I don't have a specific trail shoe. I do run through a forest, but I can do that in my stability shoes. I can't really do a fast tempo in the forest anyway.
As a "Saucony/Nike" man, I am very excited by this release, so I will probably be picking a pair up, but need my Inov-8 TrailFly Ultra G 300's to "break" first.....which could be a while haha. Once tried running a trail course in my Saucony Speed 2's (not carbon, but plate), and it actually wasn't too bad, but I would say the "spring back" is something I couldn't get the hang of.
Never tried any carbon plated shoes at all. The only plated shoes I've ever tried are my North Face Vectiv Enduris 3's with a TPU plate, and I absolutely love the feel of running in them. I actually think they feel better on the road than any of my road shoes as well, but I won't wear down the lugs by running on the road with them.
Great to have the Running Channel team with us! Glad you both (all!) enjoyed the day and hopefully see you for another film soon. White trail shoes though?! Good job you weren't filming there for our March Salcey 50 event - they wouldn't have stayed white in the car park let alone the trail 🤣🤣🤣
I was at this race and the Lady i went round the first lap with stacked it on the soft track part of the course ( tiny little stump in the shade ) ,she went on to complete a half marathon,im glad both of you kept going and achieved what you went there for x
Well done Jess and James! Amazing that Jess kept going after the fall! Could you do a video about (resuming) running with bruised knees and road rash? I'm dealing with this at the moment after being knocked off my bike, in the middle of marathon training.
This is basically a carbon (heheh - see what I did there?) copy of the Believe In The Run review. Its great for non-technical trail runs and road to trail runs. But for everything else where you need a 'proper' trail shoe - its a non starter. For a specific use case it seems perfect. But only IF you've got a massive shoe closet with a massive shoe rotation that allows you to have shoes for all terrains. Otherwise, it sounds like there are more...appropriate...choices available for a wide variety of terrains.
i'll never be able to wear carbon plated shoes as they never do them in wide versions (probably for some good reason), but i do love videos like this guys! Keep them coming.. well done to these two even after the plot twist, Jess held it together so well, i'd be crying everywhere!
After years of running in fairly minimal shoes I strayed towards more conventional shoes in recent years… and got ankle injuries and aches again. Back to low drop, low stack shoes for me! I’m not convinced that carbon plates etc are going to be good long term as all I’ve read is that they under-stimulate lower leg muscles which in turn will predispose for injury. And I wouldn’t touch a Nike shoe with a barge pole these days for their ethical record…
I am fond of both the Hoka Tecton X and the Saucony Endorphin Edge. They have carbon plates, but mostly I think it is the advanced foam systems that make them so nice. I do ultras, mostly on technical, mountain trails in the US East Coast. I find both shoes very competent and fast. It is a revelation to come out of the woods and onto a road section and have the shoe feel smooth and fast like a marathon race shoe. Note that the Saucony is slightly faster but they provide very little protection when you kick something on the trail. The Hokas offer excellent protection. I am curious about the Ultrafly, but not at full price.
I think carbon plate shoes for trails are just a way to capitalize on the road shoe technology. On the trail, you always change the cadence and the running rhythm to adapt to the terrain. There is no proper cadence to get any benefits from energy recovery from the plate.
You could wear road shoes on that course, seems disingenuous to release a (paid advert) review of a trail shoe based on that. At Least Loyds test was on trails one would expect to wear trail running shoes on. He also had huge wear on the heel after just 46 miles. I'll be staying clear of them, shoe prices are insane at the min but 250eur for these is ridiculous. Not sure what Nike were also thinking with 3mm lugs. I do hope they put Vibram on some of their cheaper trail shoes.
I've loved the Tecton X on the trails, I've loved them but I'm not sure of the impact of the Carbon plates, it's a more subtle set-up but they do pick the pace up well too.
I would like to see Jess complete the Self-Transcendence 3,100 Mile Id like to see James take on the Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon Anna to take on Moab 240 Sarah to tackle the Spartathlon and Andy to take on the Pikes Peak Ascent & Marathon
Ive always got on really well with nike because they normally are slim shoes and i have slim feet. Which is also the reason I can’t get on with adidas as much as i like the look and comfort they are to wide to give me the support i need for running.
I know videos are deceiving but this trails looks smooth enough for Alphafly's, seems most people dont realize how good that shoe is for this type of terrain. So far ive only worn my ultraflys once, pretty undecided so far but they did help my take a heinous uphill kom on techy terrain....so we ll see. ABSOLUTELY SIZE DOWN HALF A SIZE
They were slippy at points and more technical too where the alphaflys wouldn’t have been able to cope with but there were some folk wearing Vaporflys but they also slipped up
I’ve worn inov-8 g270s almost exclusively for trails and ultras pretty much ever since they released them. They have been perfect for all terrains, all weather conditions and for distances up to 100 miles. However I’ve been considering some more cushioned shoes like the Saucony Xodus Ultra or Hoka Speedgoat to switch in and out for the really long races (100+) as I think this might help stop my feet aching 🤷🏻♀️ I’m not forking out £230 😳 for carbon plates and 3mm lugs though!
Nice work. I'm an over pronator. Interested to know if you think those swanky trail shoes would provide enough stability for overpronation or if you've any other recommendations?
As a overpronator I’ve found these high stack narrow shoes really unstable and accentuate the pronation causing a bit of Achilles tendinitis - resolving quickly with a return to stability shoes. Shame as I’ve found my VF, AF and tempo to be really quick! I think AF are a bit more stable (wider in mid foot) which might be better to than VF but in generally these high heels haven’t been stable for me!
While I know nothing of the subject, I've seen more and more professionals recommending that kids use more minimalist shoes that allow their toes to move and have zero drop.
Have you worn a carbon plated trail shoe? What do you think about the new launch?
I don't have a specific trail shoe. I do run through a forest, but I can do that in my stability shoes. I can't really do a fast tempo in the forest anyway.

@@TomsRunningAdventuresI thought the same ... was surprised that Jess was running an Ultra in new shoes when she wasn't confident of the size.

Wow kudos to Jess for continuing to run after that accident. Great job!
Jess is a great addition to the team. Great job 👏
Props to Jess smashing her knee like that and still pushing on to an ultramarathon, and at that pace too 🔥🔥
That was the happiest looking cry/running/reviewing I've ever seen. Impressive resolve.
Would love to see more of Jess, such a positive attitude, incredible athlete and a warrior! 💪

That plot twist got me in the feels 🥹, get some ice on that knee Jess 😅 Well done on carrying on 💪🏼 Great video by the way 👍🏼
Ah I've bitten the dust on a few of my ten milers early on and had to peel myself off the pavement with bloody knees to keep going. Good going Jess 👏
It can be tough to get up and go again isn’t it? Well done for keep going 🙌
That was epic! Props to both runners for this.
Thanks! They both did amazingly didn’t they!
Well done Jess and James! Amazing that Jess kept going after the fall!

Oh no, hope you are ok?! Our top tip would be to take it easy coming back and listen to your body

Top video. Great inspiration and information. I may actually want to try a pair of Nike. They sound pretty good!! Huge well done to you both x

there's the altra vanish carbon
Vanish Carbon defenitely much wider than regular shoes. I like them a lot
The new balance sc elite v3 is in wide also
James mentions that these have a wider toe box, definitely like my Vanish Carbons though

My Ultra shoe is the Altra Mont Blanc. Excellent, especially in the updated version
I’m in love with my vaporfly so I’ll probably grab a pair of these when I wear out my Pegasus trail
That trail looks less technical than most of the roads round here. Could get away with running in road shoes.
Well, you've gotta try the New Balance FuelCell SuperComp Trail now.
Yes we do! 😁
Nice work. I'm an over pronator. Interested to know if you think those swanky trail shoes would provide enough stability for overpronation or if you've any other recommendations?
A carbon plate actually act as a stability element so it might work well for you!

I’m amazed that Jess can run so fast and eat and talk 😳

Can you do the three-legged 5K race?
We can definitely look into it!
i like this suze very much how to mix link
Carbon for the road and my Altras for the trail. Gotta be a fuddy-duddy on this one.
Might pick up a pair if I can find them a bit cheaper than rrp

such a great trail.
Stealth rubber is way stronger and better than vibrum.
I don't know if you'd use those for trail running tho
What's vibrum ??
i Will wait for this shoe when i get it on a discount :D
They do have them pretty regularly so keep your eye out!
@@runningchannel yes for sure 😁
I would’ve liked to see these shoes tested on some more trail-ly terrain. The park is too pristine
Anymore it would’ve been called a hike
Trail Shoes will last longer than Road Shoes that's for sure. Just look at the build quality and materials used.
no sweat at all, how? ;)
Easy breezy lol
