Idk wtf they were thinking with the sequel. If a fucking McDonald’s commercial has better animation than the movie’s sequel then it MUST be bad (it’s more than bad, it’s atrocious)
Another small detail I love: in the trailers, the scene where his parents put him in the escape pod, the voiceovers have a few different lines, the most significant one being the father finishes his sentence, saying "you are destined for greatness" without being cut off by the pod door like he is in the final cut. I like that they cut off his last word, it emphasizes the moral of the movie that Megamind can _choose_ his destiny, he can choose to be the Bad or Good. His fate is in his hands.
that scene with hal was almost worse. In the final version he says "what's wrong with me." and it's played for comedic effect. Here he's like legit enrages and is like "what's wrong with HER." Because it’s NEVER the nice guy’s fault and worst of all he says "Why won't you let me-" which is scary cause it puts it up for interpretation. Wish they kept the old one
Nah i like the one they went with. A lot of imcel-kinda guys may get mad with the girl they're pursuing for not loving them, and that's really obviously icky, but at this point we don't know Hal is going to be a villain, he's supposed to come off as slightly creepy but more just a loser. I think it's fitting that in the final cut he chastises himself and not Roxie because he has the self awareness to realize how dopey it was saying there'd be a bouncy castle at his house and everything. He's not a complete cardboard cutout of a villain right off the bat, he has a small level of self awareness. He's more realistic that way
I kinda wish they kept the “what’s the plan sir?” Part in because at this point we kinda already knew that Megamind didn’t expect the plan to work so we’re able to assume that he didn’t have a plan for what to do if it actually succeeded, and here he’s just confirming it and I like it
Definitely memeable, but I feel like the end product was better since they decided to show, not tell. The "Multiply it by six" line does the same job so much better. Plus the police lining up to fire at him but too terrified to pull the trigger was so cool.

well I mean... they probably were animated first, and then it was decided to not include them in the movie. No one is going to waste time on animating what was already decided to be cut.
It always just depends where they are at when they cut the scenes, Pixar is usually pretty particular with what gets put in and what doesn’t, which is why there’s so much storyboard, whereas Dreamworks cuts a lot of content while they’re still being animated for whatever reason whether it’s cause they don’t see how the scene will fit or they don’t like how it looks or whatever

We also know that Megamind started missing Metro Man ant some point. I think what's happening here is him acting as though he's being chased by Metro Man and caught by the collar (which is why he's pulling at it himself). But it looks a bit morbid (TW!), as though he's choking/hanging himself which is why Minion freaks out. As I said, this is my take on it!
Even though I understand why some of these scenes had to be cut out due to timing and budget reasons to keep the story collected, I feel like some should have stayed because they bring characters more charm and makes the movie seem a bit more alive.

Even though there is a short and upcoming TV series, I feel like theatrical sequels would have ruined this movie. Despicable me had the same problem, that movie was actually decent but the sequels bogged it down and now it'll just be remembered as illuminations main cash cow.
I’m kinda glad they didn’t make Hal immediately awful in the original. Don’t get me wrong, he was creepy, but he was so pathetic that it was hilarious. It also made his turn to villainy more impactful.
I love how so many of the scenes were fully developed, just goes to show how many ideas they had for the movie! I honestly liked the scene where Roxanne woke up in the car, I think that would have worked in the movie!
Ok now I feel dumb, I thought the toothbrush scene was Megamind being sad because he didn't have hair like Metroman's , and he was pretending he had- Now everyone says he was pretending that Metroman was holding him- and obviously that makes more sense- I am SmOrt

Layout animation always looked creepy to me, I get that it's not finished which is why it looks so stilted and badly animated, but the characters always look like robots or something!
