  • Phil Mickelson meets with the media following the Final Round of The Masters.
    ---
    Since 1934, the Masters Tournament has been home to some of golf’s greatest moments. Amidst blooming azaleas, towering pines and flowering dogwoods, the first full week of April ushers in a stage unique to golf and to sport. Over four days and 72 holes, the smallest field in major championship golf competes for a chance to capture the Green Jacket and a place in Masters history.

      @@franklyspeaking8335 Well I hope he goes into the next 3 Majors and has this focus. Phil drove the ball like I have never seen before. His ball speeds on the range before the Tourney started were at 178 and he was hitting 175 today on Sunday as the weather warmed up. Phil has always talked about how using Length in his swing is what he thinks can allow him to stay competitive till he is 60. I think he is correct. Chamblee, who I don't always agree with, has talked about a Long golf swing equals long career and cited Tom Watson as and example of a golfer with a Long golf swing. Watson was in the playoff at the Open in 2009 at 59 years old (had it on 72 hole but his approach shot went to back of green, bogeyed and lost in playoff to Cink). I think Phil can still have a chance at a Major till he is 59 like Watson, n fact more so because he has more length and still has a short game which Watson sort of lost as he got older (could still hit the ball well).

    • @RolandEHay
      @RolandEHay Год назад +1

      It’s a non story because Phil was so many shots behind. There were absolutely no pressure on him during the round. Comebacks from 10 shots behind has only happened 1 time in golfing history. The largest, final-round, come-from-behind victory in PGA Tour history happened in a major championship that is more famous for the other guy's collapse. The major is the 1999 British Open. The "other guy," the leader after the third round, was Jean Van de Velde. In other words Phil couldn’t have expected a similar outcome so there wasn’t any pressure on Phil trying to catch up.

      @@RobbieStacks90 He is 52. Tom Watson lost in a playoff at 59 at the Open in 2009. Phil's ball speeds were hitting 178 on the range before tourney started and consistently 173-175 in the tournament. He can still putt and chip and pitch. Phil has a Long golf swing and generates speed that way, same as Watson, although Watson was not hitting it as for as Phil is in his 50's nor the same ball speed. Watson's short game was a struggle as he got older. But Watson's long golf swing was why he could still hit it long enough to compete in a Major at 59. Phil will be that guy for this generation. He won the PGA at almost 51 and has a 2nd at the Masters at 52 (almost 53). He is not done.

    Sports should be a meritocracy, CBS and the producers should be ashamed for the amount of coverage that Phil Mickelson received this weekend. He finished second at the Masters at the age of 52. Appreciate greatness…

      Yeah Phil is a real classy guy - turns his back on the folks who made him rich and famous($400 million net worth) because he wanted more $. Then joined a lawauit against his former friends and colleagues, you think that's class? You sound like Phil's kind of guy. It was classy signing up for LIV after saying the Saudis have a horrible record on human rights and executing Kashoggi/ gays was horrendous. I also thought the way he ran down his ball on the green at the US Open, and putted it again before it came to rest, was the true mark of a great champion.

    Congrats to Phil

    Wish someone would have asked about playing with Jordan, they both seemed to be elevating each other with great play. Lots of birdies between them. Noticed the guys that struggle sometimes are playing with someone who is struggling as well. They were the most exciting match on Sunday to watch by far.

    Nice to see Phil again with great golf. One of the issues I don't like is you don't see much of the Liv tour and the players you were seeing every week. Hopefully he continues to do well on LIV and can win a major or two in the future!!!

    As a fellow person who is pretty close to his age (I'm 54) this really shows that if you can remain healthy and keep your swing speed up age really doesn't matter too much in golf. That's what makes golf so great. Obviously no 52 year old is going to go play in the NBA or NFL!! LOL

    I like Phil. He speaks plainly. I liked the way he made sure the interview did not turn into a LIV vs PGA showdown at a Major.
