielders ever, Prime Ozil was unstoppable he stood by what he believed in respect him for it

How brave of Ozil to blindly follow the western narrative on things
Ozil and Sanchez was a thing of beauty back in the day
100% Was some combo!
What Ozil said wasn’t wrong. Racism existed before BML movement but PL or any other football league did nothing. The only reason they got involved regarding racism is because of public opinion. They don’t care about anyone’s rights as long as they continue to make money. Its never about inclusion as long as they make money.
How brave of him to blindly parrot the western narrative. He showed imagery of a “East Turkestan” flag, which is a movement of terrorists pretending Xinjiang isn’t from China. These terrorists are funded by other Islamic extremist groups. There is no genocide of Uyghurs, Uyghur population is growing faster than the Han and all signs are bilingual in mandarin and Uyghur. He is either supporting terrorists, who are being re educated about their actions and Islam, or he is just lying.

True fir la Liga too
The greatest Playmaker of All Time
No one can play more beautiful football than him
He would have 500 assists if he stayed at Real Madrid
A wonderful human being too
A Legend on and off the pitch
The streets will never forget players like Ozil, Reus, and prime Hazard.
All in my top five favourite players ever
I fully believe prime Ozil was one of the best playmakers of this generation. Not only did he have impressive stats when it came to chance creation and assist, but just the way he played was simply magical. And as controversial as he was as a player, I massively respect him for not just voicing his beliefs, but refusing to backdown just because of public pressure. He wasn't afraid to call people and organizations out when they deserved it
That is very honorable of him absolutely!
How brave of Ozil to blindly follow the western narrative.
This man has the best ball reception/control skills in the entire world of football.
There is a clip of him here on youtube with 17 years old and he does a reception there that even after i rewatched it 100x, i still dont understand how on earth he managed to do it, this man was such a class... I wont say is a sad story because he seems to be ok with himself, but man, what could have been!
I’m sure Mesut is happy too, I guess it’s more of his legacy on how he’s looked back on with the lense of modern football that’s a shame
@@Vizeh To me he will always be one of my favorites from this generation, but i do tend to look at football players in a diferent way. My favorite current day player is not Messi or Ronaldo but Di Maria, and im portuguese lol
Ozil man such a sad story....my favorite playmaker in the history of football..I used to play like him when I was playing football a few year ago
Very under rated imo, will be one of those players who never gets the credit he deserves but also was not able to adapt to the Premiership and its style of play changing
I think as a fan who prefers the Late 90s through the 2000s he represents the last real #10 and it kinda saddens me to see such an iconic role finally die and to see it happen during a time when there was still a godly talent at the role is upsetting.
The first time I saw Ozil play was at the U21 championships. I was not even 12 then. Being from South Africa, those types of matches were rarely on our TVs. I was mesmerised by how good this player was. Came 2010 WC and I got to watch him vs England live. I knew there that this was going to be a star for the future. For over 10 years Ozil has been my favourite player above all. Also as a Real Madrid fan, how things fell into place post WC 2010 made it even more special. I hated the Arsenal move with all my heart because I felt like he was taking a major step back in his career. I would argue this to be true because in all his time Arsenal never built a team good enough compared to for example the currrent team now. The way things ended, I remember I needed to start telling myself that no one has a perfect career and that I should remember him for all the beautiful football he showed us. All in all, I wish he didn't go to Arsenal, his career could have been a lot more fruitful. But for what he did on the pitch, with the ball at his feet. But this is the first time, (I'm 24 btw) I've witnessed an era come to an end. The like of Ronaldo, Messi, Ramos, etc. coming to the end of their careers. As a fan you gotta learn that life goes on. Your GOATs won't play forever.
Özil's 2010 World Cup goal is one of my favorite goals ever scored!
My favorite player❤ Özil the true passing goat! 🇩🇪🇹🇷
❤❤
Ozil at Arsenal was probably one of the best players the Prem has ever seen, and that linkup with Sanchez was just gold. It’s sad to see such a baller now known for just controversy and scandal
I am a diehard Barcelona fan but when I was 12 years old watching him play for Madrid I instantly fell in love with how he played. When he went to Arsenal I started watching their games solely because of him and now i’ve been an Arsenal fan for 10 years! Literally fell in love with a club in a different league because of him!
I loved how he was outspoken on racism in the DFB and defending his fellow Muslims, even at the expense of his likeness, takes guts. Also have the fondest memories watching him win the World Cup with Germany and making so many highlight reels at arsenal

yes racism in the dfb, that's why gündogan and rüdiger are playing for the nt right?
@@Rayray18999both players git racial abuse 💀 you don‘t have a point
I am lucky to watch something like him. He's a joy to watch
Mesut Ozil with the talent that he has due to his incredible stint at Real Madrid and he won a World Cup with Germany, the assist numbers he produced and the quality he showed, he had a great career, but it seems like his potential was unfulfilled. Mesut Ozil as a whole lacked consistency in his game and that could be part of why he didn't stay at the top for very long and at Arsenal he was up and down sometimes he played well and other times he was invisible. Another thing that didn't help is that many top teams don't play with a number 10, teams require midfielders that had quality playmaking and also are willing to track back and do the dirty work, have stamina, and defend, he didn't wanna do any of that and he couldn't cope with the demands of the modern game. Mesut Ozil is one of the most talented players of his generation, it just seems like we never saw his true potential and his decline was sad to see because at his peak he was a joy to watch, he never had that consistency in his game.
He is my favorite player of all time iv said it before and I will say it forever.
I'm a huge fan of Schalke 04 (the club where he spent a majority of his youth and where he made the first steps in pro football) and I remember seeing him on the pitch the first times and already thought: Wow, this kid (although he's older than me :D ) will be one of football's greatest.
I remembered Ozil ever since his Werder Bremen stint when he played with Pizarro. Can't believe how far he came since.
Can you make one on Eden Hazard? He honestly had football km the grasp of his hands and it just... slipped away. I miss what he was and I'm so disappointed because he could've been one hell of a player today
I'm Man United fan and my 2 all time fav players are Rooney and Ronaldo. So I followed Ronaldo's journey to Real Madrid. And I remembered Ronaldo and Ozil linking up just being magic. It was ike they had LITERAL Telepathy with each other. Man I missed those days. In the end Ozil will always be one of the all time greats regardless of peoples opinions of his humanitarian / political actions off the pitch.
Mesut was probably what KDB is now, and probably we couldn't see him in his prime because of the conflicts that happened further in his career and his antics at real madrid with perez and mourinho. Mesut is also that type of a player i like to put in the conversation and as an example when people say Sports is not politics !
Great vid Liam, loved the music selection on this one , a better vibe.
Thank you man, really liked the music in this too!
Always thought he was hard done by. Phenomenal footballer, but all that going on in the background would hinder any player, and Arsnel not backing him was just bad crack. Enjoy your millions, mates, you earned every penny!
Ozil was a boss, shows how issue out the field can grind you down, sad.
Its sad to see how his career fell off,he was truly a great
Was probably the best midfielder in the world on his day. Shame he got wasted

Attacking wise yeah, obviously not all rounded.

Amazing video, honestly keep it up. No one does videos like this better than you.
Thank you Hamzah!
loved this. Ozil definitely was a talent and genius playmaker. He's just an easy target because he is always reserved and isn't loud or flashy. If he had better finishers around him, he would have won more league titles in the EPL. He isn't the one to lead the team, but he is the one to create magic and assist a prolific forward. Too bad Arsenal never had one when he was there. Actually Auba would have fit well with Ozil normally but we had Unai "Gud Ebening Eberywan" Emery and his awful tactics that didn't suit Arsenal.
Ozil was made to play through balls to Auba, who was made to run in between the lines with his pace and score. Dafug was wrong with Emery.
if it werent for özil, i wouldnt have an arsenal jersey in my closet. he was and is an icon for arsenal and for football, for me.
danke mesut.
Such an incredible player. He was unlucky that the game changed while he was playing, he started as the new number 10 and then his position became obsolete
I have to correct you on the Erdogan thing. The reason he was critiqued for that photo was that he simply didn't want to answer questions about his view on the human rights issues linked with Erdogans' rain. Gûndogan committed to the human rights and the case was close.
Erdogan is a more or less democratically voted president but is viewed more as a dictator in Germany. It's well known that he breaks human rights in relation to his treatment of people with Kurdish heritage.
Yeah, Erdogan has been bad in his treatment of Kurds and his involvement in Syria. I however do also think that Germany has somewhat of a problem with racism towards Turks in general
@nameanteater4772 Yes and no. It very much depends where you live in Germany. The biggest population of people with Turkish heritage is Berlin. And I don't think most Berliner have got a problem with them.
But I agree, there's a problem with racists in Germany. And they need to be found and educated.
But what I found weird is the fact that the majority of Turkish people in Germany voted for Erdogan. Say what you want about the democracy in Germany, but it's way better than in Turkey. I mean, Erdogan is not far off from being a dictator like Lukaschenko.
LONG LIVE MESUT...Forever the G.O.A.T ❤❤❤
People just hated him for no reason, he was targeted. He's my favorite player and I just don't get why he was treated as he was.
His playing style wasn’t his downfall he didn’t just become outdated he was just always inconsistent, literally always every season had a good like 8-10 match run of mid or ass games .
Him and alexis sanchez at arsenal played beautiful football man
Mesut fish🐐
I feel like you left out a big part of why he got so much criticism in Germany. Özil never once talked about the multiple human rights offenses Erdogan has committed choosing to ignore the topic whenever it got brought up. Gündogan however openly talked about it which is why he is still very much beloved in Germany.
As a player he's very entertaining to watch his skills and Im a Real Madrid fan where he used to assist cr7 for goals its very entertaining
Prime Ozil was different. 🔥
Mesut ozil is the greatest playmaker I watched on my TV
what a player ozil was and especially in his prime
If I’m honest while I love vizeh’s channel and most of his videos I can’t help but find these ones slightly disrespectful. “Does dele ali care?” Does özil care?” Of course they do. They both reached some of the highest levels of the game possible. We have no idea what happens bts of their lives so I just feel like making 20 minute videos questioning their desire or willpower isn’t really right. Kinda like how FD used to do videos telling players to retire. Just don’t feel like it’s our place
He will always be a legend
I will always love Ozil❤️❤️
Great to hear that man!
As much potential as he had at the end of the day you can't say he wasn't responsible for his own downfall
Watching him walk off the pitch at 3-1 down against Chelsea after spending 800 quid to go to Baku was enough for me to stop caring about him.
That’s fair
I think with ozil, he had all the talent in the world but seems more like a spoilt child, either his way or the high way and wenger did a terrible job always protecting his players and that brought a sense of entitlement to the arse culture to this day, players don't want to work hard but always wanting more money or trophies when they themselves were failing at their job, it's no coincidence ozil started having problems with arsenal after wenger left, their nobody in the club to pamper his ego and he turned on the club
My favorite player of all time
As much I liked Özil as a footballer in his prime(in germany he pretty mutch was as idolized by many kids as many idiolized Ballack couple years before), the controversys he got involved in leave a sour taste. Best example would be his beef with the DFB/germany. I just don't get it why he wasn't able to handle it like Gündogan did.
yeah a lot of these videos do a bit of revisionism to make ozil look less like a twat.
part of the problem that led to his downfall was his own attitude
Özil, Cazorla, Xhaka. The best players Arsenal have had in the past 10 years
The last true number 10 of the modern game.
Just needed a strong manager.
Imagine if he'd rocked up at Liverpool under mighty Jürgen?
Great video and great point at the end. Everybody deserves the basic. We are all human and demand respect. I've always lived Ozil (being a Chelsea fan). I'm a UK citizen but I've always kinda supported Germany internationally after growing up watching world cups and seeing the likes of Khan, neuville, klose and Ballack being my favs.
Just shows that in modern football if people just supported there team with out the nastiness that we are all guilty of. Then maybe the players would play to the best of there ability and maybe, just maybe, this world would be a better place
it's not really a tragic tale, he just stopped caring about football.
Many Germans really loved Özil and i think thats what many people dont understand. It was mainly some specific newspapers that criticized him ALOT when we lost. Great player and i miss him in the german national team
Özil lived long enough to see himself become the villain, as the saying goes. He was delicate and clever in the final third, yet the modern game demands ruthlessness in front of goal. His dribble skills were silky and effortless, but the modern game would demand he drop deep to progress the ball, and he simply didn't seem interested in playing behind the halfway line. He could keep the ball in a phone booth duel, but never seemed physically robust enough to be press-resistant. His defensive work rate was sparing, to keep himself free for counters, but this trait doesn't fit the positional/possessional meta of top club football anymore. I got to see him in the flesh in a friendly Arsenal played here in the States, and he was electric. Arsenal finished eighth that year.
And so, we ask ourselves what a modern playmaker SHOULD look like. Özil's positional ambiguity, it turns out, was trailblazing in that respect: de Bruyne, Maddison, Grealish, Bernardo, Eriksen, et al all drift from central positions to wide, and back again. But they are more clinical and less precious in the box, more prone to a raking diagonal play-switch than a cheeky flick, and they run as hard and duel as willingly as any box-to-box powerhouse. It is all too poetic that Özil represents a fading archetype, and his ostensible replacement as Arsenal's 10 - a fellow refugee from La Real, a fellow viral teenage phenom, but in many ways Özil's opposite - Martin Ødegaard, represents the new. Fifteen goals, nine assists, leading the team in final-third pressures, frequently conducting traffic in the half-spaces, and as a bonus, leading the team in a way Özil's signature individualism never allowed him to do. MÖ gives way to MØ. Football mutates and evolves. Arsenal fans hope for more bright days. The playmaker is dead, long live the playmaker.
As a Muslim what he said about Arsenal is completely right, if you "don't wanna get involved with politics" then don't get involved with any. It IS pretty too faced......
It’s a shame that he lied. All that for what, To blindly parrot the western narrative? To defend some terrorists and this idea that Xinjiang is “East Turkestan” and not Chinese?
Ikr, football and politics are both intertwined and as an Arsenal fan,I felt disappointed that there weren't more players calling out China about the harsh treatment of Uyghurs and forcing them to denounce their religion and eat pork in places similar ro concentration camps
Genuinely forgot this man retired this year.

as a muslim no player stood up to their religion and connected everything in their life then mesut ozil. its very unfortunate to see a player with such class and elegance to be treated in such ways that he is forced to retire. the media doesn’t allow for messages to be said, then why did Germany cover their mouth in the 2022 world cup to send a message, why did the premier league sent a message towards the war between Russia and Ukraine, why did the primer league show support towards the Black Lives Matter, and in most recent case why did the Laliga show support to Vini Jr and supporting anti racism moments. but in case of Mesut Ozil he was silenced by the german national team and arsenal all because supporting the horrible events that the Chinese muslims were experiencing. it doesn’t make any sense as to why he was treated in such way. i truely breaks my heart to see a player be treated in such ways that he had his entire career ruined by politics.

I'm a West Ham fan, but when Mesut Ozil first came to my attention playing for the German in the 2010 World cup, I thought here is player to watch out for. Sure enough, he soon ent to Real Madrid and then to Arsenal. maybe in retospect, he should have chosen to play or Turkey and been lauded as their grearest player ever. ootball these days is a business and Ozil was a victim of that. Ill always respect him for speaking out against China's treatment or the Uighers in Xinji9ang, and think that Arsenal wanted Chna's money more than Human rights. Shame on ARSENAL.

Never change arsenal, hope that chinese money was worth destroying one of the best players your club ever had
Should have stayed in madrid coming to arsenal was his biggest mistake ....
Lolooool .. unless if then Haaland does something soon.. shit this guy could of waited 5 seconds eh. P.s KDB is better the LoOzil and we it’s not getting a World Cup or being part of a different generation that makes a player superior. Sure if we can compare to it by ability then the both stand different, at least a little bit but why do some players thrive and others don’t is beyond me. I’ll tell u.. it’s called trying
Ozil had that maestro vibe about him. Really good touch, insane vision, insane flair. But he lacked physicality. He was a dying breed for sure. He used to glide past players. Not with speed but with elegance. Like a fucking ballerina.
Ozil was literally blackballed cuz he spoke against social injustice & religion persecution. He’s made money doing what loved & still is without compromising his morality & values. That’s a winner in my book.
Well considering the newest (and not so new) revelations about him I would highly question the values and morality of someone like Özil. Just like I would question if anybody who chooses a dictator as best man for their wedding or has a tattoo of an extreme right wing party has morales at all.

Weird to see this video in my recommendations when just a video days ago a picture went viral showing Özil spotting a tattoo of a Turkish fascist group.
Then what assh*le🤡
Great video, unfortunately looks like you didnt have enough time to add all the Arsenal controversies. Once it turned sour it turned very sour. Defining imagine of his career is Henderson(who was still a joke at the time) taking the ball off him, leaving him on his arse and Liverpool scoring. All while Özil was still on the ground. Shows what can be done if your ethic is for hard work and good like we've seen from Henderson. Reality is that Özil could have been great but got lazy once he won the world cup and blamed everyone else for his lazy decline. That and other actions highlighted he is just an awful human
Sorry but Mourinho is the only coach to unlock Ozil and countless others!

How often do you drop new videos wtf. Great upload rate tho.
Finally!
The premier league should be ashamed of themselves for the whole Black Lives Matter thing. They should stay out of politics and if they do get involved they should at least know what they are backing.
Exactly all while players are taking a knee Abramovic is funding the illegal destruction of Palestinan homes but only when Russia invades Ukraine does he become the bad guy
Isn’t it scary that a voice of an English team’s player was silenced by a foreign government?
It really is. People don't realize that the beautiful game is always influenced by politics, whether we like it or not. Özil was speaking the truth about the Uighur situation but was silenced and ostracized for it.
