props to that dude for not giving up or getting angry, HOWEVER this place was dead, 0 people around, imagine falling every time but there are lots of people behind you who are getting impatient.
+thijs van de pol I have done this on a snowboard and its not very difficult. First few tries you fall off, but not just topple over like him lol... no body control whatsoever here :)
It is difficult when you're a beginner. The edge of the board can catch really easily and then throw you off...they can really yank you at start..I got catapulted and hit my head off the ice on a button lift in Scotland many years ago. Instinct is to sit down..but you have to stand upright...it's just do much going on when you are still learning how to actually balance on a board. Plus it's embarrassing. I gave up and walked up the hill!! Used chairlift since and much easier. Gave up on the tows.
It is actually easy if there aren't too many holes on the road of the bar. It takes some time to get used to it because It is not EASY. At my first two tries I fell because there were a lot of people using the T-Bar, some are heavy some are not but they push their board too hard on the ground so they leave some holes on the road. It makes it so hard to handle with the board. So I got someone to help me and I got used to it.
First time I tried snowboarding (as a lifelong skateboarder) I was dumbfounded by how easy and natural the whole thing felt, until I tried my first drag lift.... they just aren't designed for snowboards, you can do it with practice but there's a learning curve for sure.
It's because the back foot is open. Just keep the bacl foot bindings closed and you will get up the hill with no problems. No reason to open the back binding.
@@LateDude96 you need to open the back binding to push yourself forward, that’s how you move on flat ground, it’s also WAY faster than walking and takes less time to out the board back on, basically it’s just a pure advantage and you don’t know what your talking about, these lifts are also very easy to use, yes it is a learning curve but the hardest part is staying balanced on it, the beginning is the easy part, it’s easy for your board to twist or something happen once your going and you hit an edge
Honestly, my first time snowboarding I have no problem going on the lift, that was the easy part, I mostly struggled carving and going fast cause I would lose my balance and catch an edge, now I have no problem and have been down some of the biggest/steepest mountain ski hill resorts in Canada, lots of in the trees riding too which is a lot more fun (coming from a snowmobiler who rides in the mountains)
@@lakzerk2344 done it a few times tbf, but only on ski’s. I got 2 good legs and use them as nature intended, not strap them together to form 1 central point. If that was any good then we would have evolved that way, that’s how evolution works.
You've not seen me at my very first day on skis. My Ski slipped away and I almost lost control, the t-bar slipped away and I luckily catched it, so the rest of the lift I hang there .. :D
Gotta give him credit for determination. It looked like he hadn't done any type of board sport before so def props for trying something new. "Somebody that tells you that they've never failed is either a liar, or has never had the courage to try something new". Dude needs to practice his skating and one foot riding before attempting T-bars & Button lifts.
Because when it yanks, you fall forward but at the same time, you dont want to let it go so instinctly, your body feels like its safe to crouch and hold it.
It's hard the ENTIRE time on a snowboard. Even when you get half way up you can loose your balance and cut an edge and go down. Takes a fair bit of experience and concentration on a snowboard.
it seems like this type of lift is really hard to use for a beginner snowboarders. Especially if you have never used it before. This guy did pretty good i think only took 3 attempts.
This was so me on my first try I got halfway up the mountain and it started to drag me to the side and you know what happens if you panic and don't let it pull you back in.. Owch
Not very helpful friend... I struggled on the first day as well, luckily very helpful staffs at Glenshee helped me through, that gentleman taught me the right technique and ran with me a little bit to keep me from falling due to the jerky start, after 3 to 4 runs I could do it myself
Haaaa!! I love a good chairlift/t-bar fail. Biggest error he kept making was not having his board straight, back foot already balanced on the board and not letting the t-bar pull him... best part was the backpack getting caught on the bar!!!
@@olluska I've been to quite a few resorts in Finland, even had a season pass to Isosyöte. But I must say this specific one in Isosyöte that they were attempting in the video is the fastest one I've seen
I have no idea why people need to free their behind leg when they use T these kind of lifts. I feel much more in control with both bindings on. All you have to do is sit straight and put pressure on the front foot.
that's the way I do it, the problem is that it's hard to get stappt in fast, I have damaged my bindings many times stomping on them, recently I have bought fastech bindings so it will be a lot easier now
Once the t-bar dragged me into one of the poles and somehow got stuck on the ladder that goes up the back to service it. It then front flipped me onto my head and face. Got a pretty bad concussion from that one

Worked a poma disc lift for a season i hated it but man was it hilarious 😂 🤣 😆 😭. The one I operated the bars stacked up and there was a lever to launch people up the hill (detached surface lift) 700fpm. I'd tell everyone stay standing, ski/ride up hill and so many would just sit on the ground haha. "LET GO" nope they'd rather be dragged to the top
I'm skiing idk if its harder but a lot of people fall on t bar with ski, i actually succeed in my first try and i was like 10 so the tip is ofcourse not sitting and only letting it push you also not leaning back to much holding your skii paralel to each other
I've been snowboarding for over 20 years and haven't used a T bar or button for at least ten of those. Just go to a resort where you can get around without using them. They are not for snowboarders. St Anton, Courchevel, Meribel, Tignes, Flaine, Val, Verbier, Chamonix, all negotiated happily without going near one. Or learn to ski...
I hate t-bars/ button lift!!! I did it once with ski & snowboard & promised myself never ever to use a t-bar/button lift again. I hate those things. Maybe this year I try again. But normally I look out for a route without t-bars/button lifts.
1. They should have the speed of them slower like others 2. Your suppost to put the button lift between your legs 3. On the button lift, most have a lever which you do (Above number) then they would pull the lever to make it move.
Because after your fist couple of fails your legs turn to rubber as you're embarrassed, and really anxious! For some people (inc. myself) there's a very natural urge to sit on the bar or button. Hardly inexplicable considering you ride zip lines and rope swings in a similar way. Once you get over the fact it needs to pull you horizontally, rather than just get over gravity it IS easy.
Not gonna help, it's just going to make it more difficult to get out of the way or get back up again when he does fall. The issue here was a complete lack of balance, not whether his feet had grip. I've taught several people how to snowboard over the years (as a friend, not as an instructor). Without fail, there's always that guy that wants to go too fast and do hit the 'real' slopes when they really just need to practice the basics some more.
